Someone has lost their loved one, please keep it kind and respectful.

This is exactly what MNHQ should be reminding posters to be. Shame.

MrsSunshine2b · 15/07/2024 15:42

There's a lot of people saying he "turned his life around." I'm not really sure how finishing an 18 month community order and then going on holiday to Tenerife and spending the night in an AirBnB with a drug dealer. We don't know if he was under the influence that morning but we do know that after being told he had a 10 minute wait for a bus, he chose instead to head off in the wrong direction with no water or phone battery, so he was certainly not making sensible decisions.

I feel really sorry for his family and I hope they believe that he was going to go on to become a productive and happy member of society. I don't.

Will we ever know if he was thrown down this ravine vs fell. He was young and fit, doubt he'd have fell.

Is this a serious comment?

Sweetenuf2 · 15/07/2024 15:42

I think he fell. Not pushed.

He was hungover after a night of alcohol and possibly drugs - with barely any sleep. Young or not, walking in that state in a remote area in that heat - and with no battery left on his phone surely it’s almost inevitable a fatal accident was going to happen one way or the other? If he didn’t fall it probably would’ve been death by dehydration/sunstroke.

SSBBW · 15/07/2024 15:42

Nonsense. He was lucid enough on those phone calls, had had a couple of hours kip. Why would he fall down a ravine. Theres a rabbit off.

OhHelloMiss · 15/07/2024 15:43

Cattery · 15/07/2024 15:32

@OhHelloMiss He was a member of a violent gang who attacked another man with a machete then laughed about it in court

Edited

Did he not serve his sentence

The prisons are FULL FGS. If a judge has deemed him free then that's where he SHOULD be, not still 'in prison' because some mumsnetter prefers that

Prison I work in is full. You can't magic up more cells can you?

Slipped? One loose rock is all it takes. It's not like it's a flat pavement

Viviennemary · 15/07/2024 15:46

That's grim. I must say I thought he had gone off with some shady people.

UptheHoop · 15/07/2024 15:46

He didnt have a deathwish though did he?

OnTheShelfie · 15/07/2024 15:47

Problem is OP, you defend starting a thread like this because you want to discuss the news sources, but this is the sort of thread that attracts and creates conspiracy theories. People come on and share their views, it escalates, more people believe the crao they read and its threads like this that are the cause of the conspiracy theories getting worse. Sorry to say it, but these threads are never innocent, no matter the intention.

I think the machete attack and the suspicious go fund me is what lost a lot of public sympathy.

Completely different to a tv doctor on holiday with his wife, who then didn’t collect £40k from the public?

I don’t think I’ve ever cared less about someone missing/a body being found.

Same

Had he been sent to prison he’d be alive now.

Fucking hell. 😂How has your comment slipped through the net?

Do you seriously believe that the Tenerife mafia headed up the mountain, accessed a steep and dangerous ravine, and dumped a teenager down it?

You could be a professional athlete yet slip on unsteady ground. He was a confused, dehydrated teenager who'd been raving all night at a festival.

Sweetenuf2 · 15/07/2024 15:49

Because a couple of hours of sleep is not enough for a human to function as well as they should. Because he is outside walking for a long time in the heat and potentially without water. Because he doesn’t have the correct footwear for such a long walk.

You could still be under the effects of alcohol and drugs even if you sound “lucid”.

His fate was pretty much sealed when he set off on that journey.

It would be more of a surprise if anything didn’t happen to him.

SSBBW · 15/07/2024 15:49

I dont care about his past. Its what he was doing with johnny vegas/qassim we all want to know. He left the apartment alive he said, but obvs didnt get far.

OhHelloMiss · 15/07/2024 15:50

No you mean if his sentence had been long enough

He could have been released well before the holiday

Like the guy he cut with a machete you mean.

What a vile thing to say.

Cattenberg · 15/07/2024 15:51

Some of the comments about the Go Fund Me are pretty thoughtless. If something similar happened to your son or brother, do you think you’d still be fit for work? You’d likely need to take a prolonged period off sick. But the bills would still need to be paid.

I feel very sorry for Jay’s family. Some of the posters on here who claim the same clearly don’t mean it, or they wouldn’t be putting the boot in on a public forum.

I wish people realised that in our Welsh mountain ranges. I wouldn't dare walk on them now even in the best weather conditions.

So you're saying Jay was killed where his phone last pinged.

Then his body was moved somewhere else.

And then the killer moved it back to where his phone last pinged?

Hmm thoughts. Play with fire and you get your fingers burnt

Was thinking this whilst watching Lake District Rescue. So many people overestimate their ability or underestimate the terrain.

Why are you so focused on Johnny Vegas? He had left their house and was heading off to wherever he wanted to go next. That stay was a brief moment in his past. He allegedly stole a Rolex about 12 hours earlier - I don’t know if that’s true but that’s kind of irrelevant too. Yes he made a lot of bad choices which yeah indirectly may have led to his death but ultimately it seems the immediate cause was an accidental fall.
