Put the country before himself - yes, finally, but he’s done it.

Please God let my country be ok.

I think that's all he could say. "Good form' that day, good form, despite whatever else... I found it a safe comment tbh.

"Seemed a teensy bit senile" might have been a shade undiplomatic 😁

Safe comments are not always a good thing. Honesty is usually a better option in the long run, especially if you're the kind of politician who prides themselves on being honest with the electorate.

I'd have respected Keir a lot more if he'd been honest rather than treat the public like idiots. It was obvious Biden wasn't all there, to put it mildly.

At least you're not denying Keir's comment has aged as well as curdled milk. The live debate with Trump was the final nail in Biden's Presidential coffin. 🤷‍♂️

Ah interesting. I was under the impression Newsome was pretty popular

Just my opinion but I don’t think middle America would vote for him.

Oh thank God. Have just watched a montage of all his falls, vague wanderings off and verbal confusion over the last 12 months and it's both pitiful and horrifying.

Montages are put together to create impressions and are often intentionally misleading. If you want a real picture, listen to a long form interview (he did one with Nicolle Wallace about a year ago) or listen to an entire speech. His command of the minutiae of foreign policy is incredibly impressive.

After Biden's disastrous debate with Trump, Keir Starmer's comments a week ago or so has aged as well as curdled milk..... 👇

Well, David Lammy who accused Trump of supporting the KKK will need to go if Trump wins in November.
Boris Johnson who vetoed peace calls for Ukraine in 2022 - leading to the deaths of thousands of Ukrainians is now cheerleading Trump to end the war - after Starmer made an enduring commitment.
Melenchon wants France out of NATO meaning that Trump and a communist are bizarrely on the same page.
Starmer needs a Mandelson to avoid unforced errors.

I haven't seen any footage of Starmer's interactions with Biden, so no idea how he presented on that occasion.

Agree. Few politicians can hold a candle to Biden on his granular understanding of foreign policy.

@DowntownFoxyBrown What do you think about Pritzker? Seems like he'd quite comfortably chew up and spit out Vance.

I’m not trying to hear that! I so want a woman in the WH

The conservatives in the UK destroyed female prime ministers Theresa May her Brexit deal was rejected by parliament and Boris Johnson used the same deal to put it through, Liz Truss ruined the country within 6 weeks and they blame her not Brexit. Margaret Thatcher my dad has nothing good to say about the iron lady. Kamala Harris is up against men she needs to be made of tough stuff we live in a misogynist world. I do hope she wins and a woman is in the WH.

I don’t see why David Lammy will need to go at all. White supremacists are the basis for Trump’s support.

Yes, he encouraged American people to riot. He tried to stop democratic process. Honestly, are you really so gullible?

You are either very gullible or shameless if you buy into the Democrats lies. Honestly talking about riots when US cities were burned down under Biden’s government at some point. Glad the dinosaur left the race but Trump win is imminent with float voters who has seen Biden/ Harris under perform after pushing Trump out in 2020. Mainly with exaggerated claims and lies supported by the media and only to see him back stronger.

"bet you anything that Trump refuses to do the second debate against Harris."

I don't think he will, if he's being the big hero waving his fist around shouting Fight Fight Fight, I don't think he could bear to run away from a woman.

Hillary said you couldn't really debate against him properly anyway:
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/hillary-clinton-trump-biden-debate-b2568561.html

From memory he interrupted her constantly and the person chairing the debate was far too weak and let him get away with it.

Plus as Hillary said in that article, the bar for Trump is so low he can just ramble non sequiters and lie and people think ah well, that's just him.
Whereas Harris will have to be absolutely on it. Her looks, her stance, her voice pitch and cadence will have to be perfect and she'll have to have a superb grasp of all the topics for debate whereas Trump can just say any old shit.

Remember he followed her around the floor, shadowing her as she walked and talked? Used his physicality to intimidate a woman. Whatta guy.

DowntownFoxyBrown · 21/07/2024 22:52

79Helene · 21/07/2024 22:42

Yeah for VP

To Kamala? I’m interested to see who is willing actually.

MaggieFS · 21/07/2024 22:56

Thank goodness he's going.

Much as it pains me to say it, I don't think a woman, and especially not someone black or mixed race would win.

Sadly, I think it needs white make to be able to stop Trump. And then once he's out of the picture, then a female.

No, after what he has done to CA, they'd be foolish to put him up. He would be a disaster for the country.

I would never vote for him.

Sloejelly · 21/07/2024 22:58

How could Biden not endorse Harris? Harris is his VP, how could he continue to have her as VP who would step up to President if something happened to him but then say he thinks someone else would be better as president?

Equally, top democrats don’t get to decide who the nominees are; that is down to the representatives from the democratic parties in different states. Ignore those state representatives and impose a candidate and you can bet the republicans in those states won’t be quiet about it.

Yeah, heard someone being interviewed before and she mentioned a potential Harris/Pritzker ticket. But she also said - like you - that he and others with a strong chance might not be willing to go on a ticket with Harris and might hold out for the big prize, either now or in 2028

There are wars in Europe and in The Middle East all reeking of Biden's failure to do any sort of diplomacy. For most of the last year the Americans had absolutely no contact with China, one of the biggest superpowers in the world. He sent Harris to Africa with a crazy agenda and she was laughed out. Now most African protests involve people in Russian/Putin shirts burning American flags.

I am amazed people cannot see this for what it is or that man for who he is. Trump is no angel but my God he is better for international relations than Biden who would happily give Americas waining money away for his own ego and pension pot.

If you think Trump is 'respected' on the world stage, you're so far beyond delusional that you've out-delusioned the term delusional. He is seen as a joke by basically every single international leader bar Putin, maybe bar North Korea. Biden was a bumbling old man, but he was respected one hundred million times more than Trump ever was or could be. In is galaxy and stratosphere and the next. I would say Trump is the least respected international leader there is. Even Putin is respected more than him.

Keep the nuclear button well away. Please?

Like the drivel about Trump doing away with term limits, the use of nuclear weapons isn't down to just one person; there's a very thorough process involved, so while many of us are worried about Trump being elected it seems a bit pointless to scaremonger

Well nuclear is now a broader term. And personally for me the reversal of Roe vs Wade was a nuclear decision. The US has become very extreme in the last few years.

I've just been reading Aaron Sorkin's essay on why the Dems should nominate Mitt Romney to thwart Trump. Strange times!

Wow, that is a very interesting idea. Would make for a very interesting series of The West Wing. As somebody who would be Anybody But Trump, I would take Romney over him.

RosieChardonnay · 21/07/2024 23:08

It will have to be Harris because of the sponsors. They are so important in the US election and so much money has already gone to the Biden/Harris campaign. She can continue this.

She will need a strong running mate. It will have to be a popular white male, someone like Mark Kelly.

She does have a chance. So much can happen between now and the election.

What I will never understand is why so many people look for charisma over competency when voting in an election like this.

I would vote for Romney and would even campaign for him. He was a success as governor of Mass. and he has liberal, conservative and moderate views, which is why the Rep. party turned their back on him and call him a RHINO.

The Republicans ran Romney for President and the D’s repeatedly called him an idiot. Most memorably, for pointing out that Russia was a huge world threat.
