Inspired by another thread. I live down a single track lane in a cluster of about 15 houses at the edge of the village.
I love it. I like the feeling of belonging and being known and recognised.

I live on a main road. I don't love the traffic but I do love that I'm so close to the heart of my area and that I am under two minutes walk to a train station and a bus stop. I know and like my neighbours and have become proper firm friends with some.

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 19/07/2024 17:41

I live at the top of a hill in a seaside town. We have incredible sea views which bring me joy every day!

It's a busy road though which is the only downside.

Onesailwait · 19/07/2024 17:42

I live on a coast road. The front of my house faces the ocean and a view of the Olympic mountains and forest to the back of the house. The drive to get into the city is a nightmare, but it's worth it.

Alwaystired23 · 19/07/2024 17:42

I live in a village (big village) also down a single lane, no direct neighbours. Not many people know my house exists, even people who live on the opposite of the entrance to the lane.

I live in a roomy 2nd floor flat in a small new build estate, on the edge of the town centre in a London suburb.

Most of my visitors had no idea it was here & comment on how peaceful it is, but I’m 10 mins walk from the tube, supermarket & gym & 5 mins from the bus station & high street. Perfect as far as I’m concerned.

catin8oots · 19/07/2024 17:42

I live on a small cut through road of 16 houses on a nice council estate. Our road is 10 houses owned and 6 housing association.

Love it. Everyone is friendly and small enough to know each other.

MouseofCommons · 19/07/2024 17:44

Ex council estate cul-de-sac. Communal parking. Mix of housing association and mortgaged. Very close to the town centre though which makes up for it.

longdistanceclaraclara · 19/07/2024 17:44

I live on a U shaped road, Victorian terraces and railway cottages. Yes I like it but I'd rather be out a bit further, but for now this location wins for us.

Jxtina86 · 19/07/2024 17:45

I live in an ex council house on a large estate in south London. It's mid-terrace but it's a short terrace. The street itself is quiet and we have a big garden. In fact the area is quite quiet even though we're 2 streets away from a busy A road. As it's London, we have excellent bus routes available so we don't have a car. Three different rows/clusters of shops are in walking distance as well as library and post office and there's a park 5mins away too.

The only downside is the parking - one side of the road all have driveways but our side looks out onto a small green so no off road parking. No allocated or permit parking either and lots of people have 2+ cars - does make me glad we don't have a car to battle it out!

I live in a cul de sac in a small commuter town.

For us, it’s the best of both worlds - fast train to London, not far from the M25…but 5 minutes cycle and you’re in proper countryside.

It was great when my daughter was little as she could safely learn to cycle on the road. Also, made good friends with other children down the road. Because it’s a small and quiet road, they can pop down the road to play with each other without us worrying that they will get run over or lost on the way.

The town itself is not very interesting, nor is it charming, but I guess you can pick up bits in the week without having to drive to the shops.

sparkles79 · 19/07/2024 17:47

I live in a small village of 10 rows of houses on a mountain in Wales.

Toddlerteaplease · 19/07/2024 17:49

I live on a nice estate in a student area, and very close to the hospital, so lots of HCP's as well. I love it. Never felt unsafe. And I like it being busy.

LizzieBennett73 · 19/07/2024 17:50

Rural village, in a small cul de sac of 8 houses built on an old mill site in the 80s. The houses are all quite quirky/architect designed and are all very spaced out/angled so no one overlooks anyone else. We've raised our family here and I love it, especially as our noisy NDN's have just put a For Sale sign up... I'm counting the days. Only sad bit is the amount of development in the village - 80 houses added in the last 5 years and potential for the same again. The council seemed happy to ignore the existing issues with sewage/water drainage and narrow access roads. There's a hamlet a few miles away that we're watching like hawks to see if a cottage comes up for sale there.

We live on a road in London that is a dead end for cars but open to pedestrians.

I hate it. Genuinely hate it.

  • it connects two stations so the foot traffic is huge and we get all sorts of people walking past including some unsavoury types
  • there was a period of a few weeks where I kept seeing police cars parked up with blue lights on
  • the road is too long so there’s no community, we moved from a road of 12 houses and everyone was just so lovely
  • cars and scooters go too fast down it even though it’s residential
MyNamesGaryAndImAddictedToChips · 19/07/2024 17:55

I live in a townhouse on a small estate pretty much in the edge of a medium size city. Very leafy and suburban. I like that I can be in the city in 15 minutes and the countryside in 10.

