Sneeze patterns?!

So I may be totally on my own here, and just bear in mind that I am autistic, but I find sneezing completely fascinating! How everyone has a different sounding sneeze, how some people always sneeze a certain amount of times, how some people “hold their sneeze in (I think it’s called stifling), some people have loud sneezes, some quiet. It just blows my mind. I find myself paying attention to the way people sneeze and there is just something that sparks my curiosity.

so all that being said - tell me about your sneezes please? Are you a one and done? Do you have one of those “dad” sneezes? Do you do quiet sneezes? Are you loud and proud? Is it always a certain amount? Do you find sneezing satisfying (I do!) or do you find it an inconvenience?

let me know!!

Me, personally, I usually always do three at a time! Quite loud (I can’t make them quieter), and very satisfying!!

Sneezing drives me mad as my dp sneezes A LOT! They deafen me and if we are in bed the bed shakes. He often sneezes 6/7 times in a fit but his record is 14 in a row. I sneeze maybe once a week or 2 and do little ones in comparison to his!

What a hilarious thread!

I'm a morning sneezer, pretty much all year round but worse in hayfever season. 3 or 4, then I'm fine. They range between dad sneezes as you say, to stifling or a more squeaky sneeze depending on the day. I find it immensely satisfying. My children find my range of sneeze repatoire comedic so I do try to vary the delivery.

Mum was the same, always needed 3 or 4 in the morning then mostly done for the day unless ill or the pollen count is high!

TroysMammy · 17/07/2024 20:59

I sneeze three times. The day I sneezed four times I thought it was unusual and the next day tested positive for covid.

My sneezes seem to come up from my toes and I find it satisfying. I also have to blow my nose afterwards. However I hate having hiccups.

serialcatbuyer · 17/07/2024 20:59

I purse my lips when I sneeze because I always used to bite my tongue

FelicityBeedle · 17/07/2024 20:59

I’m at least three sneezes, but anything up to five isn’t unusual. Apparently it’s a cute sneeze, as my colleagues feel the need to tell me that every time I do. I’d rather have a big sneeze and done

MyGentleNavyTiger · 17/07/2024 21:01

My husband’s sneezing is triggered by him coughing. Which I think is very odd. But my MIL does it too, so must be hereditary.

generalelectionfish · 17/07/2024 21:01

I often do seven, very rapidly. Apparently I sound like a staple gun.

DH normally does two or three but takes a bloody age between them (apparently his nose is "having a think") so I'm never sure when he's finished and irrationally it drives me completely mad.

Scottishgirl85 · 17/07/2024 21:05

I have numerous allergies so sneeze a lot. My sneezes set off a chain reaction, I've been known to sneeze more than 30 times in a row straight. It's really hard to breathe between them and it usually happens when I'm driving or somewhere really quiet... My colleagues shout "good morning Scottishgirl" when I sneeze, as it's the 1st sign I'm in the building.

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 17/07/2024 21:06

This made me chuckle, my best girlfriend is autistic and she's forever sending me videos of her cockatiel sneezing!

TokyoSushi · 17/07/2024 21:08

1, 2, pause, 3 sneezes, every single time!

Smellz714 · 17/07/2024 22:03

I sneeze when I'm full up, so does my Mom, I presumed everyone did until I was in my twenties and mentioned it at work.

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 17/07/2024 22:08

I'm a 1, 2, pause, 3, sneezer too!

My sneezes are incredibly loud. I cannot sneeze without engaging my voicebox, it seems.

DH sneezes after coughing.

Oh really!! I would find that interesting to hear but I understand it must drive you mad! Wow 14! That’s a lot!

Edited

Do you sneeze every day? I keep track of my sneezes (I’m weird) and I can go days without a sneeze! It’s fascinating that you have a range of sneezes! Mine all sound the same!

I used to have a manager that would have coughing fits and would always end with a BIG sneeze!

wow - more than 30 times?! That’s incredible!! I’m sorry you have allergies - I am lucky and don’t have any! Do you have a loud sneeze or a quiet one?

One and done with a classic 'ahchoo' noise. Weirdly, my partner seems to sneeze around seven times each time.

TeabySea · 18/07/2024 19:02

I'm an explosive sneezer, and can have bouts when hay-fever kicks in.

I used to work with someone who would always sneeze seven times if they ate anything peppermint flavoured. Spearmint had no effect.
