I am a third year student midwife in my last week of placement. To qualify I need to deliver 40 babies. With 3 shifts left I started this night shift needing 3 deliveries. I’ve only gone and got a hat trick and delivered my 40th baby!

I am absolutely over the moon and need to shout about it to anyone who will listen until a more civilised hour!

What a fabulous and privileged job I have ❤️

Oh that’s wonderful @UpUpUpU All that life that you help !

tornbride1 · 31/07/2024 07:33

I remember my first and my 40th so well. Both fab families who were so excited that their babies were special 'numbers' for me. They both asked for pics of me with the baby which i have copies of. Gorgeous memories to remember forever.

BumpyaDaisyevna · 31/07/2024 07:39

Congrats! Three out of three!

I am curious about the babies - boys? Girls? Ok births?

reluctantbrit · 31/07/2024 07:39

Congratulations. DD was delivered by a student midwife, she was so lovely, confident and caring.

Best wishes for the future.

Scirocco · 31/07/2024 07:39

Whoo! Congratulations!

BumpyaDaisyevna · 31/07/2024 07:41

You never forget your midwife - I never forget Anita in cambridge who sat with me all through the night and then the male midwife in Cumbria who sat by me very unintrusively and let me grab his hand and practically pull it off his arm!

Notthisone · 31/07/2024 07:41

Congratulations.
I'm so glad a final placement student midwife came along to my home birth with my midwife. DS had been delivered within 45 mins of them arriving so there wouldn't have been time to get a second one there.

Cappugcino · 31/07/2024 07:44

Congratulations OP, such an amazing achievement!

OP- are you in Somerset as I think you just delivered my first nephew!!!

TerfTalking · 31/07/2024 07:49

Congratulations! I know how hard it is to get your experience on placement as DD was an almost qualified student radiographer in 2018 and the panic in the students if the right image opportunity didn’t present itself for them to get signed off was very real.

You’re done now, well done. I won’t say that the real hard work starts now!

🍾

Congratulations. Fantastic achievement.

When I had my third baby 20 years after my first. The midwife looked at my notes and said that my first baby had been her first after qualifying. I did remember her too.

Roselilly36 · 31/07/2024 08:07

Wonderful, really pleased for you. I agree with PP, you never forget a great midwife.

DancingNotDrowning · 31/07/2024 08:07

How fabulous - congratulations

My 4th DC was a student midwife’s first delivery. When the lead MW told her I wasn’t going to deliver before end of her shift she seemed really disappointed so when things ramped up and DC4 was born she was delighted.

im slightly horrified that your future was in the lap of the gods though, what happens if you don’t deliver 40 babies? Is that it?!

Dweetfidilove · 31/07/2024 08:14

Congratulations to you 👏🏾

Strawberriesandpimms · 31/07/2024 08:15

Congratulations! I have fond memories of my fab south african midwife of 25 years ago. A great midwife makes such a difference.

winewolfhowls · 31/07/2024 08:23

Congratulations 👏 this is so lovely to hear

MillshakePickle · 31/07/2024 08:32

Huge, huge congratulations! Genuinely so happy for you.

Remembering the birth of my second baby who also a 40th baby and the midwife's first precipitous birth. She had a hell of a ride.

That midwife and the leading midwife made a horribly painful experience (no time for drugs) exceptionally beautiful and flawless. From being admitted to leaving the maternity ward was just over 5 hours. They were fabulous.

I'll be forever grateful and thankful to have had the experience with both births of having midwives who were passionate and caring.

For my second baby, I had training sonographers, midwives, nurses and a paramedic who was doing ward shifts. They were all amazing and such an experience to know that what they did for me and my dc will have helped get to where they want to be.

bookmarket · 31/07/2024 08:32

Congratulations. What a lovely post. 😊

Recycledblonde · 31/07/2024 08:32

My first baby was delivered by a student midwife as her 40th qualifying birth. 33 years ago. She told me she wasn't going to go until I'd delivered. I still remember her name and what she looked like. All three of my babies have been delivered by student midwifes who have all been brilliant.
Congratulations.
