I've got £500 to spend as I please, on myself. But I can't think what to buy, maybe a new coffee machine (but not sure what type). What would you buy for £100-500?

I'd buy tickets for Wimbledon next year, or Chelsea Flower Show, or similar, plus train tickets and or overnight. Something I've always wanted to do but don't have the money to.

£50 for a rescue dog. Don't endorse greeders 🙄

I'd love a rescue puppy, but seems to be an impossible task to find a puppy at all and then be allowed to have one since I've never owned a dog.

Tiffany bracelet

I was recently given the same amount with the instruction to spend it on myself - it’s so hard!!!! I ended up getting a new pair of glasses (first pair in 5 years!) and have booked a spa day with the rest 😘

Annual membership to a hotel swimming pool & spa

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 14/07/2024 07:39

I’d go with either a really good pair of sunglasses, or one of those hair zapping machines.

EliflurtleAndTheInfiniteMadness · 14/07/2024 07:41

New phone

Sgtmajormummy · 14/07/2024 07:49

A free standing induction range cooker I’ve had my eye on for a while. But then I’d have to spend more on reworking the units around it.
Just for me? A set of EarPods and a waterproof watch for holidays.

Don’t get a fancy coffee machine, OP. We have a Gaggia Brera and it’s a PITA, there’s always something that needs doing (single brain cell so only one warning light at a time) and when it goes into standby mode it pumps out about a liter of water, often flooding its tiny drip tray.
If it didn’t make good coffee I’d smash it with a hammer!

DeathMetalMum · 14/07/2024 07:52

Possibly an IPL machine, but more likely that I'd buy some concert tickets.

RandomUsernameHere · 14/07/2024 07:54

What are your hobbies/interests? If it were me I'd spend it on stuff for my hobby. Coffee machine also sounds a good idea.

ATribeCalledQuestion · 14/07/2024 07:54

Robot hoover.

MerryMarys · 14/07/2024 07:56

Pay back my mortgage or put into savings account!

Yirk · 14/07/2024 07:59

Some firm to come and deep clean my carpets and my home, that would make me soooo happy.
Anything left would like a pair of comfy shoes !

Doodlebugbop · 14/07/2024 08:08

I've recently been given £1750 with the instruction to treat myself, I've spent £450 on a top spec second hand laptop so far.

It's a lot of money to me and the guilt of spending it on something frivolous is ruining the pleasure.

What I should do is leave it in my bank so it's there for emergencies or the months when I don't earn enough and go into my overdraft.

Spaceracers · 14/07/2024 08:08

Expensive bedding, a facial and a night away for me - id budget permits!

SwearMore · 14/07/2024 08:15

Nothing, yet.

I would just leave it until what you really want comes to mind/reveals itself.

MerryMarys · 14/07/2024 08:17

Exactly - wait until you really want/need something!

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 14/07/2024 08:42

A night in London.
I would buy a last minute bargain ticket for a show, and mooch around Liberty to spend the rest on extravagant stuff. Perfume, note book, lunch with a glass of bubbly etc.

Laser hair removal

AbstemiousBreakfast · 14/07/2024 08:52

A really good pair of small binoculars to have in my bag all the time.

GingerLiberalFeminist · 14/07/2024 08:57

Save half, spend 250. Maybe a cashmere jumper for winter.

hollyblueivy · 14/07/2024 09:28

I'd go on a trip.

A personal trainer

Oh yes this too.

What would the person who gave the money to you say if you told them you'd actually saved £1,000, and that this emergency fund will give you some valuable peace of mind?

I'm sure they'd be happy.

Much better use of the money than buying overpriced sunglasses or cashmere jumpers!
