House full of flu - Anybody else?l

I can’t even believe we’re all experiencing this mid July, I know there’s strains to catch all year around but I just didn’t expect it. I know you might wonder how I know it’s the flu and not just a nasty cold but we’ve all had raging temperatures, can’t speak for the kids as they’re still young and don’t understand but me and my partner have had serious killer aches to the point walking has felt impossible. A complete blocked nose, no appetite, chills and shakes, and my throat, well entire mouth really is killing me due to coughing so much. We’ve all at least vomited twice too.

The worst thing is how abruptly it came on, we’ve all caught it one after the other from each other, me being last so I just feel deathly still. It’s only been 4/5 days for the kids and my partner (3 for me) so I know it’s ridiculous to expect to be any kind of better yet but oh my god please tell me we’ll get through this! 😭😭😭

I've just recovered from this turned out it was covid. It was a real fucker. Still not right 9 days in.

Hope you feel better soon lots of paracetamol and water.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/07/2024 08:31

More likely to be covid this time of year than flu. Feel better soon 💐

Have tested twice as could have sworn it would be Covid but both tests negative! 😭 Thank you! Definitely making sure we all regularly keep up with paracetamol and nurofen for the kids and drinking plenty!

It took 4 days for me to test positive even though I definitely already had it.

We have had the same, as like the previous poster tested negative at first, but after a few days got strong positive Covid tests. This time has been much worse than the last couple times we had it.

It's a few of weeks on now and I am still floored by tiredness. It's a nasty one. Make sure you rest up and give yourselves time to get over it properly.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 15/07/2024 08:44

I think you need 14 days to fully recover from the flu although I would expect to back to work before then.

And, yes, it came on super fast for me too. Even though I was vaccinated. But the vaccine is for the variants they expect to be circulating which is not necessarily what is circulating or what you catch.

MigGirl · 15/07/2024 08:49

We are right in the throws of this now, it's not flu it's covid. On Wednesday me and my daughter where both sat nursing a lemsip and I said I haven't felt this bad since the first time I had covid before I was vaccinated. Luckily we still had some tests in the cupboard, it came up positive straight away.

DD had it first, I reckon she brought it home from college. Then me, DH and now DS we just all dominoned, thank goodness for home shopping.

I've started to feel better, but I got up yesterday and then made myself sick so determined to take it easy still.

Had full range of symptoms, from blocked nose, headache, sore throat, sickness, coughing, loss of taste, upset stomach, aching joints. Had enough now really 😪.

I had been wondering if anyone else has had it so bad.

SavetheNHS · 15/07/2024 08:49

Flu is a seasonal illness which crops up over winter. Covid is all year round and we are in the middle of a big summer wave of Covid right now, so more likely to be that.

Nevertheless, it's a nasty one and making people really quite ill, so look after yourselves and I hope you are all feeling better soon. Take it easy for a few weeks afterwards too to reduce the risk of long Covid.

shellyleppard · 15/07/2024 08:51

I started with it on Saturday. Spent all day in bed yesterday. My voice went, couldn't eat anything. Head felt like it was in a vice

Dominoed is a perfect way to put it! We were supposed to be going away on holiday last Saturday, you really couldn’t make up the shitty timing of it all! 😭 My youngest is only 18 months and is waking up crying around 7am (after crying on and off all night tbh) and then is back passed out within the hour. Everybody’s temperatures are down today, mine is slightly higher at 37.6 but definitely nothing like the 39.7 my partner had on Saturday night 😖 He seems to be doing the best out of all of us tbh! Maybe allowing his temperature to get so high has killed it off quicker? Who knows.

I'm in the throws of this right now too! It came on very abruptly for me too. Was suddenly feeling very run down on Friday evening. Took a power nap and woke up with horribly achey muscles, sore throat, and zero energy.

I'm so bored of it already, but fear this will linger on for a while.

My sympathies to everyone else going through this right now!

the80sweregreat · 15/07/2024 09:36

Was poorly last week and by Thursday I was being sick and had a migraine and neuralgia and felt awful.
Still have a cough now.
Just hope the rest of the family don't catch it

Lefmry · 15/07/2024 11:18

Have tested again for Covid and it’s still negative! I have gone even worse again I actually have never been so poorly in all of my life! 😭😭

Are you using nasal or throat/nasal swabs? So much covid going around. I know loads of people with it :(

purplepandas · 15/07/2024 11:23

SAme here, it is shit. I am sorry to all who are struggling with it. Have not felt so unwell for ages (since covid in fact)

DifficultBloodyWoman · 15/07/2024 11:24

Covid may well be more likely. But you can still get flu in the summer.

And there are some other nasty respiratory viruses floating around as well.

Short version: it doesn’t matter that much what virus has caused this, you are still sick.

FuckMeUpFlorida · 15/07/2024 11:26

Solidarity OP. Don't know what I have but this headache isn't normal for me. Sore throat has turned into a cough. I sound like a barking dog when I talk.

Hope everyone feels better soon.

BlowDryRat · 15/07/2024 15:03

DD is at home from school today with covid. She's got a high temperature and generally feels crap. Hope everyone on the thread feels better soon!

Lefmry · 16/07/2024 14:35

So sorry to hear everybody else is feeling so rotten! 😭 I’m not kidding when I say I’ve never been this poorly in all of my life it’s awful. We decided seen as the holiday was paid for that we’d go and make the most out of the 5 days we had left. Well.. we got here in one piece (2.5 hours drive to a cottage in wales) but both children are just so poorly, they’ve both slept all day long and I’m so concerned about my 18 month old that we’ve gotten him an emergency appointment up the road at the local doctors thankfully. I just will feel so much better knowing he’s been checked over properly.

In terms of symptoms in case this can help anybody else: my head feels like it’s going to explode, I can barely hear anything, coughing, congested nose (and I really mean like not even the tiniest amount of air can get through it), I’m having to breathe through my mouth constantly so my lips are all cracked and chapped and it’s caused me to have ulcers on the roof of my mouth just adding to the pain that’s already in my throat, I haven’t been able to eat for 4 days except the odd nibble of something and my legs are still very weak. Oh and of course just sheer exhaustion.

Things that are better are my temperature seems to consistently be at around 37.5 now as apposed to 38.5 and the aches seem to have finally disappeared but that’s about it. Haven’t been sick either since Saturday night too.

Honestly whatever this is it has been absolutely brutal beyond words. I’ve never, ever known anything like it.

Hope you feel better soon.

We're a team of 85 at work, approx 25 due in on Saturday and 10 off with covid. One of my colleagues has had max time off for illness and a warning, so he had to come in on Sunday - I had to work in close proximity to him for two hours so waiting for my turn. No colds or bugs going around in my other job, friends, family, but it only takes on person to get something!

caringcarer · 16/07/2024 15:34

There is a lot of COVID about ATM.

Dexterrolledoffthesofa · 16/07/2024 15:42

Have been feeling RAF since last week, but just assumed it was a bad cold. However, on the back of this thread I've just taken a test and I have Covid.
What is the most up to date guidance re isolating, etc?

Thescarynun · 16/07/2024 16:01

It's Covid. I'm on day 7, have all those symptoms and still feeling as rough as hell.

Lefmry · 16/07/2024 16:42

The tests these days must be so rubbish to not pick up on it! 😩 I’m convinced myself now that it’s Covid but day 4 and still testing negative as anything.
