Wool. North East England. Every village used to have a wool shop!

The only context I would use ‘yarn’ in would be, e.g. by she spins a good yarn. Meaning she tells a longwinded story.

Yarn as a catch all name. But usually I use the term for whatever I'm actually using.
Acrylic Yarn. Cotton. Cotton blend. Wool. Sock yarn. Etc

Edited to say I'm in Home counties.

And as a child i would have said wool. Then I realised that wool is a specific type of yarn.

Yarn, Australia. I grew up calling it wool but since I started knitting a decade ago and became familiar with the many fibres, of which wool is definitely not my favourite, yarn it is. (Typed while wearing my latest jumper, which is acrylic and bamboo and just what I need this very cold winter.)

Yarn. If its 100% wool then its woollen yarn. If its man made then its most likely acrylic yarn.
I used to call it wool but then..........I realised the obvious - unless its from a sheep, its not wool!

Snap.
Use lots of cottons and other fibres, so it's yarn unless it's real wool.
South west, originally south east coast, where we used to knit lots of fisherman's rib jumpers with my Nan 😁🐏

Yarn... I don't think it a regional thing, more a knitters/crafter's professional term. Wool is only wool if it's from a sheep!
