And how soon" competition.

My money's on David Lammy by February.

Lammy called some on the right, and some in his own party "dinosaurs who want to hoard rights"

He wasn't referring to all women or GC women even.

It's misrepresentation and very tedious.

Yet he was very reluctant to say exactly who these dinosaurs are though, wasn't he?. if you read the transcript of the interview its just obfuscation from start to finish.

When it comes to sex v gender whose rights would he be referring to?

Women who don’t consent to men having access or who?

I agree with you btw

And the first person to lose their job is Ben Habib, deputy leader of Reform. It didn’t specify MP in the OP! Tice has been handed the job and Habib is not happy.

Blimey, that didn’t take long! 😂

Hoppinggreen · 11/07/2024 13:11

Brown person treated badly by Reform?
Who would have thought?

IClaudine · 11/07/2024 13:16

Hahaha. Reform UK PLC is beginning to unravel already!

If thwarted expectation of continuity of a role counts, Emily Thornberry is the first loser over the line. From Wiki:

With the Labour landslide and the formation of the Starmer ministry, Thornberry was not appointed a minister and returned to the backbenches.[87]Thornberry was not appointed Attorney General for England and Wales as expected as she had held the position of Shadow Attorney General for six years under Starmer and Ed Miliband.[88] The role was given to Richard Hermer who was given a life peerage.[89]Thornberry was reportedly disappointed by this alleged snub.[90] This ended eight and a half years of frontbench service.[91]

I really can’t say I’m disappointed by that.

Did anyone say he didn’t say that? What an odd post.

Shame you can’t take that positivity online.

That's quite funny. I comment to another poster that there's no point engaging with some posters on here, due to their arguments, and you think I'm lacking positivity? It's being able to distance myself from your arguments that helps me stay positive online. Santé 🍻

So women some on the right and some in his own party, therefore center left, who wanted to keep their rights were hoarding dinosaurs.

A political cross section of women who wouldn't share women's rights with others were both unacceptably not sharing their rights and too old to see the error of their ways?

Is there another way to interpret this?

Was he not saying that women shouldn't have female only rights anymore and insisting on current legal protections was outdated wrong thinking.

He simply wouldn't say that about any other group that has specific legal protections.

Good to bring us back on topic too. Thanks @noblegiraffe

Why comment about my posts at all? It was my posts you were referring to yes?

Let your headspace be free from attacking random mners online. I thought the GE would mean less caustic replies and more positivity rather than same old attacks

Luckily I’m feeling good if your intention was the opposite.

samedifferent · 11/07/2024 14:23

As much as David Lammy annoys me.

I would bet on Reform being the first party to collapse.

Not just your posts but if the cap fits...

The comment was to say it's not worth engaging with some arguments since they often don't even make sense or have anything to do with the original OP - we have a chance to be back on track now with the interesting news from Reform. Let's try and stick to the OP instead of sabotaging so many threads with a single issue that most people didn't vote on

I'm still wondering how they actually even count as a party - their leadership positions don't exactly happen democratically!

He said nothing about the sex of the politicians involved Confused
So many assumptions around what he said. He didn't give names so we don't know who he meant.

CassieMaddox · 11/07/2024 15:07

Here's the quote from the original event...
Shadow Justice Secretary David Lammy has told a Labour Party conference fringe event when discussing trans rights this morning that “there are some dinosaurs on the right” and also that “those dinosaurs exist in our own party” who want to “hoard rights”.

Asked at a fringe meeting today about the ongoing conflict in the party over the rights of transgender people, he said there is “always a debate when you’re extending rights to people who have been denied them for so long”.

Lammy told the event that the “great story of the 20th century is “people who had no rights claiming those rights” – including the working class on the factory floor, and those fighting for LGBT rights and BME rights.
labourlist.org/2021/09/anti-trans-members-are-dinosaurs-who-want-to-hoard-rights-says-lammy/
No mention of women.

WPUK transcript has this:
Nick Robinson: Yesterday you described women, some women, in the Labour Party, in the country perhaps, as dinosaurs. Who were you calling a dinosaur?
David Lammy: Well, actually, if you go back to the quote, it was not in relation to women.

Yet somehow this has metamorphosed into he is a misogynist who says women are dinosaurs hoarding their rights.

It's boring old nonsense being regurgitated by anti-Labour sources
