Bucketing down now Shock

Oddly (given our shit summer) I’m jealous. It humid and headache inducing here. Sets of my migraines. Had to give in and take codeine 8n the early hours and I still have a niggly head.

EDL? They disbanded a decade ago.

Labour are the biggest security risk the country has ever seen. They are beyond clueless and will ultimately pay the price for being apologists for many groups who form a security risk to the UK.

This government won’t last a full term but the damage they will cause before being ousted will be immeasurable.

How people were fooled into voting for them is a mystery. History invariably repeats itself.

The EDL still has activists clinging on, dragging their sorry arses around to cause trouble along with other disparate far right wing groups. Who the heck do you think has been rioting, decent citizens who are a bit riled up?

As for damage done, were you asleep for the past 14 years?

bombastix · 01/08/2024 17:07

It’s interesting what he did say about football hooliganism because there is s clear parallel there in terms of handling this and also how you deal with offenders. Though this is more serious and riot is a life sentence.

There will be a hard core of organization (old) and then a lot of stupid young men. You can break that up.

DuncinToffee · 01/08/2024 17:08

EDL has not been disbanded, check Merseyside Police statements

It’s what racists who want to think they aren’t tell themselves, that the EDL has gone and everything is fine.

I fear that will hold no sway for Charlie...

The "EDL is disbanded" line is being trotted out a lot on SM all of a sudden. 🤔

Yes this is the intelligence point. It’s part of how football hooliganism was broken up.

Last time we had riots and big ones (2012) the whole CJS was given the instructions to prioritize people who were engaging in this. And it happened very fast indeed.

Encouraging

The heat is starting to have its effect on some people, isn't it?
I've stayed indoors, it's just too hot - am on leave this week and was at the beach Monday but it's too much now.

I hear that sour grapes make a refreshing drink.

Yes because it gives an appearance of equivalence or legitimacy which untrue and undeserved

He also very rightly said that his focus was on justice for the bereaved families.

Legally this barely matters. You don’t solve your criminal offending by claiming matters have changed after the event.

Starmer announced no new powers. But I bet government lawyers told him and the police exactly how much they can do to rioters and there are a lot of options.

ghostyslovesheets · 01/08/2024 17:22

It was thundering and wet here this morning but now it’s hot as balls again.

im also glad we have a calm, educated and rational PM

the cats are not happy it’s hot

Your white cat is very much me, right now….

Zonder · 01/08/2024 17:24

Charlie2121 · 01/08/2024 16:49

If you watched that and were encouraged then I’m afraid you are deluded.

Starmer is out of his depth and is a monumental risk to the UK. He has no idea how people feel.

All I can say is you watched something different from me. Imagine if we had Johnson fluffing about again right now.

Another of those moments where it feels good to have the grownups back in government.

VimtoVimto · 01/08/2024 17:26

Starmer was DPP during the 2012 riots so probably has more experience of dealing with the situation than Sunak, Truss or Johnson.

What an excellent point. And a lot of people were convicted down in part to him.

Johnson bought two water trucks to hose people that couldn’t be lawfully used

Exactly. Thinking Starmer is out of his depth dealing with this sort of stuff is utterly deluded.

RafaistheKingofClay · 01/08/2024 17:28

Sadly not bucketting down and the thunderstorm warning has been removed. Does feel a little less humid than it was at 5am this morning though.

No idea on the recipe front but does sound good.

Do we still have them? Asking for a country.

Nah. We know you want to kid yourself, but you wait and see. The rational, grown ups are in charge rather than the corrupt buffoons.

Given the heat right now if the pressure could be adjusted it might actually be pleasant.

I think they got resold in the end

Not against that idea. Could set it up in the garden.
