Cherries - THE best fruit

Do you agree? My top 3 has been the same since I was a child:

  1. Cherry
  2. Mango
  3. Peach

(Have to add raspberry as 4th as I'm particularly obsessed with them at the moment!)

Cherries are delicious and my fruit of choice when in season - but only because they have such a short season.

My favourite fruit is a nice ripe yellow-flesh nectarine, followed by a really good tasty and juicy plum.

idril · 14/07/2024 19:50

Love cherries but they are just sooo expensive!

Comedycook · 14/07/2024 19:50

Raspberries
Pomegranate
Nectarines

My cherry tree had the most delicious cherries this year!

I harvested as many as I could reach..... the dog was hoovering up the ones I dropped and the birds got the top unreachable ones

We all had a feast 🍒

Quornflakegirl · 14/07/2024 20:03

I do like cherries but they are not in my top three.
My top three are lychees, prickly pears and mango.

FunkyMonks · 14/07/2024 20:07

Cherries
Watermelon
Strawberries
Banana
And at a push occasionally apples

I love oranges but tend to prefer them in the winter months.

ImWearingPantaloons · 14/07/2024 20:07

Raspberries
Blackcurrants
Strawberries

If I'm allowed a fourth I will put forward the humble orange

MWNA · 14/07/2024 20:10

I love cherries. They're fiddly though.
I like raspberries but they go off so quickly!
Nectarines taste lovely if they're just right.

ConfusedGin · 14/07/2024 20:21

Technically, tomatoes are my all time favourite fruit.

More traditional fruits
Mango
Strawberries
And yeah, I do love a cherry.

My fourth / fifth (if you're counting tomatoes) is grapes, in their wine form.

ThePoshUns · 14/07/2024 20:21

Ahhh I love cherries , can easily eat a whole punnet to myself.
I also love peaches and am just thinking o haven't seen a my this year..

Madcats · 14/07/2024 20:26

My summer joy is to buy a paper bag of cherries from a fruit stall!

Can I add white peaches to the list, please?

Anunymus · 14/07/2024 20:26

Yes cherries would be in my top 3 too. But raspberries are my all round favourite, and strawberries, picked and eaten while still warm from the sun are pretty damn good too.

It doesn't really fit because it can't be eaten raw, but lemons are also right up there.

Tanfastic · 14/07/2024 20:28

I love cherries but cherries don't love me and give me a right tummy ache if I eat too many. I did buy some yesterday though. My top 3

Mango
Strawberries
Blueberries

But all the above need to be sweet and ripe.

honeyfox · 14/07/2024 20:31

We bought a pile of cherries yesterday, they are fab. I felt all delighted with myself as the only type of cherry I met as a child was the glacé ones.

catin8oots · 14/07/2024 20:33

Cherries are the elite fruit. They sell them at the side of the road where I live at this time of year. I'm constantly buying and eating. When I win the lottery I will buy a cherry farm

Putting · 14/07/2024 20:34

Strawberries
Cherries
Nectarines

I’m surprised mango is so popular - that and passionfruit are about the only fruits I don’t like!

Redglitter · 14/07/2024 20:35

Ugh I hate cherries. Cherries & pears

HelloMyNameIsElderSmurf · 14/07/2024 20:36

We went to a gite once that had six cherry trees, had to fight the birds for them but still warm from the tree...OMG. Best thing I've ever eaten.

I have frozen (defrosted obvs) raspberries and cherries for breakfast every morning with natural yogurt. That's my joint first place, followed by peaches.

Lokshen · 14/07/2024 20:36

Any stone fruit, plus raspberries. This is about the only time of year I eat fruit, as they all give me awful indigestion and so they have to be worth it!

GreenMarigold · 14/07/2024 20:38

I love nectarines, peaches and oranges, followed closely by strawberries. I don’t really like cherries, pears, grapefruit or mangoes.

Garlickest · 14/07/2024 20:44

Papaya. And then, yes, cherries! Wish they had a longer season. There's a beautifully productive cherry tree in our communal garden, but either birds or human cherry thieves get to it very early on Ripening Day. Never seen how the dawn harvest is performed - but I did pick a decent bowlful during lockdown and, as far as I know, birds didn't observe the restrictions 😏

ThatBusyFox · 14/07/2024 20:44

Oh I'm excited at all the love for cherries!

I should also clarify that by peaches I meant peaches & nectarines, in fact I do prefer nectarines so I am with you all!

I also thought I was alone in preferring raspberries to strawberries (as it's the case in my house!), I'm glad others recognise how superior raspberries are.

Ooo watermelon may be my 5th!

I eat bananas every day, they're just a safe bet and never disappoint, I really ought to put them up there too!

If someone could figure out how to grow a properly seedless watermelon that would be one of my favourites
