Checking in as this has been an incredibly depressing week in the UK and on mumsnet. The exposure of blatant racism that was lying just below the surface is horrific. I’ve stopped clicking on the threads now. They all go the same way with particular individuals fanning the flames. Trying to be hopeful, but it’s not my best quality.

I think that Times article makes clear that these are very dangerous people, interesting that one of them uses a Telegram social media account that is usually more associated with Russia I believe. Thanks for sharing @RobinStrike

I think we should be careful who we are engaging with on here, for our own safety, they may not be who they seem. I fear @CassieMaddox is correct that these are not disaffected Tories it feels more organised than that.

This is extraordinary. According to Farage “The far right are a reaction to fear, to discomfort, to unease…”. Farage has gone full far-right apologist. Like his justification of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, his mask has slipped & the public are starting to see who he is.

Interesting that the article indicates hard line right was annoyed that they didn't utilise the attack on the army officer in Kent effectively. It was mentioned a number of times on MN yesterday.

In other political news, Jenrick is launching his Tory leadership campaign today.

All I can tell you that my extremely hum drum community WhatsApp exploded with very clear racism, and when that person was challenged then they claimed to be an immigrant themselves. Albeit white. I do not think people have really clocked the extent of it, and presumably this kind of testing is everywhere. My community forums are full of Ai generated sleepy lions and angelic blond knights.

I have had comments like 'oh but we don't mean you' when confronting people going on about immigration or foreigners

When DH has a customer who moans about immigrants he plays a little game with them. He tells them his youngest son is an immigrants. They makes all sorts of assumptions like born abroad (aka not really an immigrant) or that he's a step son. They never guess that he doesn't live in the UK.
