I am a third year student midwife in my last week of placement. To qualify I need to deliver 40 babies. With 3 shifts left I started this night shift needing 3 deliveries. I’ve only gone and got a hat trick and delivered my 40th baby!

I am absolutely over the moon and need to shout about it to anyone who will listen until a more civilised hour!

What a fabulous and privileged job I have ❤️

Congratulations! I’ll remember my midwives for the rest of my life. Fabulous professionals. Hope you can celebrate this week 🎉

NotSorry · 31/07/2024 08:34

Great news OP - well done you. I can still remember the midwife who delivered my 4th baby. She was newly qualified and I remember her because she said it was her first standing up delivery and the biggest baby yet (10.5 pounds!). But mostly I remember how she was on my side the whole way through and advocated for me when I was struggling. 21 years on and that was my most positive birth experience out of all 4 babies.

Congratulations!

Make sure you send your regional chief midwife the pic and story, a hat trick qualification is amazing! What a night!

Well done OP!

my third baby was the last baby to be delivered by a midwife who was just retiring. She was assisted by a student midwife who was delivering her 30th.

Congrats to you and your career!

Ireallycantthinkofagoodone · 31/07/2024 08:37

Many many congratulations - I too remember my midwives, and I’m over 70!! The bond that can be established, even in a relatively short labour, is so incredibly important to the birth experience.
Good luck in your fabulous career 💐

Justgorgeous · 31/07/2024 08:37

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 31/07/2024 08:45

Congratulations!!

It was a student midwife who finally took me seriously that DS was breech and back to back (7 hours into labour, and after I'd been voicing my suspicions for weeks).

I wish you a long and happy career.

ilovesushi · 31/07/2024 08:52

So lovely to read a happy post! We are in such need of enthusiastic, dedicated midwives. Hope you go on to deliver lots more babies and to inspire others to join you in the profession.

You never forget your midwife - I never forget Anita in cambridge who sat with me all through the night and then the male midwife in Cumbria who sat by me very unintrusively and let me grab his hand and practically pull it off his arm!

That is very true. I will never forget the wonderful Bernie (Bernadette) who delivered my son at West Middlesex hospital 23 years ago!
Lovely news, OP, congratulations.

Oxforddictionary12 · 31/07/2024 09:21

Congratulations 🎊 You do such a great job- I remember the midwives when I had my son and they were the kindest people ever. I was so grateful to them.

ForestForever · 31/07/2024 09:22

Congratulations OP! 🥂 What wonderful news to read. Good luck going forward in your career. I had an amazing midwife with a very long and traumatic labour with my DS. He was born 14 years ago yesterday. I was only 16 and she helped me through the toughest thing I’ve ever had to do. She was kind, patient and encouraged me to have the strength that I didn’t even know I had. I have thought about her often over the years and will never forget her. You will be a part of people’s most special days and they will also remember you with the same fondness.

hookiewookie29 · 31/07/2024 09:24

That's fabulous, congratulations!
When I was in labour with my daughter 21 years ago, the student midwife told me I was her 40th! I was really chuffed!
Unfortunately, not all of the placenta came away so I ended up in theatre.
The student told me that I wouldn't count as her 40th because of that. I was gutted and kept apologising even though I couldn't help it!

Jack80 · 01/08/2024 17:51

Congratulations 🎊

Ilovecleaning · 01/08/2024 18:17

Congratulations! And anyone who is so proud of themselves and wants to shout it from the rooftops will be a great midwife. Very best wishes for the future 🌺🌺🌺

Allthehorsesintheworld · 01/08/2024 18:26

Congratulations. May you go on to deliver many, many more.

saffy2 · 01/08/2024 18:31

My eldest was someone’s 40th baby delivered 14 years ago and I still remember how excited and emotional she was! I think of her often actually, I’ve had two other babies since then and haven’t come across her again even though we are in the same trust still.
