If you could compete in an Olympic sport…

What would you like to do?

i ride horses, so for me it would be equestrian (probably cross country, as in reality I’m not very brave and kinda hate cross country but have always wanted to fly round a huge course with confidence instead of my usual ‘don’t fall! Don’t fall’ don’t spook! Oh god we’re dead’ monologue).

or maybe something more unusual, like skateboarding…..? It looks like fun but is probably not much fun at that level!!

Slalom and downhill skiing. Whoooosh , whooooosh,....

Pegol · 27/07/2024 16:33

Street skating. done it for years since a young teen, I’m still terrible but less terrible than everything else. 😂

MouseofCommons · 27/07/2024 16:36

I'd be able to run slowly, so maybe the 800m might be OK.

But in a fantasy world I'd be flick-flacking around doing gymnastics.

TragicTess · 27/07/2024 16:41

Fencing - specifically Epee. I have very long arms & legs.

Joolsin · 27/07/2024 16:49

Trampolining. It looks fun, but my menopausal bladder probably wouldn't like it!!!

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 27/07/2024 17:23

My great uncle Hew Neilson set a world record in speed walking in 1960 (I think it was over 214km), however I limp around using crutches so I’d be bugger all use doing it in the Olympics.

I loved hockey & shot putt at school. I didn’t get as far as doing the spinning thing (balance has never been my friend) but I could manage a (nearly) 7m throw.

But hockey? I really loved it. Successful in county trials but my folks put a stop to it.

I scored the winning goal in every match from Year 7 to Year 11. My friend & I were bloody lethal together!

So hockey’d be my Olympic sport.

Synchronised swimming! And pole vaulting. In the real world I'd probably be a sumo wrestler but that's my fantasy!

MagnoliatheMagnificent · 27/07/2024 18:01

Just did that match thing and matched a wrestler so not far off!

Having watched a bit of badminton this morning, we were inspired to get the set out in the garden. What we are doing seems to be an entirely different game to what they do in the Olympics. It is so fast!

CharlotteStreetW1 · 27/07/2024 18:12

When I was younger it was diving as the women had such lovely figures #shallow. Now they (rightly) have strong, more muscular bodies, it's not as appealing.

I'm quite good at clay shooting and archery so one of those I guess.

I fenced at county level many, many years ago, I suspect that something would crack if I tried now!
I am very good at procrastination if that’s any good?

CaptainCallisto · 27/07/2024 18:36

Things I'm actually good at: archery, triple jump, long jump, and 400m hurdles before I got so fat.

I've always wanted to have a go at rowing in a proper scull, but my fantasy would be gymnastics.

GradGirl · 27/07/2024 18:37

Rowing, was my thing for decades. Now I’m landlocked and can’t spare the time including a drive, but I’ll return to it one day.

QueryA · 27/07/2024 18:49

Curling 🥌 😀

though imagine being able to run fast. It must be amazing. I plod along!

Chypre · 27/07/2024 18:56

Badminton.

frankincenseandoranges · 27/07/2024 18:58
