Looking at it live on sky news I don’t think they’ve got into the hotel, thank god. The police are in a stand off with them.

Well it’s one thing to ruck with the police. But presumably anyone inside the hotel will not be padded up or similarly protected.

Dunno about this Starmer announcement. I know actually that they can take much harder measures but… and it’s a rather big issue, it’s not very palatable to take them. That is where the State uses more than ordinary police power to manage riots. I don’t want to see it, because these rioters will pasted. And even if they are racists, we still all have to live together afterwards. If they are beaten then eventually it will escalate in the future.

Are they not allowed to? Are we in a totalitarian regime?

Fuck off!

And I don't care if I get deleted for that

I won’t report you so you probably won’t. But seriously, why is somebody so surprised people would comment on a prime minister’s speech?

I have a few of my own ideas about what should be done with these rioters.

Don't be ridiculous. However, as I've already said, I really have little interest in what you have to say.

KS has called it out for what it is "far right thuggery".

And fuelled by the media, Farage, Tice, Anderson and the likes of Wotton, Fox et al.

Don't you think that right now, with the possibility of the fucking far right actually murdering people, the UK population, regardless of their political allegiances, should stand with the government right now?

There will be posters taking issue with Yvette Cooper's statement no doubt, and with Keir Starmer's speech now.

Edited

Yep already a thread about Yvette Cooper's statement

Did you stand with the Tory government when they rightly supported Ukraine? You can agree with them on a singular topic without having to fawn over and ‘stand with’ them.

I do not want to think what happens if it is about attacking and getting inside hotels. Someone could be killed. Riots are often about looting or stealing or rucking with police. But the hotel thing is a whole different order because the prospect of racial violence could mean serious injury or death.

I've just read a news report they blocked the exits with bins and tried to set the hotel alight.

This is getting out of hand now (more so than just out of hand iyswim?)

They are actually trying to burn hotels they suspect are housing migrants.

ghostyslovesheets · 04/08/2024 16:51

On the topic of Eurofoods I found a little corner shop today that sells my favourite Eurocrisps!

Arson with intent to endanger life carries a maximum term of life imprisonment.

That should take a few of them off the streets.

I don't know if this is true, but I hope so;

Liam Cello
@mrliamcello
NEW: Premier League clubs liaising with local authorities to levy “up to 5 year bans” on identified ticket holders engaging in social disorder this week. Both Everton and Liverpool “engaging at a high level” with Merseyside Police, and Newcastle Utd committing too. 1/2.
All three clubs have been in touch with respective legal teams this weekend and keen to send a message of support to their communities in prohibiting violent / abusive offenders into their grounds. Newcastle “very keen to send message”. A bold move. More to follow. Liam 2/2.

YES! I love them so much

I need to remind myself that I won't engage with bad faith posters Wink

I'm no fan of Starmer (as most of you here know Wink) but I think he's being suitably assertive and statesmanlike on this. It's right call out far right thuggery. I saw someone trying to say it's Labour's "fault" because they blocked Rwandan legislation (when the Conservatives had a working majority Confused) which is really grasping at straws Angry

I feel so, so sorry for the friends and family of the three girls that were murdered in Southport Sad. Their tragedy has been hijacked by thugs. These riots are not helping them Sad Leave them to grieve in peace.

Leniriefenstahl · 04/08/2024 16:54

Have the tories said much about the riots or are they keeping their tinder dry (not sure that’s the right expression). I guess they encouraged the whole situation with their inflammatory comments but now they’re trying to appear ‘reasonable’….
