Best baked beans?

ODFOx · 25/07/2024 21:59

What are the best beans for me?
Heinz beans are too sweet for us.
I usually buy Tesco reduced salt and sugar and add a tablespoon of tomato purée.
We tried some organic beans from Norway but didn't like the lumps of tomato.
Recommendations please. High bean to sauce ratio, lots of tomato flavour, more savoury than sweet.
Thank you!!

Branstons. A wonderful surprise after all those years eating Heinz. Aldi own brand are also good.

Wahine24 · 25/07/2024 22:07

M+S Branston or Waitrose essentials
Also Waitrose do a mixed bean in water ( bean salad kind) and a mixed bean in a spicy tomato sauce which can be heated it's good not quite baked beans flavour but a nice change

Had Branston ever since a child.. still have them now and I've tried other brands.
Suppose you have to try different brands to suit your taste.

Landlubber2019 · 25/07/2024 22:09

Branston definitely 😁

Sarvanga24 · 25/07/2024 22:09

M&S normal ones are good, but we had a trial can of M&S organic ones tonight and they were better - not too sweet, and more than average beans to sauce.

HÆLTHEPAIN · 25/07/2024 22:09

Branston for us too. I’ve never seen the attraction of Heinz. Like bullets in red water.

Branston

Sheelanogig · 25/07/2024 22:12

Branstons.

BrickOtter · 25/07/2024 22:13

Branston for me too

LessOfMe99 · 25/07/2024 22:14

Also Branston and M&S

Cupcakegirl13 · 25/07/2024 22:17

Branstons

choppolata · 25/07/2024 22:19

Suma are the best if you can find them - our co-op sells them.

loudbatperson · 25/07/2024 22:20

The M&S ones win in this house. And only 50p a can!

Idontjetwashthefucker · 25/07/2024 22:21

Branston. Used to be Heinz until they fucked about with the original recipe and added sweeteners...despite the fact that they have a low sugar/salt version. Bastards

CocoDolphin · 25/07/2024 22:23

Branston 100%. Heinz are too watery and insipid for me.

Whoknowswhatanymore · 25/07/2024 22:25

Tried them all. Branston a clear winner, lots of lovely beans to sauce. Heinz sauce to a few beans. M&S, awful.

ThePoshUns · 25/07/2024 23:03

Branston

ODFOx · 25/07/2024 23:06

Wow, a clear winner then!
I didn't like Cross and Blackwell beans as a student (40-odd years ago) and presumed that Branston were the same so have never tried them; but with so many many recommendations I'd be crazy not to try them.
Thanks

Branston are the best

StormingNorman · 25/07/2024 23:09

DH buys Branstons. Taste amazing but more farty than Heinz. Fair warning and all that!

AbraAbraCadabra · 26/07/2024 01:12

Brandt n are nice but if you want to go UPF free then I really like Mr Organic Beans. They might even be better than Branston 😳😲😳

Disturbtheuniverse · 26/07/2024 01:20

I switched to Branston after years of Heinz. Thicker sauce and less tangy.
