Welcome back @dontcallmelen. Those beautiful roses are always welcome.

IClaudine · 02/08/2024 17:08

Hope you had a lovely time @dontcallmelen . Be warned that MN has become a seething mass of racial hatred this week.

IClaudine · 02/08/2024 17:12

What has Musk said about Robinson? I know I could go on Twitter and have a look, but I would rather not.

Thanks Cassie. FFS.

Maybe he meant to type “??” instead…..

L1ttledrummergirl · 02/08/2024 17:59

What a fucking poor excuse of a human being! That has pissed me off even more.

Have these arseholes not heard of Kristallnacht and what came after? It's not a protest, it's a direct attack on our freedom, democracy and sovereignty. These idiots are attacking the very things they claim to be defending. Who is pulling the strings?

I think Musk has a god complex and is quite happy pulling the strings himself personally

Pretty fkin ridiculous a random man in a different country has that much power tbh

IMVHO this is a perfect use of facial recognition. Will pick up those who already have a record and/or who are known to the police/anti-fascist/anti-racist monitors.

It is one of the reasons that many of those who have already been arrested have previous criminal records. Those who are not yet known to the police will take longer to identify.

DuncinToffee · 02/08/2024 18:18

Posted this on a different thread by accident, from Sefton Council

Southport has felt an incredible outpouring of love and solidarity from all corners of the UK this week. To show our ongoing unity we ask that landmarks across the North West turn pink this weekend in support of all those impacted by Monday's tragedy.

Sefton Council will illuminate The Atkinson building in Southport with a pink light, and many other councils and landmarks will also participate.

St George’s Hall, Liverpool Town Hall, the Cunard, The Mersey Gateway Bridge, Chester Town Hall and hospitals across the north west will also light up pink as a mark of respect on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening.

Absolutely agree, crikey some awful hatred being spewed at the moment I’ve not kept up with much news whilst I’ve been away been quite a shock the last few hours & catching up with it sincere thanks for this bastion of reasonableness.

One thing I find baffling is how many of the thugs didn't even bother to try to hide their faces. Are they deluded enough to think most people support them and that they are somehow brave heroes?

BIWI · 02/08/2024 18:38

I think they're a fatal combination of stupid and arrogant. With a deluded belief that, somehow, their protests (aka, let's be honest, violence) is somehow justified.

Evenstar · 02/08/2024 18:42

@IClaudine I saw a suggestion earlier on Twitter that those inciting the violence are implying that there won’t be severe consequences for rioting as the prisons are full.

That is an issue.

Thanks, Tories.

I have had comments like 'oh but we don't mean you' when confronting people going on about immigration or foreigners

Late to this, but it reminds me of a conversation in the 90s with a guy who turned out to be a Vlaams Blokker (this was in Antwerp) (and the conversation turned out to be an anti immigrant rant) but didn't appear to think chatting me up was in any way a concern. Me, British, living in Belgium. Oh, and presumably in no way relevant, white.

IClaudine · 02/08/2024 19:10

The thugs are apparently planning a visit to Cardiff. Very worried.

Eta: heard this on LBC, not some iffy source!

I think its going to be a damp squib. I think there's far fewer actual real life protesters than the Internet leads you to believe, and I think a lot of protesters will be put off by this sort of thing

Don't forget only a month ago we elected Labour in the face of aggressive far right hostility on line. It's not real life.

CassieMaddox · 02/08/2024 19:15

Having been on twitter a bit this afternoon I'd love to see a few prominent far right UK posters prosecuted too (looking at you Laurence Fox). It's really disgusting.

I assume they could use it to track those on the terror watchlist. If not then you seriously have to question the motives of the policy.

IClaudine · 02/08/2024 19:17

Yes, that is true, Cassie. But the fact that the attacker was born in Cardiff does make me worry it will be a specific target.

I think we’d do better spending resources tackling the cause rather than the symptoms.

I know. I'm worried too, trying to reassure myself as much as you.
