Actually, I think the focus of contempt should now be on the actions, not the politics. I’m not sure how helpful it is to label it ‘far right’ even if that’s what it is?

Otherwise people who feel on the right of politics feel tarred by the same brush and it becomes about politics rather than what it is - ignorant, violent men (usually).

Dunno.

I don't know if this is true, but I hope so;

Liam Cello
@mrliamcello
NEW: Premier League clubs liaising with local authorities to levy “up to 5 year bans” on identified ticket holders engaging in social disorder this week. Both Everton and Liverpool “engaging at a high level” with Merseyside Police, and Newcastle Utd committing too. 1/2.
All three clubs have been in touch with respective legal teams this weekend and keen to send a message of support to their communities in prohibiting violent / abusive offenders into their grounds. Newcastle “very keen to send message”. A bold move. More to follow. Liam 2/2.

I suspect they are going to find quite a few of them are already banned.

I see this as the natural consequence of the increasingly fascist tone of some right wing politicians and press. The headlines that bao copied being a case in point. It is so depressing.

Totally agree with this - and in an attempt to halt the vote snatch from Reform the Tories swung further right and doubled down on Rwanda, 'illegal' people on small boats etc etc in the run up to the election - this is what happens when you make out the problems with a nation should be firmly placed at the door of disenfranchised people and not at the door of the government

And that's just the DM, sometimes worse in Express.

So depressing.

@DuncinToffee don’t rise, lovey.

@Rainbowsponge this isn’t the thread for you. We’re not what you want. We see you.

I can’t make you stop posting, but I strongly urge my friends to just not engage.

There’s no way we can hide this thread is there?

I am pretty sure your average Tory voter will be pretty clear Starmer is not doing that.

I think it is correct to call it for what it is. Pussyfooting around lets Farage and Tice off the hook. They are backed into a corner now. They either unequivocally condemn what is going on or they will be forever associated with it. I bet they will lose some of their own voters if they don't. Reform voters might not like immigrants much, but I doubt many want to to see them murdered.

I am amazed since the election just how right wing the express, telegraph and mail have become.

The Mail appears to be Reform propaganda and the Telegraph is running increasingly ridiculous headlines suggesting Starmer is the antichrist. I'm not sure how anyone is taking them seriously.

Obviously the express has always been a bit ridiculous but the other two have lost any shreds of credibility.

ilovesooty · 04/08/2024 17:07

Cleverly and Tugendhat have made statements condemning the riots.

bombastix · 04/08/2024 17:07

The Reform vote has actually dropped since the election. Quite what it looks like after this mess I have no idea. My guess is buyers remorse for some.

Has the nation remembered that Farage was quite happy to call in the army and see a few rioters shot in 2011 ?

https://www.thelondoneconomic.com/news/what-nigel-farage-said-rioters-2011-vs-2024-mark-duggan-far-right-380349/

Reforms contract was basically to militarise the police and make them exempt from civil rights law, so I'm pretty sure he'd still take the same approach, apart from when he deems rioters to have "reasonable concerns" 🙄

RafaistheKingofClay · 04/08/2024 17:09

Farage has gone unusually quiet on Twitter for the last day.

Home Office has announced emergency funding for protecting mosques. £28.4 million to be made available.

bombastix · 04/08/2024 17:09

“Britain is broken. Some of our supporters think not enough yet”

ilovesooty · 04/08/2024 17:09

Perhaps Badenoch is mulling 🙄

In case you had doubts as to the motives; here we are with some community outreach

That's my city.Sad

The Combat 18 thugs were out in force yesterday. Backed by thugs who'd travelled a 100 miles from another country, bearing a flag they hate. The fucking irony!Hmm

Luckily it's pissing down with rain here, so it's quiet today.

CassieMaddox · 04/08/2024 17:10

Starmer - He promised that the "violent mob do not represent our country" and said: "If you target people because of the colour of their skin or faith, that is far-right and I’m prepared to say so."

He is on the horns of a dilemma right now, I reckon. I hope it really hurts.

Certainly isn't the way to persuade the centre right conservative voters that one needs in the UK to vote for you in order to form a government. If Farage ever had aspirations he has blown them.

Well it’s a bit more serious that making rude remarks about the EU. Soft stuff that is. This is grown up, life and limb stuff
