I thought she looked fabulous, but my question is about her hair and chemo. If she is having chemo wouldn’t she have lost her hair?
I don’t know perhaps not everyone loses their hair with chemo 🤷‍♀️
It didn’t look to me look she was wearing a wig.
I thought she looked very well and was glad to see her out and about.

My Grandad had Alopecia Totalis for years before he had cancer. Not so much as a single eyelash on his body.

He had to start shaving during chemo as it started to grow back. Not everyone loses hair.

She's the healthiest looking seriously ill person I've seen.

Direct quote from your OP 'If she has had Chemo wouldn't she have lost her hair?' That clearly implies you are questioning if she has had Chemotherapy. I consider that very unkind.

I agree, I read it exactly the same. Glad you clarified OP and it’s lovely to see her looking so well.

I agree. I sometimes despair of Mumsnet and the vile comments made. It needs calling out every single time.

AnnieMcFanny · 14/07/2024 20:21

If that’s the case then I think you probably have to get out more.

I don't think it has ever been claimed she is that seriously ill. When she made her announcement about her health, she said the chemo was 'precautionary'.

I do peloton fitness classes with an instructor called Leanne
She taught all the way through her chemotherapy for breast cancer and nobody had a clue until she posted about it

Dame Deborah looked amazing.

TinklySnail · 14/07/2024 20:47

She looked wonderful, real hair or not. The applause she got was fantastic.

I thought I saw a picture of her with shortish hair as she had donated her hair to a charity . Or am I dreaming! I thought she looked very frail as in so thin. Poor family have been through a lot.

doublec · 14/07/2024 20:58

Like other posters have said, losing one's hair is solely dependent on not only what type of chemotherapy drug one has, but whether one uses a cold cap. Additionally, there are many different types of chemotherapy drugs, not all will cause hair loss because they do not target rapidly dividing cells such as the ones that form our hair. Regrettably, chemotherapy used for both breast cancer and ovarian cancer do target these cells, hence hair loss.

My friend and I both had breast cancer. We also both had doxorubicin, a chemo drug that does cause hair loss, usually on day 10 of the first infusion. However, my friend used a cold cap and kept her hair. It didn't even thin. I did not use a cold cap and lost 85/90% of my hair, although surprisingly, it did start to regrow. When I moved on to a different chemo drug - docetxel - I lost pretty much the rest of my hair within days. Thankfully, my hair started to regrow a few weeks later and continued to do so for the rest of my treatment. However, I feel certain that if like my friend I would have cold capped, I would not have lost my hair. But I did not, and chose not to wear a wig either.

Without knowing the PoW's kind of cancer or chemotherapy drugs, it is impossible to comment about if she lost her hair/used a cold cap etc etc. What I do know is that over the past year, I met several women who had amazing wigs made from real hair, ones I did not even clock were wigs until they told me.

Do you actually, genuinely, think she’s lying about having chemo? If so, have the courage of your convictions and say so, instead of bitch-plopping on threads about her with your nasty sly insinuations.

littlbrowndog · 14/07/2024 20:59

My sis hair grew back curly. She never used the cold cap. Cancer free now for 5 years 🥳🥳🥳🥳

MrsKwazi · 14/07/2024 21:00

She is very thin. So good to see her, hope she is ok.

Wow. Really?!

You'd have said the same about me.

Cancer doesn't always make someone look ill or be ill. Unfortunately, chemotherapy can - the treatment for cancer can often be far harder on the body than the cancer itself. When I was unwell from chemo, I did not go out. No-one saw me. And if I needed to go somewhere to socialise, I made sure I was well-rested beforehand, and the occasion was at a point in the chemo cycle when the effects had worn off. I have no doubt it is exactly the same for PoW.

doublec · 14/07/2024 21:07

One more thing - PoW's was wearing short sleeves today. I couldn't see a PICC line which makes me think she's finished chemo. I really hope she has. Chemo is horrible, I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

That’s a shitty thing to say.

None of us know what’s wrong with her, rightly so. It’s a good thing that she’s looking well. She’s got 3 children who need her.

King Charles has also undergone cancer treatment and also appears to retained his hair. It isn't a given for all chemo.

Yes, but he's a man so no judging, innit 😉

Emmanuelll · 14/07/2024 21:15

She looked happier and healthier than the last appearance - hopefully she's getting better.

TubeScreamer · 14/07/2024 21:31

As has been said many times before, not all forms of chemo make you lose your hair.

I had chemo, and didn’t lose any hair.

she looked amazing, which is great.

GingerPirate · 14/07/2024 21:31

I was very interested in this, but worried it would be distasteful to ask.
I have never known anyone not to lose hair with chemo, or at least not to have a short hair cut.
My hair is very thin due to thyroid issues, but possible to "mask" at the moment.
It's good to see Catherine around looking well and it's a relief to know that wigs nowadays are on another level, I'm pretty sure given time I'll be inquiring about one. 😊

Jennywren8 · 14/07/2024 21:46

Ask me anything. I had chemo for BC and didn't lose my hair as I used a cold cap. It was quite hard going but I didn't want my very young children to be scared or embarrassed by my appearance so I braved it and had a reasonably good amount of hair at the end. I also got a very well made wig courtesy of the NHS just in case.
