Do you agree? My top 3 has been the same since I was a child:

  1. Cherry
  2. Mango
  3. Peach

(Have to add raspberry as 4th as I'm particularly obsessed with them at the moment!)

Not keen on cherries.
Buy alot of strawberries, raspberrys and blackberries and also pick them.
Like Melon and apples too, and pineapple.
Some lovely fruit around.

Love cherries, but can't believe no one else has mentioned rhubarb, my favourite!

I love rhubarb but it is a vegetable. I believe it and tomatoes are on some kind of exchange programme.

Onlywayisupmaybe · 16/07/2024 21:47

Sorry, you are mistaken. The best fruit is ENGLISH plums.

That is not true. You are mixing up the botanical use of the word fruit and the culinary.

Vegetables are any part of a plant that we eat. They can be fruit, leaves, flowers, berries, stems, roots. Lots of vegetables are fruit: aubergine, cucumber, peppers, squash, chillis, sweetcorn, olives, peas, beans.

While culinary fruits are usually botanical fruits (technically developed from a single ovary) hey are not always so berries aren't botanically fruit, angelica and rhubarb are stems, figs are flowers, apples and pears are pomes.

Forgot to say. Raspberries are the best fruit, although cherries are definitely a serious contender. They are fabulous both raw and cooked unlike some others strawberries.

Never been keen on cherries.

Agree with pp that technically my favourite fruit is tomato.

But otherwise:

Strawberries
Raspberries
Peaches / nectarines
Honeydew melon

My 1st choice goes to - Cherries - I've a 7' tall black cherry tree called Sunburst which is absolutely gorgeous, but tend not to get many as the wasps seems to like them too much.

ATM, they're about a £1 from either Lidl or Aldi for a small punnet. I buy 3 to eat one at a time. There's an Aldi Best for £2.49 which I haven't yet tried.

2nd - Raspberries - a purple variety that's super sweet called Glen Coe (clump-forming, not a runner like the normal red ones)

3rd - Sharon fruit - love these very much. I can't seem to find them that often.

4th - Lychees - too expensive but juicy and fragrant.

5th - Loganberry - like the above, but "meatier" and less sweet, but still good - expensive

Cherries are good, but there's all the spitting out of stones to contend with.

I'd go raspberries, strawberries ( but only English and in season, preferably in a brown paper bag from the market) and Victoria plums.

Cherries and peaches top 5.

I’ve just bought a cherry pitter this week to remove the stones - it’s my new favourite gadget!

absolutely love cherries

You can rent a cherry tree in Kent apparently. they do the work and you go down and pick when you tell them to. Dd's just come back from her boyfriend's with a huge amount.

Yes, my boss does this and went to pick his cherries the weekend before last

No evidence of it though

softmauve · 22/07/2024 19:27

username47985 · 22/07/2024 19:46

Watermelon is my absolute favourite

Cherries

Fresh in summer when they are in season, hopefully enough to lay some down in sugar and brandy ready for Christmas. Mmmmm
