Inspired by another thread. I live down a single track lane in a cluster of about 15 houses at the edge of the village.
I love it. I like the feeling of belonging and being known and recognised.

Fwiw I'm diagnosed autistic and struggle to see others perspectives. Eg I absolutely know that I believe this is the only place someone can be happy but I know that isn't true.

Just looking to widen my perspective. I have spent time looking at housing in other countries and find it fascinating

I live on a busy estate on the outskirts of a large city and love the noise and bustle of everyday life, Your house would be my worse nightmare.

CeeJay81 · 19/07/2024 17:14

I live on a small uphill side road, on the edge of a tiny rural town, in the middle of nowhere. I totally agree with you about belonging somewhere and being recognised. There's very much a community feel here.

NotTooOldPaul · 19/07/2024 17:14

I live in a first floor flat on a raod on the outskirts of a town. It is not a busy road but I love watching people walking past.

Nothingeverything · 19/07/2024 17:16

I live in southern Europe in a block of flats overlooking blocks of flats! Not the prettiest of views but I pretend I'm in Rear Window and spy on my neighbours. 😆

rallyup · 19/07/2024 17:17

I live in a terrace in a small northern city. It's 15 mins walk into the city centre, but silent and beautiful.

We have a little park at the end of our no through road.

Love it.

Nothingeverything · 19/07/2024 17:17

Just to add - I know a lot of my neighbours too. I like the area but would appreciate a better view.

CreakingLilacHamster · 19/07/2024 17:18

Peceful mostly ex council estate on the edge of a small market town. It's mostly quite peaceful. I yearned to live more rurally for years, but actually I really like the vague anonymity coupled with the knowledge that there are people about. I feel safe and secure here.

ALunchbox · 19/07/2024 17:20

In a quiet cul de sac. 5 min walk to a forest. 15 min walk to village city centre.
Nice, reliable neighbours. We don't exactly have street parties but we will absolutely help one another in case of problems.

mitogoshi · 19/07/2024 17:21

By a marina, I like the sound of the masts when it's windy but not what the seagulls leave on my car!

Wimbledoner · 19/07/2024 17:22

On a new build development of about 80 houses, my house overlooks countryside and I have great neighbours. I can walk to some local shops, the doctors, my hairdressers and there’s a really good bus service.

ApolloandDaphne · 19/07/2024 17:23

Tiny quiet hamlet on the edge of a town. I love it. I know everyone and we all help and support each other. The downside is that I need to drive to even get the most basic shopping. There is a nice country park with a cafe nearby though.

fiskal · 19/07/2024 17:23

In a terrace house overlooking a courtyard bounded by identical houses. It sounds awful but we've planted loads of greenery and the kids play out safely so it's lovely. Big park across the road. Central London.

Justcallmebebes · 19/07/2024 17:23

I live in a small cul de sac in a village on the outskirts of a market town. It's pretty quiet, but very friendly and I know most of my neighbours pretty well as most of us have lived here for years. I love it

MagicianMoth · 19/07/2024 17:24

A semi detached Victorian house on a "ladder" of streets between two busy roads, five minutes walk from the city centre. Love it and so do the kids. It's great being able to go to restaurants, shops, cinema etc at the last minute and without having to drive -I just popped into town at lunchtime to get a present for my niece for example, also picked up a library book and bought an iced coffee and was back within 3/4 hour. DS1 is five minutes walk from his school which was handy when he overslept and didn't wake up until 8.45 when he had a GCSE at 9ish, and is also handy when he has to be at school for 5am for a school trip. There is a swimming pool within five minutes walk so I can swim at lunchtime.
And I love a period house, I love that we have original fireplaces etc. Also while we are between two busy roads a very short walk takes you to very quiet roads, parks, fields, footpaths.

The downsides -parking is appalling, we often have to park a few roads away. While we don't have to drive into town, if we do have to drive anywhere, we have to navigate awful roundabouts and one way systems to get out of the city. And an older house has many issues around plumbing etc.

I like the sound of a little cluster of houses on the edge of a village

Currently on a terraced street in a city

Which we've loved but I want a quieter life now

piscofrisco · 19/07/2024 17:25

I live on a weird street that's one side old and large houses and the other side old social housing stock that's not that attractive and then a railway line. Big and grand trees line the street as it was once the main road from
One town to the next, now blocked at one end so very quiet. We live on the outskirts of a new town in a village. There are some new flats at the end of the road with some
Shops and takeout places underneath.
I neither like it nor dislike it really. It's handy for work, school and the kids other parents (we are a blended family), but it's uninspiring.

elastamum · 19/07/2024 17:26

Rural hamlet of four houses. We've all been here over 15 years and get on really well.

PattyPan · 19/07/2024 17:26

I live on a Victorian street of terraced houses in a diverse inner city neighbourhood. I think there are about 80 houses on the street. I only know my next door neighbours on each side by name and a few more by sight. I love having everything on my doorstep (having to drive everywhere would be my nightmare) & am not really fussed about being friends with neighbours but the neighbourhood does suffer from some anti-social behaviour which I guess might not be the case if we were more of a community.

masomenos · 19/07/2024 17:28

I live in an apartment in middle of one of the world’s biggest cities. I’m high up and have amazing views. I love the convenience, with everything on my doorstep. I love not having to worry about roof/windows/garden/gutter/boiler/ security/ safety etc. I love the anonymity except for the few roads around me wheee everyone seems to know everyone. It’s perfect for me.

Rubybetsie · 19/07/2024 17:30

Sounds like my dream house...I live on a new build estate next to a very busy road...absolutely hate living here..constant dogs barking all day and all night, lorries, motorbikes and very noisy people. We have been here 4 Months and we are now on the market..just hope someone will buy it so we can escape this hell-hole.

leeverarch · 19/07/2024 17:32

I live down a dead-end road on the edge of a small semi-rural town. I like it here, and there's open countryside less than 50 yards from my door.

AnnieMcFanny · 19/07/2024 17:37

In the UK I live in the last bungalow on an estate of about 20 similair houses on the green belt. Around me there’s nothing but greenery and fields and a mountain that’s just tall enough to be a mountain. A 7 minute walk away there’s a bus into the nearest little market town about a 10 minute ride away and 2 major towns are only about an 11 minute journey and a 40 minute one. I have nice neighbours and though we are only in the house periodically throughout the year we’re considered part of the community and I love my little house in my little community.

BobbyBiscuits · 19/07/2024 17:38

I live in a very historical street where we get lots of tour groups and people taking selfies. Not outside my shabby house though. Haha.
It's really central in a big city, but very quiet at weekends. There's a village green type thing, two churches and an old fashioned pub. Mix of social housing and private, about 50/50.
It's really unique and I like it a lot. But you get a lot of loud drunk people using it as a thoroughfare late at night. And lots of roadworks and construction noise.

SunmerSazz · 19/07/2024 17:41

Down a single track lane with about 10 houses. Lovely neighbours but not too claustrophobic (local village seems much worse!)

Bus at the end of the road and 20 min drive to 2 cities and 10 mins to nearest market town.

Fab views and walks straight out into the countryside
