There is no doubt he did it. No case of mistaken identity. He’s taken 3 lives. He should be executed.

a young man who was depressed and under a lot of pressure and decided to deal with that pressure by raping a child.

Sorry, what?

Thevelvelletes · 10/07/2024 20:47

It won't happen and it's better that these types are kept alive and served whole life tariffs
Imagine never seeing the sea again or walking barefoot across grass, going where you want, enjoying relationships, and a whole lot more that we take for granted.
That's the punishment.

No because it will be all over in a flash, let him live in a cage for 50-60 years. Much worse punishment

Yes I'm sure he'll suffer with sky tv, 3 meals a day and love letters from the deluded ones...

If someone locked you up with violent and traumatised people, you couldn't go out, couldn't see your family and friends when you wanted to, couldn't have relationships with anyone of the opposite sex, had to listen to noise all the time, would you see that as a punishment?

Honestly, five minutes in a UK prison and your nerves are twanging. It's horrible. No amount of SkyTV and prison food makes it a great time.

InfoSecInTheCity · 10/07/2024 20:48

While I appreciate the sentiment and the anger people feel towards these kind of criminals, I just can't get past the hypocrisy of killing someone because they killed someone. It's the same as parents who hit their children to teach them not to hit other people.

JustAVeryWeirdWoman · 10/07/2024 20:49

It's a very slippery slope to give the state permission to kill people. Why do you trust politicians and governments that much that you would put your very right to live in their hands? Why are you so certain they would never kill YOU or someone you care about?

Countries that have the death penalty usually kill people for a variety of offenses, not just murder but also treason, mutiny, espionage or even homosexuality. Do you have any idea how easy it is to be accused of treason or espionage by a hostile or dictatorial government? Are you 100% sure that the UK will always be a democracy led by politicians you agree with, and that you will never need to protest against them or oppose them?

viques · 10/07/2024 20:51

Whole life tariff. Imagine spending the rest of your life until you are a shambling old broken down creature with dementia, in an airless, echoing, noisy, stinking environment, living in one grim room, not being able to even open the window, ,possibly having to share with someone else, wearing a cheap uniform, never going out for another meal, or cinema, or walk in the park, no holidays, no Christmas, never choosing your own food, showering with other people and their filthy habits. Living with ignorant , violent nasty people, always having to watch out you don’t upset them.

Now that is what I want to happen to someone who thinks it’s ok to tie up three women and shoot them with a crossbow.

BowlOfNoodles · 10/07/2024 20:51

OhHelloMiss · 10/07/2024 20:34

I would like to see some Biblical-style vengeance.

Would you now? Perhaps you can expand on that? Are you expecting myself and my colleagues to dish that out for you then?

Like 50 lashings 😂

Paulrn · 10/07/2024 20:53

It costs £47,000 a year to keep a prisoner in Jail, so yes for cases where there is no doubt why lat them have any sort of life.

Unfortunately it's not like that for example it was exposed that rose west was allowed to pick her own paint colour, watches strictly come dancing, is allowed to bake cakes ( apparently she's a brilliant Baker lol ) all sorts of privileges and protection. Joanna dennahey ( think that's her name) was shipped outta to prison for saying she wanted a confrontation with rose!

All of the above is the punishment and the reality of prison life.
Not the it's a holiday camp myth perpetuated in the media.

MrsTerryPratchett · 10/07/2024 20:55

To all of those saying, "when there is no doubt"; the UK justice system is based on 'beyond a reasonable doubt' which means there should never be a miscarriage of justice. Ever. Because they are all convicted 'beyond a reasonable doubt'. But we know there are, and more for poor people, black people and mentally ill people.

So you want there to be a 'BEYOND beyond a reasonable doubt' level. You see how that is nonsense, right?

How do you know he did it? I bet that line has been said in the cases of many wrongly executed people.

LaurieFairyCake · 10/07/2024 20:57

He won't get out

And he will die in there

That poor dad, words can't express how sad I feel for him Flowers

Because killing them is more expensive. It takes years with appeal after appeal. It can easily take 20 to 30 years and will all the additional legal procedures, the dealth penalty is simply more expensive than life in prison.

Furthermore, why do you want to turn prison-guards into killers? Because that would be the effect. Someone will have to carry out that death penalty.

user99300001 · 10/07/2024 20:57

Why should he have a nice death with a lethal injection just drift off to sleep when people who are terminally ill and suffering can't with euthanasia.
Let them rot in prison and hopefully their crimes haunt them for the rest of their lives and the other prisoners torture them - much worse than a lethal injection.

LaurieFairyCake · 10/07/2024 20:59

"A society should be judged by how it treats its criminals"

All the thickos calling for capital punishment ought to ruminate on Dostoyevsky's words Hmm

MollyMoonshine · 10/07/2024 21:01

moonlightwatch · 10/07/2024 19:57

That's not what it's like though 🤷🏼‍♀️😬

No, and that's a pity.

Lwrenn · 10/07/2024 21:01

I suspect he will never be released and I welcome that as a punishment for his disgusting crime.
I don't want the state choosing who lives and dies. It's just not what I want for society. I don't care if these people die, it would be disingenuous of me to say I felt sad hearing about the death of Richard huckle or Fred West, I didn't at all, I just don't think the state should decide.
I'm not saying I want prisoners murdered either, I just don't think prison is a safe place and there will always be targets on people who are the most depraved. I think that's something that needs a huge amount of work and funding to secure prisoners are safer and the reality is, people will not take kindly to the money needed to change prison culture being spent when their granny has been left 14 hours on a stretcher in a&e and nurses are using food banks.

I do struggle with sentencing being so lenient, particularly in cases of child abuse. Somebody I knew a very long time ago recently had a suspended sentence despite having over 10k category 1 and 2 child sexual abuse images on his devices. He may not directly have touched a child but by viewing that content he is complicit in the abuse of every single one of those children.
But we've seen time and time again from chemical castration it does not work and children are put into even worse and dangerous situations. They're often raped with objects which are far more physically catastrophic than a penis.
There does need to be a deterrent, I'm personally a fan of a whole life taffif for people who can't be rehabilitated.

Edited

Actually a medical profession gives the injection prison guards are not trained and there for not allowed. You say that but it costs us annually as tax payers too keep this scum alive in a prison. I mean prisoners aren’t kept in prisons for free are they? Soo yeah give them the lethal injection, wasting money allowing them to live.

Paulrn · 10/07/2024 21:02

For those of you who say prison is a punishment think on, yes it’s not the life you could have but it is life, people become institutionalised and used to the daily routine in time it becomes not so bad, I do not believe a cold blooded murderer deserves even this life, and I’m happy to stand by that.

OneBadKitty · 10/07/2024 21:02

I don't believe in the death penalty- they should torture them instead and make them suffer for the rest of their lives!

Nice to have some likeminded discussion 😊
