Yarn, north east England. I only call it wool if it actually is mostly wool.

TeabySea · 30/07/2024 20:50

Wool if it's actual wool or acrylic, but yarn if it's something like cotton or recycled sari strips.
Londoner.

Wool, when I lived in North Wales as a child.
Yarn now, Home Counties.

Mothlike · 30/07/2024 20:53

It depends. If it’s cotton then cotton, if it’s acrylic it’s yarn, if it’s wool it’s wool unless it’s merino or alpaca. You get the idea! I’m in SE England.

DurtBurd · 30/07/2024 20:54

Wool, Dublin. I hate the term yarn.

Sorry I mean wool, SW

evtheria · 30/07/2024 20:54

I'd call it yarn if it's that plasticky stuff, wool if it's actually wool. I don't knit but often buy some for a niece.

NW Eng.

Ponkpinkpink15 · 30/07/2024 20:58

I used to call it wool, but years of (ironically) WoollyHugs I've been trained to call it yarn. But if I'm using something like cashmere/Marino I'll call it that.
