Inspired by another thread. I live down a single track lane in a cluster of about 15 houses at the edge of the village.
I love it. I like the feeling of belonging and being known and recognised.

I live at the top of a cliff with only a few other properties nearby and there is road in front and then the cliffs. It's extremely quiet.

naffall · 19/07/2024 19:18

I live in a terrace on a biggish estate in a small town. It backs on to woods and a green. I know a good few people now and while i don't want to live here forever i'm watching my daughter play out the front on the green and play around mine and her pals houses. It's exactly what we wanted for her.

LindorDoubleChoc · 19/07/2024 19:23

I live on a very long road of Victorian terraced houses that stretch up a high hill in London (and I am towards the top of the hill). I have a view of the city of London from my front gate and can see Houses of Parliament, Battersea Power Station and the London Eye from my back bedroom windows. Very happy to live here.

ChangeyTime · 19/07/2024 19:24

We did live on a very leafy road in the woods.

5 minutes to our next neighbour.

Lots of wildlife and other than the animals was pretty much silent.

Couple of years ago we moved to a townhouse on the outskirts of London.

To actual city folk this would be leafy/quiet still im sure but looking from our upstairs windows we can see at least 40 other houses/gardens so very different from what we had before.

No regrets in our move at all. It's lovely to have neighbours and to say hello to people walking up and down the road each time we are getting into/out of our cars.

We're near woodland still so a lot of dog walkers up and down our road. DC have friends on our road and around the corner and are old enough to go to the park on their own. Would've been impossible on the old road.

Plus things like trick or treaters and hearing cheers when the football was on the other night is lovely.

A very large cul de sac.. houses and bungalows spaced out.. mostly detached.. a few semi detached.. lovely country lane at the bottom.
If you have seen Jane McDonald's back garden on Goggle box.. I'm similar.. but smaller.. l live round the bend from her.

I live in a quiet street in the Canadian suburbs, right near a baseball field

It's pretty idyllic

BeaRF75 · 19/07/2024 19:28

Quite a long road in a busy city suburb. Hardly know anyone, even tho I've lived here 30+ years, and that's exactly how I like it. I love the anonymity of a city, and couldn't bear it if my neighbours knew all about me, or I had to socialise with them.

Devilsmommy · 19/07/2024 19:29

In a first floor flat in a cul de sac in a small quiet village. Previously lived in a city and I much prefer the friendlier village life😊

By a marina, I like the sound of the masts when it's windy but not what the seagulls leave on my car!

Same with me, the only people who drive up and down my (cobbled) road are other people who live here. I love my home - the sounds of the boats and bells are gorgeous, almost hypnotic - but I am also only five minutes' walk into the centre of the city. I honestly have the best of both worlds, which suits me in my mid-forties.

OliveTheaBough · 19/07/2024 19:36

I live in a residential street which leads in to two others, but is not a through road to anywhere else.

it’s a good balance, and most have lived in the street since it was a new build 30 years ago.

Bananasatchristmas · 19/07/2024 19:41

Really rural hamlet in the SE, Hertfordshire. About 20 houses here and a pub. Great views, great neighbours. So quiet but only 10 minutes drive to station and then 35 mins to central London. I do miss not having a shop handy though.

NoraLuka · 19/07/2024 19:41

I live in a group of 4 houses and a farm, a few kilometres from the nearest village. I used to live in a large city in the UK and ended up here almost accidentally, took a while to get used to but I like it now. Never mind the neighbours recognising each other, people here recognise each other’s cars (and tractors!) at a distance by the sound of the engine coming up the hill!

poppym12 · 19/07/2024 19:42

I live in a flat overlooking a beach. The people around me are friendly enough but not intrusive which is perfect for me. I love it here.

aintnospringchicken · 19/07/2024 19:52

House in an estate built in 1990 in outskirts of a city.Good bus routes into the city.2 minute walk to train station and. 8 minutes into city centre.
15 -20 minute walk to the beach and promenade.Same amount of time to woodland walks and National Trust property.
Within walking distance of large supermarket.GP surgery, dentist and hairdresser also within walking distance.
We have good neighbours.

changedusernameforthis1 · 19/07/2024 19:54

I live in a semi-detached house on the edge of an estate, the house is on a side path (sorry hard to describe it) at the end of the street with a large park at the side and a small wood behind it.
Mostly quiet aside from school run hours, I love it here.

RadioGaGaRadioGooGoo · 19/07/2024 19:55

At the end of a cud-de-sac on bungalows. It's full of retired people and my self and my husband bring the average age down a lot. My kids are the only kids on the street but it also means it's incredibly safe for them to play out in the front garden and my DS plays out on the road on his bike (with me watching)

ohthejoys21 · 19/07/2024 19:56

I live on a gated development of four houses. I'd love it if it wasn't for the fact my neighbour always looks divine and perfect when she leaves the house and I dread bumping into her (while I'm dropping dd at station in my pj's)...

rightoguvnor · 19/07/2024 20:02

I live on a rural lane about 3 miles from the nearest town centre (which has no decent shops left) but only 7 minutes drive from a large supermarket if you use the cut-through and avoid the potholes.
There are 30 properties on the lane, all with sizeable plots, I reckon I know who lives in about 5 of those properties.
If I'm totally honest, I preferred life when we lived on a street of semis in a busy part of SW London, and saw neighbours on an almost daily basis. And, very importantly, it wasn't a military operation to have a Chinese takeaway.

LuluBlakey1 · 19/07/2024 20:12

On a very quiet private road that leads only to the 8 houses on our street- near a metro station, facing onto a park, lots of trees. Early 1900s 3 storey house with quite big gardens. I love it- it's peaceful, pretty, lots of animals and birds. By the sea. 5 minutes walk from the local front street where all the shops are. Very small town.

jlox · 19/07/2024 20:16

I live on a major road in south east london. I love hearing noise and seeing people walking past. Grew up on a cul de sac, where if you coughed, people would look out their windows and talk about it for a week.

hendoop · 19/07/2024 20:35

Main road - on the edge of a hamlet- have 2 neighbours.

The traffic is consistent through the day but as it's a fast road it doesn't bother us.

Tripple glazed and I have stopped hearing it

Vary rural and in the middle of a few farms. / fisheries.

Zero trick a treaters, zero house calls, no mains gas or sewage but I love the peace

I too am ND and I need the quiet of country life

teddyclown · 19/07/2024 20:37

We live close to a fairly busy, but rural road just on the outskirts of a small market town.
Lived here since 1985. A large ramshackle 7-bedroom farmhouse which is a money pit and needs lots of work. To make ends meet we do Airbnb and currently waiting for two guests to arrive Smile

TubeScreamer · 19/07/2024 20:41

Middle of a village but not on the main road. More traffic than a cul de sac but pretty quiet. Very popular road for dogs and dog walkers,

I love it. I like seeing the world go by, but would hate the noise and pollution of a main road.

Southlondonbynature · 19/07/2024 20:43

Edge of Estate road with train station one end and back entrance to school the other. Gets a bit busy and noisy at start and end of school day

Woukd prefer to live in a house in the middle of nowhere, one can dream
