House full of flu - Anybody else?l

I can’t even believe we’re all experiencing this mid July, I know there’s strains to catch all year around but I just didn’t expect it. I know you might wonder how I know it’s the flu and not just a nasty cold but we’ve all had raging temperatures, can’t speak for the kids as they’re still young and don’t understand but me and my partner have had serious killer aches to the point walking has felt impossible. A complete blocked nose, no appetite, chills and shakes, and my throat, well entire mouth really is killing me due to coughing so much. We’ve all at least vomited twice too.

The worst thing is how abruptly it came on, we’ve all caught it one after the other from each other, me being last so I just feel deathly still. It’s only been 4/5 days for the kids and my partner (3 for me) so I know it’s ridiculous to expect to be any kind of better yet but oh my god please tell me we’ll get through this! 😭😭😭

Ergh 18 month old is on antibiotics for tonsillitis as a secondary infection from the flu/covid/whatever the hell this is. Thinking of taking my eldest tomorrow morning as his coughing has ramped up a gear in the last few hours, poor things sound absolutely awful.

I think it's more likely to be covid rather than normal flu.
From what I've read, pink eyes, diarrhea, severe allergy like symptoms are acually all covid's latest strain symptoms.

Do you mean like bloodshot eyes? Or like eye infection pink eye? Because my son definitely had 2 days of really bloodshot eyes and I just put it down to the fact he had basically slept for 48 hours! I also definitely thought I had bad hayfever to start with too before the fever kicked in!

As others have said if you are sick you are sick it doesn't really matter what virus it is.

However....how are you doing the Covid tests? Nose only? Swab the throat and nose, the virus tend to be more more abundant in the throat so if it is Covid you are much more likely to pick it up

DifficultBloodyWoman · 16/07/2024 22:14

I have had COVID twice. My husband and I had the same symptoms at the same time. I had it slightly worse. He tested positive. I tested negative. Repeatedly. But I guarantee we had the same thing,

VWT5 · 16/07/2024 22:16

Exactly the same symptoms - shocked that it was positive for covid on day 5.
Started very suddenly, literally funny head at 0850 one morning. Lasted exactly 2 weeks. Just recovering today.
The symptoms (totally debilitated, headache, breathless) actually got worse and worse day by day…..if it helps.

Longhotsummers · 16/07/2024 22:19

DS is full of it and I’m convinced it is Covid. High temperature, banging head and aches all over. He never gets ill.
I’m keeping my distance as I had it this time last year on my birthday and don’t want a repeat again this year.

strawberryblue · 16/07/2024 22:32

Yes me and I'm really struggling 😩

noctiscaelum · 16/07/2024 23:15

Both my husband and ds had bloodshot eyes, as well as hayfever symptoms.
I've only read it after a while that happened, so at the time I didn't think anything of it. But now I think they might have had covid.
I didn't get those symptoms, but I did get swollen lymph nodes, so I may have had them too.

BadlandsofYorkshire · 16/07/2024 23:18

My young son coughed right in my face when I was putting his shoes on this morning. I thought that's me fucked then. I'm laid in bed now feeling like utter shit.

Inspirationpending · 16/07/2024 23:25

Sympathies to everyone who is suffering
I had what I thought was an eye infection start of last week, limped through work feeling increasingly crap.
By Thursday was horrendous, raging temp, diarrhoea, sinus pain
Tested positive for Covid Friday, by far the worst out of the three bouts I’ve had
Negative today but still really drained, luckily have option to work from home

OnSecondThoughts · 16/07/2024 23:29

Yes. I came down with it a few days ago. Nothing too horrendous, but shivery, achy, cold, headache etc. Took a test, yep it's Covid. A bit milder than when I had it before, but the same basic symptoms. Shopping list: honey, lemon, lots of drugs.

Katy4321 · 16/07/2024 23:48

We all had something in our family, and the toddler had it worst, but thankfully better now.
I've tested three days in a row for COVID and used two types of test and all negative.
My nose was horribly blocked and getting rubbish sleep and exhausted from looking after a toddler.
I've used otrivine since yesterday and it has been a game changer, to help me breathe through my nose and get some decent sleep (nose felt like it was swollen and not just blocked up with mucus).

