www.vanityfair.com/news/2022/07/jd-vance-violent-marriages

Vance claimed that divorce inflicts terrible harm on children and that it would be better for people in unhappy marriages to stay together, even if said marriages are “violent.”

L1ttledrummergirl · 15/07/2024 22:08

This is not good for the world. I hope Starmer and Europe are ready to go it alone when America turns it's back on the world and civilisation.

Vance has also been a vocal opponent of US funding for Ukraine in its defense against Russia’s invasion. He told Bloomberg News a recent Russian missile attack on a children’s hospital in Kyiv didn’t change his views.”

Putin will be happy

Evenstar · 15/07/2024 22:21

I saw someone say earlier that we may come to regret leaving the EU if there is a Trump presidency. I have hope that we won’t be as isolated as we would have been under the Conservatives. We need to be building stronger relationships with Europe as fast as possible.

Zonder · 15/07/2024 22:47

On a totally different note, is this new? All our pics in one place!

That’s so cool. I hadn’t noticed that before, it must be new. Thanks @Zonder.

newnamethanks · 15/07/2024 22:49

It's astonishing to me that USA spent the post ww2 years being terrified of Russia and all its doings, McCarthyism, CIA all over the place combating USSR funding and influence, reds under the beds paranoia, etc. Yet now they are handing the political control of their country to their long time enemies via Trump. It is utterly mind-boggling to me.

Look I'm just putting this here because I don't want to start a whole new thread elsewhere, but has anyone else noticed that there's more than the usual number of loony tunes threads on here tonight?

Not (ostensibly) political btw

Zonder · 15/07/2024 23:19

About anything in particular @tobee ?

tobee · 16/07/2024 00:24

Yes there was a bizarre thread asking whether anyone had had male babies after procreating with males (!) since the Covid vaccine and was there some attempt to stamp out the male population!!!! It's been deleted I think.

And then another one about a visitor farting in their bungalow and how to mention it next time they met!!!

And a few other weird comments etc. Maybe it's the rain?

newnamethanks · 16/07/2024 05:59

Full moon?

Zonder · 16/07/2024 06:44

MN is quite a weird place sometimes! I did notice several threads were about paedophiles last night.

Zonder · 16/07/2024 07:38

I've just read about this on twitter so searched for the Companies House record. Interesting to read it in black and white, that Reform UK actually is the Brexit party under a new name.

Rayner on the media rounds this morning.

The more I listen to her the more I realise how brilliant she is.

Spandauer · 16/07/2024 08:14

Has anyone told Keir?

Apparently, according to Vance, the Republican VP nominee, the UK is the first "truly Islamic state to get a nuclear weapon since Labour got in"ConfusedShock

How to say "I'm ignorant" using other words.

BIossomtoes · 16/07/2024 08:15

Oh dear. 🥺

DuncinToffee · 16/07/2024 08:16

Almost a third snap

He aslso called for the end of all US support for Ukraine as it has "nothing to do with our national security, [and] no American interest is served by our intervention"

It will be interesting to see how the Tory leader candidates will respond to this

absquatulize · 16/07/2024 08:18

Also for the avoidance of doubt, there is nothing wrong with being Muslim, I have some wonderful Muslim friends.

I am also not sure why if some countries can have nuclear weapons a majority muslim one should not be allowed.

If the war in Ukraine has taught us anything Nuclear weapons are a deterrent, especially against US threats. And I say that as someone who is unconvinced that the UK nuclear weapons are worth the money.

This summary made be laugh out loud. Good start to the day & took my mind of Putin.

Notonthestairs · 16/07/2024 08:31

I saw reported somewhere yesterday that David Lammy has spoken to Vance twice in the last few days so I hope the rhetoric behind the scenes is less inflammatory and uninformed.
I think Vance's views on abortion, IVF, divorce etc are far more extreme than Trump's.
He has also commented previously that he would have done what Pence failed to do on January 6th - help him seize power.

Essentially they have a super MAGA ticket - fewer rights for women and much more isolationist.

We certainly need to build on our relationships with our neighbours. Thats where our focus should be.

Notonthestairs · 16/07/2024 08:32

Vance in 2022 - just casually outlining a coup.
