"What is the modern usage of Brat?"

Authentic and confident in oneself.
An icon.

according to the Independent.

Charlie XCX posted 'Kamala Harris is brat.'

Apparently Patel is too

www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/kamala-harris-election-gen-z-slang-brat-b2584519.html?callback=in&code=NZC5NTM3Y2ETNGNINC0ZNZA5LWI5MJQTNJI4NGEZZTNMODG2&state=e4662f91b4104f2697403ab5e815a37d

(I also had to look up Charlie XCX)

LlynTegid · 28/07/2024 08:12

We can argue about whether or not Priti Patel is a brat. What is proven is that Priti Patel is a bully, and in most people's eyes Robert Jenrick is corrupt.

BIossomtoes · 28/07/2024 08:13

Not just corrupt but callous and vindictive.

MissMarplesNiece · 28/07/2024 08:17

Here's my tax - paid as a Cockatiel.

Hello! Can I join this charming thread, please. I think the new government is coming along very nicely.

Here is my spoilt brat of a cat.

Welcome! What a beautiful cat!

Oh I really do hope they elect someone completely silly and prove they have learnt absolutely nothing from their recent trouncing. I'd quite like them to get another pounding in 2029 and the Lib Dem's to become the official opposition.

Me too. I’d like them to be out of power for the rest of my life.

Patel was sacked.

From memory she had meetings with Israeli officials behind May's back, then lied about it.

Not sure whether integrity features highly with any of the candidates. Maybe that's not a thing for the Conservative Party.

ilovesooty · 28/07/2024 08:31

Tugendhat is probably the least silly and nasty option I suppose. They haven't got much in the way of choice given how decimated they are.

And she's a bully who broke the ministerial code and Johnson protected her.

BIossomtoes · 28/07/2024 08:44

I’m hoping they’ll choose Badenoch who’ll travel 100 miles to start a fight. That should finish them good and proper.

Just think how excited the ardently GC posters will be if they elect the sainted Kemi. I love John Crace and his columns about how aggressive and argumentative she is. 😂

itsgettingweird · 28/07/2024 09:04

Pointy you did well to avoid it. It was awful. We weren't in actual queues for accident as we're taking another detour further up due to another accident when it happened. But the detour was heavy traffic which added quite a bit of time. Glad everyone involved was ok - but there were 2 serious injuries Sad

Littledrummer DS did really well thanks. 2 golds and a silver. Most of all he had a whale of a time racing the Paralympic team who were competing there too before heading to Paris in a couple of weeks. Both absolutely shattered now though!

pointythings · 28/07/2024 09:23

@Apolloneuro what a stunning cat! And welcome to the place where sensible political discussion lives on Mumsnet.

She got sacked by May

Johnson made her a Dame

Keir Starmer has discussed the possibility of a youth mobility scheme with the Spanish prime minister, according to reports.

https://x.com/BestForBritain/status/1817431132805247171

Pedro Sánchez reportedly put the proposal to Starmer during the European Political Community summit. Starmer did not reject the idea and told Sánchez he would consider it.

A good indicator on one of the key recommendations from ⁦@ UKTradeBusiness

That's brilliant 🤩 all that hard work and early mornings paid off.

Oh yes. I'd forgotten about Johnson WhatsApping about forming a protective ring around "the Pritster" post bullying report.

I agree I would never like to see another Conservative government again. Even better would be several of those responsible for the corruption and avoidable deaths in 2020 to be spending a long time in prison, though not expecting that.

So it seems that to have an awful Tory leader, really a choice between Priti Patel and Robert Jenrick. James Cleverly and Mel Stride are people who have little political baggage, Tom Tugendhat probably would gain the Tories a lot of votes.

Kemi Badenoch would probably not be chosen by the membership, even though her fake interest in 'culture wars' and historic comments about Nigeria would be something they would agree with.

Notonthestairs · 28/07/2024 10:29

Sky bets won't let me open that because I'm outside of the UK. Who is the most likely candidate?

DP just told me the times are reporting Reeves is going to cut a load of infrastructure projects to fill a 20bn hole in finances

I'm pretty pissed off about this one because I live in a town with a lot of congestion and the new railways has been promised, thencut the whole time I've been here (20 years).

I really hoped Labour would stick with it because it's sorely needed.
