@Piggywaspushed it is all too easy to get sucked in, isn't it?

Saucery · 01/08/2024 14:55

I’m doing a big clear-out today, of books and clothes etc. In between I am having a little break to Report A Racist on MN. It’s a never ending task but quite manageable in 10 minute bursts. Grin

I imagine the police will be working overtime for the next few days. Leave will be cancelled. Pinch points will be well covered. I imagine transport police will also be hard at it.

Who'd want to work in emergency services in days like these.

PM announcement at 4. So something will happen in response to this mess

LlynTegid · 01/08/2024 15:19

A few thunderstorms and rain will help the police no end.

Pulling the plug on all social media for a few days might be a good idea!

This will be a test for Starmer. Talk about a baptism of fire, though.

I'm enjoying the nice weather, but happy to sacrifice that for some calm on the streets.

Yes. Illustrates only too harshly the difference between campaigning and governing.

Thanks. I am worried the thugs are going to turn in up in Cardiff now (I live in South Wales).

Edited

I’m in South Wales too - near Cardiff. It did cross my mind. Hope it doesn’t happen though. Cardiff’s multicultural population seem to rub along quite calmly.

Do you know what, this is the first time in a long time I've read those words with relief.

cardibach · 01/08/2024 15:47

This is in the BBC app. Hope he is going to say something balanced and nuanced - I don’t like blanket bans of protest. Needs to be targeted

Events test every PM. Let’s hope he is up to it. It is tough but probably it is orchestrated and there is not a lot of choice. We have had riots before many times and the response from all governments is largely the same. It will not be tolerated

CassieMaddox · 01/08/2024 16:11

It's not protest. It's not legitimate. It's crime," he says.

Notonthestairs · 01/08/2024 16:14

I can't follow the speech from where I am.

cardibach · 01/08/2024 16:15

I’m watching the question section on the bbc app. He’s calm but determined I’d say. And very clear this is not protest and needs dealing with as such.

IClaudine · 01/08/2024 16:16

He mentioned the responsibilities of social media platforms.

He's very calm and serious, but you sense his anger.

cardibach · 01/08/2024 16:18

He’s clear it’s coordinated too. Excellent work.

IClaudine · 01/08/2024 16:20

I am so bloody glad he is in charge.

Notonthestairs · 01/08/2024 16:21

Thanks

Me too.
Can’t come too soon for the likes of the EDL.

DuncinToffee · 01/08/2024 16:25

Keir Starmer condemns a 'tiny, mindless minority' who have rioted

He says they have made the people of Southport suffer twice

'It's not protest. It's not legitimate. It's crime. Violent disorder. An assault on the rule of law and the execution of justice.

'So on behalf of the British people who expect their values and their security to be upheld we will put a stop to it'

He announces a national capability across police forces to tackle violent disorder

Sounds good to me.

Apolloneuro · 01/08/2024 16:27

Good job Prime Minister.

He’s going to deal with Farage very well.

DrRiverSong · 01/08/2024 16:34

Very grateful he’s our prime minister right now

Saucery · 01/08/2024 16:34

Read that as “deal with Farage AS well” at first glance and had a happy second or two imagining a special unit putting a peep in his gas once and for all Grin
