Have you been to a place no one else has been to? AGAIN!

Hi

Someone mentioned enjoying this thread so I thought I'd do another one. IIRC you had to post three places and other MNers said if they'd been there. If they hadn't, you won my undying respect.

No impossible places like the inside of a nuclear reactor this time. As small as a pub, as big as a country.

I'll start:

Tikal, Guatemala
Alice Springs, Australia (easy one!)
Jinja, Uganda

GO!

I’ve been on an oil rig too, to a nuclear bunker, the Ythan estuary (loved the seals), found the site of Hitler’s bunker (there is a sign these days), Cincinnati, Fingal’s Cave and Cabo da Roca.

I’ll add:

Cape Agulhas, SA
Lassen Volcanic Park, California
In an airship

Ceruleanmoon · 23/07/2024 16:03

Can't quote it as it contains a quote but I have also been to Rongbuk monastery in Shigatse

RoseyLentil · 23/07/2024 16:04

The very top of the outside of Bath Abbey. By the clock and St Peter - was very high.
The bell tower at York Minster (had to walk along the roof to get there).

Crackofdoom. Like the transport theme. Have visited the PLA control room and went out on one of their boats.

Drove a London bendy bus.

Livinginaclock · 23/07/2024 16:14

I was in a Catholic Hospital in Lombok, Indonesia, when I got malaria there, it was surreal, with nuns coming in and out.

Backstage with the Foo Fighters isn't a place. But backstage at Glastonbury would be. Where I have been. Grin

It wasn't at Glastonbury, it was a small venue where they did a warm-up act before they played at Glastonbury the day after.

Imicola · 23/07/2024 16:23

@Cattenberg - have also been to Ouarzarzate, Morocco. Had a stinking cold and got scratched by a feral cat in the desert! I'm sure there were good points too, but that is what stuck in my mind.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/07/2024 16:26

I'll try an English one - I've been to the Culbone Stone

Rangiroa French Polynesia.

Garlickest · 23/07/2024 16:35

What lies beneath:
The tunnels below the City of Luxembourg;
A fabulous underground bar in a tiny, remote Spanish troglodyte village;
A very old, partially collapsed coal mine in Wales.

Also visited some Ancient Greek catacombs, but the experience was so marred by a very handsy guide that I can't remember anything else about it!

Oh I thought a lot would have been to that one...

I could list a lot of obscure places in Portugal, but it wouldn't be as much fun...

not so obscure:

Évora Roman Temple (Portugal)
cromeleque dos almendres - megalithic circle in Portugal
Fiesole roman amphitheatre - near Florence
