This is not a cat, it's an Electric Blue Gecko. Couldn't resist sharing him.

He is so cool! ❤️

I love your cats’ literary names @ilovesooty. I’m finding life here generally depressing right now. The lynch mobs are out in full force on more than one topic.

Perdy is also literary - her Sunday name is Perdita, and the sadly departed Bengal was Cordelia because they are princesses.

Isn’t he? Stunning. Is he yours @newnamethanks?

DuncinToffee · 01/08/2024 18:51

Ah, but do you have rain @absquatulize ?

@newnamethanks what a beauty. DD has recently rescued a Chinese water Dragon. She was exceptionally grumpy but is getting less moody now.

Well I have been out today, and was a little surprised by the number of posts that had accumulated.

Have I understood correctly we have a Prime Minister tackling head on a crisis and none of his ministers have decided to pour accelerant on the situation?
And we have been blessed with a visitor to our peaceful haven?

Yes. A Grown Up is In Charge.

I'm still angry with Braverman, Anderson, Gove et. al. that they set up the conditions where the toddlers think they are running the show and camget their way with a tantrum. But hopefully Starmer has squashed it.

No rain to report in the Marches. (well there was some last night).

newnamethanks · 01/08/2024 18:56

Try to not be sad, Blossom, there really are more good people than bad. The Bad are having one of their regular resurgences but, hopefully, will be back in their box soon and their pitiful Reform recruitment drive on MN will fade away. Meanwhile, they're bloody irritating. Don't engage; 'they only do it to annoy because they know it teases'.

Tolkien's sadly departed brother was called Tolstoy.

BIWI · 01/08/2024 19:01

Thunder and lightning have now arrived - but not much rain yet.

newnamethanks · 01/08/2024 19:01

No, blue gecko not mine, he very kindly posed for a pic for my grandson at - I think Maxwell Zoo? Or possibly London Zoo, don't recall. But he's cheerful isn't he?

ilovesooty · 01/08/2024 19:02

There's Tolstoy.

I am in North West England and see there are already fears about demonstrations in Liverpool and Blackpool this weekend. We sometimes go to Southport for a day out and wish we could go and offer a little support by using local businesses, for a meal out etc when things are calmer again, but who knows when it will be.

The local businesses there have shown amazing support to their community and must be suffering financially.

Southport was quiet today. Sefton is sending messages on social media that Southport is open. They too are worried about lack of business. I’d probably avoid Saturday this weekend but it was peaceful today.

Piggywaspushed · 01/08/2024 19:10

I went cinema with my two. Bonnie and Clyde...

RobinStrike · 01/08/2024 19:13

Starmer’s speech was heartening. Sensible proposals, when he was DPP I think they had emergency courts overnight to process protestors instantly. The problem is there isn’t enough prison space. This racism feels like it’s just exploded. Everywhere I look on social media the comments are horrendous. I don’t remember ever seeing so many offensive comments in such a short time. I understand the terrible grief for the children but this feels like a powder keg.

I love themed cat names.
Mine are all types of pasta.
The gecko is stunning - went to a nearby zoo with DS a few months ago and they had one. They are tiny!
The amount of racism on MN right now is absolutely appalling.

It feels more like coordinated action to me. Similar to the Capitol. I hate it.

L1ttledrummergirl · 01/08/2024 19:21

I think more prisons is a priority.

BIossomtoes · 01/08/2024 19:22

Our cats were born a fortnight before Christmas, we called them Myrrh, Frankinsense and Gold. Gold was that rare thing - a ginger queen, she was beautiful, she just vanished one day and we never found out what happened to her.

Willowkins · 01/08/2024 19:30

BIWI · 01/08/2024 17:43

Thanks @DrRiverSong Making strawberry shortcake was on my things-to-do-before-I'm-30 list. Ahem - it's now on my bucket list Blush

bombastix · 01/08/2024 19:36

The rain has just hit and the cat has come in wet. He looks relieved. Normally getting rained on means a furious rate of protest beeps

That’s so sad. My Lucille wandered and never returned.
She was part of a paired name situation, Leo and Lucille from Jason Robert Brown’s musical Parade, based on the true story of the lynching of Leo Frank.

Oh it is coordinated. That is the point of it. And you see the same posters with the same tactics again and again. Mumsnet is not the worst place. But the visibility is there, released by the Reform vote which is the excuse.
