What's the point of bloody sex scenes? Is there a single film that's genuinely needed one?

They're everywhere. I'm just waiting for the next bloody Harry Potter film to be Harry Potter And The Beast With Two Backs.

What's the point of them? I've never watched a film in my life where I've gone ahh, well, i was a bit confused but now i saw that bit of sweaty nudity and theatrical groaning I totally get the characters and the plot.

It's ridiculous. I'm watching a film and all of a sudden I've got two naked professional fakers writhing around on screen for no discernable reason.

This is in chat not aibu because I'm not. I bet none of you can name a film that badly needed us to see the characters fucking.

Porn films are obviously excluded. I accept that without the sex, we simply won't understand why the pizza delivery guy was happy not getting £18.95 for the cheese crust large ham and pineapple.

I was going to make a joke about stuffed crust but I'm a better person than that.

Without a sex scene in The Meaning of Life, the 'Growth & Learning' section just would not have worked.

No one makes the stupid squeaky noises that Claire makes in Outlander in real life!

Game of thrones had a lot of basically unnecessary sex and nudity, but there were also a few explicit scenes that were actually required for the plot - eg: a character sees two others having sex, etc.

Fellow Travelers. The most extraordinary, compelling, heartrending television I have ever seen. The sex scenes are intrinsic to the storytelling. Truthful, brutal, vulnerable, tender, exquisitely beautiful.

Haven't read the whole thread but I do agree with you.

However, this is only because I find it hard to find suitable films that DS11 can watch, either by himself or with us.

He's nearly 12, but is finding a lot of 12 rated films a bit boring or young. I do let him watch some 15 films but I have to research or watch them first. And I'm now finding that so many films that would interest him have unnecessary sex scenes that really have no benefit to the movie.
