Just that really!

Whether that be staying in the UK or travelling abroad.

In the last year I’ve been on holiday 7 times (3 abroad, 4 domestic).

Lovelynames123 · 01/08/2024 11:09

I try for 3-4 abroad and a few uk weekends away, I try to take the kids away every school holiday, this last school year we only missed going in the Christmas hols.

I only take time off work when I'm going away, work for myself and prioritise holidays

afrikat · 01/08/2024 11:09

We have one 'big holiday' a year (last few years italy, year before that Orlando) then do a few trips where we try to stay with friends and family. My husband and I usually have 1-2 weekends away each year just the two of us, usually Cotswolds and London. One weekend camping locally in May with a big group.

MissAmbrosia · 01/08/2024 11:32

When dd was little we used to do one big holiday in the summer - normally 3 weeks - and then a couple of CP type trips closer to home at half terms. Now she's at Uni and prefers to go away with friends, DH and I have 2 x 10 /14 day trips and occasional long weekends away. I normally go on city breaks twice a year with my friends. I do prioritise travel over other things and wish I had more opportunity - really busy job. DH has retired this year and my employer will now let us work outside the country for short periods, so want to plan a "long" stay somewhere next year, where I will have to work some of the time but hopefully in warmer surroundings.

DoublePeonies · 01/08/2024 11:34

Once?!
But, I don't class going to stay with the inlaws a holiday. We probably go to see the grandparents 4 times a year, so if others are going to include that, I guess one big holiday (uk or abroad) and 5 weekends staying at the grandparents house.

Positivenancy · 01/08/2024 11:35

This year I have had a weekend in Paris, a week in Gran Canaria and I’m going a week in Italy in sept.

Positivenancy · 01/08/2024 11:35

oh and a weekend in Edinburgh. 😅

Beezknees · 01/08/2024 11:36

Once or twice abroad, a few times in the UK

PrincessHoneysuckle · 01/08/2024 11:38

Once or twice abroad until this year now we're doing one big holiday abroad and 5 or 6 weekend breaks

stayathomer · 01/08/2024 11:40

We’d treat eg a night away camping as a holiday, or a night at my sister’s so about four times or five times a year Have only started going on foreign holidays since covid

Frazzled2108 · 01/08/2024 11:41

Once. A weekend in Norfolk.

Colinswheels · 01/08/2024 11:45

We do one main holiday which will be 7 nights, usually abroad, and 3 or 4 UK mini breaks throughout the year.

AmberMilo · 01/08/2024 11:47

This year one big foreign holiday plus two week long UK holidays. Other years I've done a couple of extra weekends away but not this year......

startstopengine · 01/08/2024 11:48

This year we will have been skiing, 10 days sunny break in August and I'm away again in September to Italy.

We maybe have one UK weekend away as we have animals.

I'd say average would be overseas 2-3 times a year.

MermaidEyes · 01/08/2024 11:50

In the last year I've been abroad 3 times and done 4 UK short breaks. Might be another before the end of the year. But then kids are young adults now, so we have more time/money to travel, and they don't necessarily have to come with us.

TokyoSushi · 01/08/2024 11:51

Twice, skiing and summer abroad. We don't really go on any UK breaks or weekends in between, because the skiing & summer are so £££ and we're nowhere near as fancy as it sounds!

BrigadierEtienneGerard · 01/08/2024 11:54

We gave up "holidays" (i.e. a week or two away) years ago. We now go for short breaks of one or two nights to see a specific place, exhibition or concert.

Had 4 of those so far in 2024.

Muffin101 · 01/08/2024 11:58

Three or four times in recent years. One short break in January (uk), a break in the October half term with the in laws (pil, bils, sils and all the nieces and nephews, also uk) and a week away in December to do Longleat Festival of Lights, Father Christmas train etc. Every couple of years we try to go away in January/February for a bit of a winter sun break abroad.
Well do various single nights away throughout the year too as and when depending on specific events shows etc.
We don’t do a big summer holiday as DHs job doesn’t allow for the time off then. As DS gets a little older tho, I think I’ll start going on my own, France etc, nothing spectacular but nice all the same.

MonsteraMama · 01/08/2024 12:01

2-3 "big" holidays of a week or more, sometimes abroad sometimes in the UK.

Lots of smaller breaks and long weekends scattered through the year, not sure if they'd count as holidays? We try to get out and about and away as much as we can, lots of camping and very low budget trips, the UK is beautiful and worth exploring!

FuzzyPuffling · 01/08/2024 19:24

I've not had a holiday ( UK or otherwise) for 11 years. It makes me sad to feel so earthbound.

ghostbusters · 01/08/2024 19:33

We haven't been on a plane since 2019 and we only went to London.
We haven't been out of Scotland since then either...
This year we have been away for 4 nights over Easter, a couple of hours from home. And we're going away over the summer for a week, again, a few hours drive but in a different direction. We'll probably visit my folks in October who are not too far from our summer holiday destination.

How about you, @Udford ?

Motheranddaughter · 01/08/2024 19:34

6 so far this year
3 planned to come

Udford · 01/08/2024 23:32

@ghostbusters We have one, two week break each year

Bubblegum922 · 01/08/2024 23:42

10 times last year in 12 countries, some in Europe and 4 long haul. This year so far, 3 long haul to the US, south America and the Caribbean and 5 shortish weekend breaks in Europe. Will probably go to Asia later this year though undecided where yet as still weighing up the options.
All personal holidays , none related to work travel which is what my neighbour used to assume.

Udford · 01/08/2024 23:46

@FuzzyPuffling That’s such a shame I’m so sorry you feel that way.