MigGirl · 17/07/2024 01:56

Not this time, as I only tested myself. But last time we all had covid when there where still some restrictions in place DD came down with it first and she tested negative for it twice, it wasn't until I had it 4 days later and tested positive that I realised we all had covid 🙈. I'd sent her to school as well because her test was negative and assumed she just had a cold, boy did I feel bad as we where supposed to be keeping them off for 5 days at that point.

So I don't always trust the tests. However whenever we have all had it in our house, youngest DS has always been the lest ill. And a common cold and put him in hospital as he has bad asthma , but covid doesn't seem to cause to much of a problem oddly enough 🤔.

We have all had really upset stomachs with this variant. I think I'm the one who actually seems to be starting to feel better first for once.

Did your toddler sleep a lot through it? 😩 I’m worrying as he’s slept A LOT since yesterday. I would say close to 20-22 hours in the last day or so. He’s had two doses of antibiotics so far and his temperature has come right back down to normal!

Get some decongestant spray, you'll feel a lot better when you can breathe properly!

Yes my toddler was sleeping a lot - but not as much as that. Good that his temperature is better and sounds like you've seen a GP, but with a little one I wouldn't hesitate to call again if things change or you are concerned.
How is he when awake? Alert, interested, drinking wet nappies?
Hope you all feel better soon - we are all nearly out the other side, but it's been horrid.

Flumpie59 · 17/07/2024 10:39

I'm so sorry you've got a household full of it! Flu is piggin' awful! I've had pneumonia several times over the years to the point it lasted anywhere from 3-6 months each one and I was on prescribed medicines for them but I found I could cope better with that than flu!

In April, May June this year my hubby and I both got a serious dose of the sickness and diarrhea bug, then we both got Covid then both got flu, all within 12 weeks!

I hope you all make a speedy recovery!

Yeah the GP yesterday checked him all over and spotted red, swollen tonsils with the start of the white lumps. I know tonsillitis can be nasty but god I did not think it would knock him about this much but I guess it’s from back to back illnesses more than anything. He is still managing to drink and having hefty wet nappies. He’s had 3 lots of the antibiotics now and I know I’m probably expecting miracles but he doesn’t seem better at all! In fact he’s spent the best part of the last 1.5 hours crying! It’s like he’s just so over it 😔 He’s picked at a few crisps, few pieces of dry cereal and then gone back to sleep. I really hate this for him, for both of them, hell I hate it for me! It’s been the worst 😔

So hard seeing them poorly - just keep offering food and don't worry what it is.
We just sat on the sofa cuddling and watching a lot of Peppa Pig to get through some of the hours.
Hope he feels better soon and call 111 or your GP if you are still worried. x

Help!
I have been ill since Monday with a sore throat and various symptoms but so far all 3 tests are negative.
I didn't test yesterday but will today. Why is it neg if this is not covid?

My symptoms are very sore throat like tonsillitis. That has eased a bit but been maxing out on pain killers and lozenges.

A dry cough keeping me awake at night.

Now the throat has eased but my nose it blocked, sore down the back of my nose, so mouth drying out overnight and coughing again.

No really high temp, no muscle aches, not off my food. Low energy as the throat pain and cough kept me awake a lot of the night.

Yesterday I started sneezing like mad and now it feels like a heavy cold with a blocked nose but very runny when I sneeze.

I've not had Covid at all before and didn't even catch it when DH had it at Xmas.

BlueBirdBell · 19/07/2024 09:28

It’s Covid.

was that for me @BlueBirdBell ?
4 neg tests so far.

justasking111 · 19/07/2024 10:15

We thought we both had COVID last month. DH got it first then passed it on. Our symptoms ticked all the boxes. But a month later I've got blocked nose and nasty cough again. Not as bad as last month. But buggrit I've had enough. 🤬

I have tested five times now, even did what some suggested on here and have swabbed in side my mouth too and it’s still negative. What you’ve got sounds like it could just be part of a very nasty cold. I’m still certain what me and my family have had has been the flu. After 5 Covid tests I’m sure one should have been positive.
