Sorry. I’m not usually this ranty, I promise.

Countrylife2002 · 30/07/2024 18:53

May I join. I think I’ve found my people. I’ve been busy getting riled on the tax thread and need some sanity.

DuncinToffee · 30/07/2024 18:55

Ranty is fine on this thread Grin

I have to step away from one of the Southport tragedy threads as they are advocating for the death penalty now.

Olympics and some pre-season football it is Brew

I have no problem with ranty, it's what we do here. Along with common sense, moderation and pragmatism.

I must admit I also am enjoying seeing entitled Tories detonate with fury now that the adults are in charge again. It's heartwarming.
At the same time I feel sorry for the moderates who see the party they once voted for drifting away on a tide of sewage.

L1ttledrummergirl · 30/07/2024 19:04

I haven't looked at the Southport threads, the whole thing is heartbreaking. I've been watching the Olympics instead, and crocheting for sanity. Dh and ds1 are watching a preseason match tonight via livestreaming, so I can crack on.

Saucery · 30/07/2024 19:12

I’m strangely captivated by the gymnastics, although I’m not an Olympics fan. The strength!

I really wouldn't. It's grotesque.

they are phenomenal. All of them, but Biles is something else again.

newnamethanks · 30/07/2024 19:25

Don't leave, people, the rabid right ranters have to be opposed. Undermine them whenever the opportunity arises - sometimes it takes them a while to even realise you've done so, which is interesting. The high tax economy of this thread needs all contributors, let's not have a cat shortage, please, that would be a great shame.

Piggywaspushed · 30/07/2024 19:28

I'm watching Murray. On Eurosport. Bloody woke BBC.

"You are Tom Daley "
Grin excellent

Notonthestairs · 30/07/2024 20:13

What is clear is that many know very very little about court procedures, the role of the CPS etc and the broader aims and expectations of our justice systems.

Which is how governments get away with underfunding it. It's largely unseen work but so vital. I dearly hope the next ten years are spent correcting this.

(This isn't wholly related to current tragedies, it's a long term bug bear and worry that without active & informed support for our justice systems it is easy prey for particular political groups. We are set up this way after centuries of important discussions and decisions. The law is reason free from passion etc)

RafaistheKingofClay · 30/07/2024 20:31

See Starmer is now in trouble for going to Southport but not making a speech there. That thread is going the same way as many others on that topic.

Notonthestairs · 30/07/2024 20:36

Hhhmmm personally I only want to hear from the police and maybe the Home Sec. it's not an opportunity for politicking. I wouldn't have been interested in Cameron/Sunak/Blairs comments either.

Evenstar · 30/07/2024 20:37

Tennis is on 601 if you don’t have Eurosport

Willowkins · 30/07/2024 20:50

It's really puzzling to me how some people twist the truth to support their agenda. Meanwhile, shocked and grieving families have to put up with this nonsense.
Of course we want to understand why he did it but the truth is we might never know.

Evenstar · 30/07/2024 21:07

Shocking scenes In Southport tonight, it seems the misinformation online last night from the fake news website may have originated with the Russians https://x.com/timesradio/status/1818315620334891065?s=61&t=xKCXjKa1-S6Ks0nSd_LXGg

Exactly. It’s neither the time nor the place. And nobody has any idea what Starmer may or may not have done in private.

DuncinToffee · 30/07/2024 21:26

Lozza trigger warning. I know he’s a contemptible piece of shit but Jesus Christ this is low even for him.

Christ. There are some on MN cheering this on. I am close to deleting my membership tbh. I think the site has been flooded with far right activists.

I thought it would get better after the election and they’d all piss off again. It appears they are here to stay for a bit.

Please don’t go. Hopefully things will calm down soon. They’re getting a heartening pasting on the Starmer thread.
