Inspired by another thread. I live down a single track lane in a cluster of about 15 houses at the edge of the village.
I love it. I like the feeling of belonging and being known and recognised.

Same as you. Down a lane. Few neighbours. I love it. Found it weird for ages (moved from London) but I'm pretty much a villager now.

DoopSnoggySnogg · 19/07/2024 18:19

Live in a 30s semi (bungalow with loft conversion) on an avenue in a residential area of a city, right next to a seaside town/suburb (beach is 10 mins walk from my house).

I work in the seaside town and my workplace is 5 mins by bus or 30 if I walk (…never tbh). Lovely independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants in the town. Bus stop right outside house and takes about 20 mins to reach city centre.

It feels safe and is fairly quiet although my blood gets boiled regularly by cunts driving past (20 zone) at anything from 30 to, I’m not joking, 50mph. It’s fucking horrendous and I wish they would put up speed cameras or speed bumps 🤬

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 19/07/2024 18:20

I live on a single track dead end road with about 50 houses on one side only and lakes and woodland (old gravel workings) on the other side of the road.
The cats love it.

llamadrama16 · 19/07/2024 18:28

Long road of Victorian terrace houses in suburban London. I love it. We know a lot of our neighbours, incredibly friendly street, kids often play out. We’re close to a common, a few nice playgrounds, beautiful woodlands for walking, and only half an hour into the West End.

Vintagevixen · 19/07/2024 18:32

I live in an off road Twitten in a medium sized town on the coast. Bit of a pain for deliveries, but we manage! Lots of bird life because there is a very old large hedge on the lane in front of the houses.

Very quiet out the front and on a hill, so a view of the sea and the rest of the town which is beautiful - lovely big skies.

In a Crescent of 14 houses - it literally curves in a crescent shape. Unusual architecture built in the 1860's.

Marlaysydney12 · 19/07/2024 18:35

Suburban cul de sac. Estate is 40 years old, and the streets are really wide with mature trees. Can see the dublin hills. Love it!

ISpyWithMyLittleEyeSomethingBeginningWith · 19/07/2024 18:40

I live on a long side road off a steep hill in a medium sized town.
Its antisocial in that very few people smile or speak. It’s very rare to see neighbours out chatting to each other, but quite common for them to have individual loud parties outside until the early hours.

I hate it.

KreedKafer · 19/07/2024 18:42

Long suburban road of 1930s houses. I don’t love it. It’s convenient for public transport and it’s a decent part of the city, considered a cool and desirable area at the moment. Also over the road from a massive and gorgeous park in which you can walk for miles without ever retracing your steps. But I hate the shit view of other people’s houses and I hate the general obvious presence of other people all the time. If I lived alone I wouldn’t have chosen this location. But we had to compromise to find somewhere that suited us both well enough.

theaplie · 19/07/2024 18:43

I live in a road which is the first road as you enter the town. We're far enough down the road not to hear the main road although when the wind blows our way we can hear the drowning sound in the distance,

Behind us is a field with some horses in, but we're in a bungalow so we can't see it (thinking about converting the loft),

The road is lovely, the neighbours opposite are quite far away in comparison to other roads as we have big grass verges before the pavements.
Hoping to stay here for as long as possible.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 19/07/2024 18:46

I live in a quiet cul-de-sac in a lovely, friendly, fairly rural village in NW England. From my windows I can see an estuary and mountains in the distance. It's a beautiful place to live, but the weather is notoriously awful, even by UK standards!

Alicewinn · 19/07/2024 18:46

Live off a main road but opposite the sea.

TheSproutOfWrath · 19/07/2024 18:47

Moved from busy E17 to a remote farm in rural Scotland. Best thing I ever did.

BeReet · 19/07/2024 18:47

I live on a big commuter estate in a run-down town in the NW. I like my house and most of my neighbours but my garden is horribly overlooked and the neighbours immediately over the back wall are ignorant cunts.

I can (and do) walk to my work, shops, pool, gym, supermarket and there are regular buses and a train station. I am not from here but have been here so long that I doubt we'll move anytime soon. I dream of the coast.

Puffykins · 19/07/2024 18:48

I live in a Victorian terrace on a quiet crescent in a seaside town. We know most of our neighbours, I can walk to the beach in five minutes and sea the sea out of my window while I'm lying in bed (if the curtains are open), we're also a five minute from the centre of town and the shops etc., and a ten minute walk from the station from where I can get to London in an hour and a half. I miss the business of living in central London, but I do love the sea....

Flippinec · 19/07/2024 18:49

On a country lane that doubles back on itself so nobody drives down it unless they are going to one of the four properties in my postcode. Very peaceful, the occasional dog walker, jogger, horse rider goes past. I'm 15 minutes by car in different directions from 3 towns and 30 minutes from the nearest big city by car.

frankincenseandoranges · 19/07/2024 18:49

Surrounded by houses on all sides. Hate it.

1984Winston · 19/07/2024 18:50

I live in an end terraced house but there's just fields on the other side of the road, it's right on the edge of a town, I love it! Would love a small holding more but this will do

SapphireEyes · 19/07/2024 18:50

Cul-de-sac.
It's not too bad. You'd be surprised how many random cars and people appear from nowhere when you are reversing out however.

itsweirdbarbie · 19/07/2024 18:54

In a quiet cul de sac backed onto woodland, I absolutely love where we live it's so peaceful. I often sit out in the back garden when the kids have gone to bed and all you can hear is the birds singing and trees blowing.

macshoto · 19/07/2024 19:07

Old farmhouse off a very quiet B road.

Nearest neighbours (as the crow flies) c.300m (x2), 500m (x2), 800m (2). By road most of those would be considerably more distant - e.g. nearest 'neighbour' as the crow flies is c. 800m away by road.

CrushingOnRubies · 19/07/2024 19:08

I live in your average housing estate Road with a school at the end of it. Doesn't cause too much drama tbf

londonmummy1966 · 19/07/2024 19:08

Georgian garden square in central London. We all get on very well and have a lovely residents' association that organises events - Shakespeare play in the square recently. Low traffic neighbourhood so its very peaceful and parking is not an issue.

I love the period architecture but there are a lot of stairs!

whatthejuice · 19/07/2024 19:12

I live on a residential street on the edge of a sleepy market town. I love it! We have good friends on the street and people look out for each other. We love we can walk one way and be in the heart of the town and go for a coffee/a mooch round the shops, and walk the other way amd have woodland walks. We feel we have the best of both worlds!

Wealthydormouse · 19/07/2024 19:16

single track road on the edge of a village which people like to use as a short cut driving far too fast . 10 houses - only one noisy one . Love the countryside and the peace - would like to live in the middle of nowhere due to the noisy one but probably never will move

Violet17 · 19/07/2024 19:16

Cul de sac. Flats. Mix of council flats and privately owned. Open grassy space on two sides.
