His security team don’t seem well organised - he has his head up for quite a while afterwards, so would have been quite a clear shot again during those seconds! One of the bodyguards waved his hand above him in slightly ineffectual manner at that point, surely there are times when someone needs to be bundled straight off for their own safety.

I don't believe that Trump set this up.

However, I've just seen the image taken by that photographer who runs to the left hand side of the dais in the footage. Trump is surrounded by secret service agents, there is blood streaming down his face, he looks defiant and, the cherry on the cake, there is an American flag flapping in the background. It is a fantastic image. It's going to win him the election.
