Has anyone else had their Nectar points nicked?

I checked the app yesterday and noticed I was down several thousand points.

Not a huge deal as I don't use it much so it wasn't a large amount of money, but I'm baffled as to how it can have happened.

The points were spent in Golders Green near the beginning of the month and I was 400 miles away. I've never been to GG in any case, and not to London in a couple of years.

Anyway Nectar are refunding and have closed the account and opened a new one for me, but how did they manage this??

Trying to report stolen Nectar Points. Holding on for 20 minutes then told call back in 2 hours because there is an outage. Probably system overload because this seems to happen to a lot of people who are all trying to report stolen points. Nectar need to get their act together. Also, if anyone has any other way of contacting them like an email, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

I contacted them through fb messenger yesterday and sorted out very quickly.

ShamblesRock · 04/11/2024 14:31

I did it through live chat, it was very quick and easy.

I’m in Scotland but wonder about this recent addition of points from Sunderland which I’ve been nowhere near?

Yep, thats the Red Alert! They're testing that your card works - of course, you just think "Look Nectar have screwed up, they've given me some points when I didn't use the card. Lucky me!" Then next day you find £100 of points missing. We got them back, and as others have said, it sounds like Nectar are dealing with this all the time. Maybe not surprising when all you need to spend Nectar points is the card number. Effectively there is no security.

I lost £45 in points sometime in August and only noticed it late September as we don't use nectar that often. Whoever stole them somehow got 14 points added on my account when they took the points somewhere near Watford.

I don't live anywhere near there. I rang the helpline and they cancelled my cards and sent new ones in the post but they took 30 days to transfer the points over and rewarded the £45 in points as "goodwill gesture".

CS tried to challenge me in asking if I had ever visited Watford but I said check my history and they said I would get the points back.

Keep challenging as it is an issue which nowadays people somehow clone accounts/ cards and make things stressful.

Well I got through on the Chat after 15 mins or so and the operator said she could see where the fault is and has moved the points onto the new card they sent me. Apparently it'll take 24 hours so fingers crossed!

She didn't elaborate, but it sounds like they'd been refunded but were sitting on my old card which I no longer had access to because they'd updated my account.

Thanks for the heads up! Tried calling Nectar and it was closed. Will call them tomorrow!

Fab news - I spoke to them yesterday and they’d said they sort it. Now locked out of the app 🤷‍♀️

ShamblesRock · 05/11/2024 20:37

Fab news @smallchange

@Grumpysawus I had a text sent with the new number and set up a new account. It meant I had a couple of weeks of very random nectar price offers, but it seems to have caught up a bit now. It took a bit longer for the new cards to come.

ShamblesRock · 23/11/2024 22:12

An interesting article in the FT (I think you can read one article for free)

It seems if you try to spend £50 worth of points in Argos they will ask for photo id but that will be of no benefit when they spent my £135 in Sainsbury's.

I am obsessively checking my account every day now.

My account no longer lets me log in and I’ve had nothing from Nectar - email, text, letter.

It might be worth braving the chat again. Mine was sorted quickly the 2nd time but I got the impression that something hadn't been done quite right when the previous person was sorting it out.

Interesting to find this thread - I've just had 500 points taken from the opposite end of the country! I expect this was a "test" and they would've come back for more, but I've asked for our card to be paused via their Twitter desk - DH will need to call in the morning to get it sorted out as they wouldn't speak to me about it. Despite them emailing me. And despite it being my card number that they used. Hmm

Bibbitybobbity70 · 28/12/2024 17:48

Just had all my nectar points nicked! Spend in various stores in London, I'm at home in Scotland! Frustratingly as its the weekend all the usual methods of reporting are closed so can do nothing until Monday. I've emailed their scam notification but can't do much else till then.

MargaretThursday · 28/12/2024 17:50

FB messages worked for me.

We'd had 120k points taken in 4 transactions in one day in a place we'd never been.

Bibbitybobbity70 · 28/12/2024 17:52

Will try that, thanks 😊

ShamblesRock · 28/12/2024 18:46

@Bibbitybobbity70 once I spoke to someone I got it sorted fairly quickly, so hopefully once you can speak to someone you will too.

I actually found out this week that the same happened to my sister, in London again.

@WestrayWife Did you get sorted? I had the 500 point 'test purchase' too, unfortunately I didn't realise.

WestrayWife · 30/12/2024 18:25

Yes @ShamblesRock we got a new account and they transferred the remaining points, plus reimbursed those that had been stolen. They were very good about it actually, and when we were in store they gave us a special card to use that still gave us Nectar prices whilst we were waiting on the replacement card turning up.

When it did turn up I promptly blew the lot on Christmas Prosecco - lesson learnt and won't be letting the value of points climb up that high again, just in case.

Bibbitybobbity70 · 31/12/2024 11:19

Update - just spoke to someone & have new card nos & points have already been returned on the app, will spend them quickly though! Was complicated by fact DH is actually the primary collector which meant they couldnt deal with it over messenger (but could register it as fraud) Of course he hasn't used his card in yrs so had to do a full house search to locate it, found it earlier though & 5 min call sorted it out 😊

Nourishinghandcream · 31/12/2024 11:45

I have just got off a (rather long) live chat with Nectar regarding missing points and my inability to spend my accumulated points at Sainsbury's (computer says "no").
Tried to spend them in the run up to Christmas and again yesterday with no joy.

They reset my account and said that the missing points are on the system so should be on my account in a week or so.
Only time will tell.

Bibbitybobbity70 · 31/12/2024 11:55

Hopefully it won't be that long! I had to log out of app & back in, points were there already.

Bibbitybobbity70 · 31/12/2024 11:56

Dropping DS1 off at work then heading to spend my points!

Grumpysawus · 05/01/2025 00:16

I think mine is finally all sorted as I’ve had emails after calling again 🥳

BestDIL · 05/01/2025 00:29

Same thing happened to me. Phone them and they should refund.

Mizzlily168 · 18/01/2025 20:06

Crikey just happened to me spent 500 points also in London - Dalston, I have never been there before!

I just want to know how they got my card details as I am very tight on security passwords and use two factor where I get a code just to log on.

I might do the same as mentioned above and spend the points or convert them to vouchers instead of leaving a mass amount if the account is so easily compromised. Angry
