Have you been to a place no one else has been to? AGAIN!

Hi

Someone mentioned enjoying this thread so I thought I'd do another one. IIRC you had to post three places and other MNers said if they'd been there. If they hadn't, you won my undying respect.

No impossible places like the inside of a nuclear reactor this time. As small as a pub, as big as a country.

I'll start:

Tikal, Guatemala
Alice Springs, Australia (easy one!)
Jinja, Uganda

GO!

@Bananalanacake I've been to Havneby in Rømø!

@LesFlamandes I was also about 22 when I went to Lesotho. Flew in a Mission Aviation Fellowship flight. It crashed later killing all on board.

It did not occur to me age 22 there was any risk at all!

BCSurvivor · 23/07/2024 17:12

Back in the 80s/early 90s I lived as a kibbutz volunteer in Israel.
Obviously very much a moment in time, and of the golden age of backpacking.
I stayed on 4, but my favourite was Kibbutz Sdot Yam, which had a private beach near Caesarea.

Don’t suppose Skipsea counts?

Been to Tangier a few times, used to sail into the marina. There's a lovely museum at the top of the hill.

@SabrinaThwaite
Thank you. If I ever happen to travel to somewhere nearby, I would enjoy visiting .

It's funny because now I think of it, I do like caves, but I enjoy the visual and somewhat magical otherworldly feel of them, and not the scientific/ geological part which is possibly what I thought of first. I suppose that's why I said I don't particularly like them.

I realise that that's how I approach many things when travelling. I like the atmosphere of something, but not necessarily the information surrounding the place. It spoiled it for me when I was bombarded with info as a child I think. I know others are the opposite though.

I've been to Peniscola too! I liked it there.

SabrinaThwaite · 23/07/2024 17:33

@woodenicelollystick

You’ll love that cave then - small group tours and not many tours each day. There’s no electric lighting, everyone has a lantern, and you see incredible cave paintings.