I loved the place we went on holiday a few years ago, a cottage in the middle of nowhere in the Derwent Valley but it was a half hour drive to a supermarket. I got back on one occasion and remembered I'd forgotten butter just as I pulled into the driveway. 😬

DancingLions · 19/07/2024 17:56

I live in a victorian terraced street in London. It's nice, we have nice trees front and back so a bit of greenery. I also love the look of victorian houses. Road itself is pretty peaceful. I can sit in my back garden sometimes and the only sound I hear is birds. Lived here 20 years and no dramas. It's not really a through road to anywhere so not much traffic. Have a tube station 5 minutes walk away. Decent high street 10 minutes walk.

I love it. I grew up very rurally and hated the lack of any kind of convenience. The non existant/shit public transport. Everyone knowing your business! Here I do still get peace and quiet but if I want hustle and bustle it's only minutes away.

Simonjt · 19/07/2024 17:57

We live in the suburbs of the capital city, our road is a fairly narrow residental road with detached houses either side. We all have wrap around gardens, from the front of the house I can see the road and the other houses and front gardens, from the back the houses either side and trees behind. We often see deer in the garden or just wandering along the road, its very quite as we don’t get any non-residents or non-visitors driving through, so there are often children playing on the road. We’re about a three minute walk from a play park and a 40 minute walk to central Stockholm. The metro is 3-5 minutes away.

Jellykat · 19/07/2024 17:57

I live on a single track road in rural Pembrokeshire..
No worrys whatsoever re security, i spend a lot of time here alone.
However, there are 3 farms along the road, and the young lads driving huge tractors at a fast speed around blind corners (the respectful older generation of farm drivers have now retired) is no joke!
All my neighbours up and down the road, have commented how scary our road is these days. Accident waiting to happen Sad apart from that its great!

BouleDeSuif · 19/07/2024 17:58

Council estate, about twenty minutes walk from the city centre.
I like it, I like having people around, I like the shops being close, and the park beside us is lovely. I do miss having a garden though.

Chickoletta · 19/07/2024 18:03

I live very rurally and can’t see another house from our property. The house is set back in an acre garden and we have a field and an orchard as well. I can drive to our nearest small city where I work in 10 mins and another lovely town in 15. We have some ‘neighbours’ in the hamlet and are all on friendly, first name terms but that’s as far as it goes. We love the peace and seclusion, particularly as we’ve had some very annoying neighbours over the years, but it’s a pain to have to jump into the car every time we need a pint of milk and the kids very much need a taxi service as there are no buses nearby.

DayOff24 · 19/07/2024 18:04

I live on the edge of a city in the waterfront area. I love it. It’s 10 minutes drive to the city and 10 minutes drive in the other direction to the seafront.

My road has about 60 houses, some big townhouses and some small terraces like mine. Main problem is the area is so lovely it attracts lots of walkers and day trippers and on a bank holiday it gets very crowded. Fortunately all the houses have parking in a forecourt at the front.

Meadowfinch · 19/07/2024 18:04

I live on a single track road with passing places through a village of about 200 homes.

It's relatively quiet, tractors, a (very) occasional local bus and even more occasional logging lorries.

The village is rural rather than smart. Community is good. Facilities are non-existent but lots of farmland, woods, common land and wildlife. Been here a decade and am happy. I don't like crowds and this suits ds and me perfectly.

Lovelynames123 · 19/07/2024 18:07

I live at the bottom of a big estate in a village type suburb of a small city. There is a nature reserve just over the back of my garden, great for the kids to play but only 20 mins by bus to the city centre, and about 15 min drive to work. The coast is a short drive away and the airport is 10 minutes away...I love the location, and don't even hear planes anymore despite being right on the flight path!

mathanxiety · 19/07/2024 18:13

Busy street, cars parked on both sides, lovely mature trees, American Victorian to 1920s style houses set back a good bit from the path and a parkway of grass between the path and the street - older North American suburb very close to a major city. We have alleys running parallel to the north/ south streets, with garages opening onto the alleys at the back of the houses.

unknowntome · 19/07/2024 18:15

I live in a small cul de sac, very quiet, tucked away from the main road, fabulous walks from my doorstep, nice neighbours, to be able to sit out in my garden and pretty much only hear the birds I am forever grateful for, long may it continue!
