First lovely Sunday in ages... and the jet washers are out in force!

Beautiful day out, bees buzzing birds singing and thought I'd read my book in the garden.
Five minutes later 3 neighbours decide to bloody jet wash their drives and cars. Arghhhh!!! I hate that noise.

Why can't all noisy power tools be banned on a Sunday like they are in Germany?

My neighbour decided to mow their lawn at 7am and wash their car with one of those things not long after.

Belladone · 28/07/2024 14:12

I agree, it’s nice and peaceful here today, but I’ve had a week of the neighbours builders laying a patio and building a summerhouse. The builders are pleasant enough and can’t help the power tools, but the radio really really 😡

Greytulips · 28/07/2024 14:13

Totally agree. Neigbour trimming his hedge at 7am this morning.

Oh that noise is horrible when they're cutting the stone. My neighbours did this last summer. It took bloody ages and they worked weekends too.

That's totally not on!
I would have had to pop my head out the window and glare 🤬

Incessant power tool noise here - don't know what they are doing but neighbours down the street have scaffolding up and workmen on a sodding Sunday!!!

I didn't think they were allowed on a Sunday? If it's an extension or something they usually state no work on a Sunday in the planning criteria.

Better the jet washers than the bonfire lighters, oh and the crap music playing. I am sorry Romania, but your music is rubbish!

Because many people work on most other days, and therefore Sunday is the one day people get to crack on with these jobs. I mean, it's not rocket science to be able to grasp that, surely ?

But surely people work in Germany too?Confused

Droolylabradors · 28/07/2024 14:45

I'm lying still in a dark room getting over surgery and all I have is motorbikes zooming through our picturesque village. Fuckers! I sympathise with your jet washers.

Twistybranch · 28/07/2024 14:50

Nothing compares to a petrol leaf blower. Many of our neighbours use a Gardner who uses it for general garden tidy ups. Not to move large debris etc. So imagine 3/4 times a week for hours in end!!! Only stops in the winter.

They are louder than a motorbike seemingly

Oh I know. My neighbour hired a weekly gardener who used an industrial petrol leaf blower (for a teeny patch of garden).
Horrible horrible noise.

As someone else said, they work in Germany too!
There's nothing stopping you from using manual tools, saws, normal hoses etc.
It's really selfish I think.

I agree @BurntBroccoli, I used to live in Germany and Sundays were wonderfully peaceful.

I've never lived in Germany, so can't comment, but this bit There's nothing stopping you from using manual tools, saws, normal hoses etc. is funny Grin

Just for info, I don't have a jet washer, I don't have many power tools, but I understand completely why one would use a more powerful tool to get a job done well, and more quickly.

@NewName24

Why is it funny?
One of my neighbours was having a shed built and they swapped to manual tools on the Sunday.
Kept the quieter jobs for that day.

Yep - just used an electric hedge cutter - forgive me.😎

frozendaisy · 28/07/2024 17:41

People make noise

The only way you get peace is a remote detached not near a road in land you own.

Sheknowsaboutme · 28/07/2024 17:41

Im rural so used to any machine going when dry and sunny.

now its a tractor doing a 1st cut. Next door. Im happy to sit watching and im having a glass of wine. Im not bothered

Yep.
We've just moved into the middle of nowhere for that reason.

Then again, we've swapped the noise for farm machinery instead.

To be truly quiet you need to own the surrounding land.

It’s no more selfish than expecting the world to revolve around you wanting a lie in or silence. If you choose to live next door to other people then I’m afraid you have to accept a certain level of noise. I think it’s selfish to expect people to make their lives harder by using manual tools just because you don’t like hearing electric ones.

S0livagant · 28/07/2024 18:11

It might be a lovely day on a Saturday and rainy on the Sunday then Sunday rules wouldn't help.

I don't know but they're doing it anyway!

Chill out peeps, just having a moan!
