If you could compete in an Olympic sport…

What would you like to do?

i ride horses, so for me it would be equestrian (probably cross country, as in reality I’m not very brave and kinda hate cross country but have always wanted to fly round a huge course with confidence instead of my usual ‘don’t fall! Don’t fall’ don’t spook! Oh god we’re dead’ monologue).

or maybe something more unusual, like skateboarding…..? It looks like fun but is probably not much fun at that level!!

Equestrian or gymnastics!

squashyhat · 27/07/2024 11:59

Downhill snowboarding. It looks mad and skillful at the same time. (I can't even ski). Plus watching it back with the bonkers commentary would be great.

StaySpicy · 27/07/2024 13:06

Archery. I do medieval archery so I think those fancy bows they use would make it so much easier!

Plus, no running!

PuttingDownRoots · 27/07/2024 13:09

I quite canoeing.

Currently watching DDs climbing lesson... the experienced climbers are great to watch.

MrsAvocet · 27/07/2024 13:12

Road Cycling for me or maybe sailing. Mot that I am any good at either but I enjoy both. Diving would probably be my worst nightmare as I am scared of heights and despite being able to sail I'm not a great swimmer!

SwedishEdith · 27/07/2024 13:13

Shooting. I reckon that's quite doable as don't need to be actively sporty (can sit down).

Cantfindthewordsddstruggling · 27/07/2024 13:14

Swimming. Doubt I would have ever made the Olympics but have always regretted giving up competitive swimming when I did.

Butternutsqoosh · 27/07/2024 13:14

Swimming or triathlon for me please!

MonsteraMama · 27/07/2024 13:15

Equestrian for me too, I miss the days where I used to be fearless enough to zoom round the course at breakneck speed. Now I just watch my daughter do it (yes I often cover my eyes)

cupcaske123 · 27/07/2024 13:15

BMX looks like great fun.

feelingalittlehorse · 27/07/2024 13:17

Does it have to be a recognised sport? I’d be top notch at competitive eating, if that was a thing. Gold medals all round for me 🥇

MagpiePi · 27/07/2024 13:17

Surfing.
I think I'd cope with having to live in Hawaii or California to be able to train properly.

Nadja0fAntipaxos · 27/07/2024 13:22

Is this fantasy “you are good enough to do it” or “you just fancy having a go”?

I would love to be a sprinter if it’s the former. Just pure human endeavour.

I reckon kayaking for the latter.

wizzbitt · 27/07/2024 13:46

I'm brilliant at rounders. Shame that's not included. I could have been a contender ✌🏿

iloveeverykindofcat · 27/07/2024 13:53

I used to swim at county level when I was a kid/teenager so it would have to be that. I'm useless at anything with a ball. I got a D in PE while I was swimming at county level outside school because I'm shit at ball games.😂

leeverarch · 27/07/2024 14:02

I did do a bit of cross-country in my younger days, but dressage is damned hard, so I wouldn't choose 3-day eventing. Discus possibly - I seemed to be able to throw it quite a long way when we did it at school, and I've always fancied having a go at archery.

We're sitting here having lunch so I asked DH and he says the 10,000 metres.

MagpiePi · 27/07/2024 14:23

I wouldn't mind a go a pole vaulting, it must be amazing to be up so high. Or javelin. I feel it's quite primal, chucking a spear.

There was an online quiz when the London Olympics were on where you put your height and weight in and it told you which olympic athlete you were physically most closely matched with. I think I matched up with a discus thrower.

DeclansAFeckingDream · 27/07/2024 14:26

Badminton. Played since I was about 10 (57 now).

Littlebitpsycho · 27/07/2024 14:27

I'd love to be an Olympic gymnast - it's astounding to me how they can do the movements they do! Sadly I'm probably twice the weight of the average gymnast 🤣🤣

Otherwise equestrian as I've ridden most of my life - wouldn't mind riding Laura Collett's horse, since she's just beaten the Olympic record on him ❤️

Greentrilby · 27/07/2024 14:28

I’d have a go at badminton and swimming.
Im up for petitioning with @wizzbitt for rounders to be an Olympic sport too. I love a good game of rounders.

BestIsWest · 27/07/2024 14:28

Heptathlon. It’s been my fantasy since I was 9 years old and watched Dame Mary Peters at Munich (Pentathlon back then). I could just about manage the throwing these days.

PerkyMintDeer · 27/07/2024 14:29

I love the Winter Olympics.

It would have been Ice Dance for me. Then Figure Skating. Maybe Bobsled.

In Summer Olympics...Gymnastics, Long Jump, Beach Volleyball, Football.

TroysMammy · 27/07/2024 14:29

SwedishEdith · 27/07/2024 13:13

Shooting. I reckon that's quite doable as don't need to be actively sporty (can sit down).

I was going to say shooting and sitting down as Olympic sports I could do. Not to win a medal for the first category but I could be on a podium for the latter.😂

RomainingToBeSeen · 27/07/2024 14:30

Great question. There are so many sports that I fancy being Olympic-level at.

I could be the world's first multi-gold medalist in pole-vaulting, hockey and triathlon. 😀

RomainingToBeSeen · 27/07/2024 14:32

Perhaps there should be a new pick 'n' mix decathlon - you don't need to stick to the traditional track and field events but combine anything you fancy. If you want some rules maybe there has to be a running event, a throwing event, a water event, a riding event, something in a leotard and a bat/ball type thing.
