What's the point of bloody sex scenes? Is there a single film that's genuinely needed one?

They're everywhere. I'm just waiting for the next bloody Harry Potter film to be Harry Potter And The Beast With Two Backs.

What's the point of them? I've never watched a film in my life where I've gone ahh, well, i was a bit confused but now i saw that bit of sweaty nudity and theatrical groaning I totally get the characters and the plot.

It's ridiculous. I'm watching a film and all of a sudden I've got two naked professional fakers writhing around on screen for no discernable reason.

This is in chat not aibu because I'm not. I bet none of you can name a film that badly needed us to see the characters fucking.

Porn films are obviously excluded. I accept that without the sex, we simply won't understand why the pizza delivery guy was happy not getting £18.95 for the cheese crust large ham and pineapple.

I was going to make a joke about stuffed crust but I'm a better person than that.

Having lived through the gratuitous sex scenes of 70s/80s films I've had enough. If I want to see sex I'll watch porn, otherwise I'd prefer it if there was a seriously good plot and script.

Clearly you've not all watched Outlander....

Jesus Christ, English women are so repressed. Don't you ever get horny? Most of us like watching sex scenes because they're hot. A bunch of sexless prudes on here.

Nope. Never. Lie back, think of England, pull me nightie down when you're done, don't wipe your knob on the curtains, let's put a date in the diary for six months time, make me a cup of tea.

With one tea bag.

As a rule I dislike sex scenes. I'm pretty much always jarred back to reality and I just see two people acting. That's just my personal take.

But curiously, my dog is a prude. The minute two people start getting it on, she ups and leaves the room. Every time.

OddBoots · 08/07/2024 20:01

It would be good if Netflix etc had some kind of logo to say there were no explicit scenes and it was safe to watch with your parents etc.

AdviceNeeded2024 · 08/07/2024 20:01

@Ihopeithinkiknow do you have a link or anything to this on YouTube? I love the disaster artist with James Franco (it’s about Tommy Wisesu, if you haven’t seen it and is very good) and I am desperate to watch the room but can’t find it anywhere when I look!

Don 't Look Now - shows the grieving couple's renewed intimacy
The Big Easy - shows the couple's chemistry which causes Anne's conflict of interest
Out of sight - was a shameless steal of Don't Look Now

I agree and why do the women leave their bras on??? Dp remarks every time.

I always leave my bra on! I think it’s weird to think of taking it off 😅

Inamechangedjustforthis · 08/07/2024 20:25

I thought all the lesbian shagging in the film where Kate Winslet finds fossils was fab.

3luckystars · 08/07/2024 20:27

That sounds amazing!! What’s the name of it??

YouJustDoYou · 08/07/2024 20:28

Because men.

DazedNotConfused1 · 08/07/2024 20:28

Normal people, Nymphomaniac 1 and 2, Diary of a teenage girl. My brain is failing to think of more but I’m sure there are others where it does add to the story.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 08/07/2024 20:37

Although you may think that 'Dicks on of Dock Green' will be jam packed with sex scenes, surprisingly it isn't.
Whereas 'The Flowerpot Men' is a down-to-earth exposé of two grubby individuals and their interaction with drugs (Weed) and a gardener...

MorrisZapp · 08/07/2024 20:39

I've started an entire thread about the horror that is Horizon: A Western Saga. Truly the worst sex scene in history. It made a terrible film excruciating.

SecondhandTable · 08/07/2024 18:08

Totally agree! So many are just beyond cringey and the 'male gaze' is awful too. We usually see so much more of women than men and the inequality really annoys me.

Veronica Mars film. He has his shirt off and talked at length about getting fit for the scene (he lifts his co-star up). She is pretty much clothed and didn't. Refreshing, honestly.

I've always found it interesting OP, that in order of complaints received by broadcasters it goes:

  1. Swearing
  2. Sex
  3. Violence

In term of harm it is exactly opposite. Why do people care about swearing and sex when violence is actually harmful? A nice, consensual shag? Great.

LivelyMintViper · 08/07/2024 20:42

Cheap footage and lazy scripting!

Chickenuggetsticks · 08/07/2024 20:44

I feel like it’s storyline filler. I’m not a prude particularly but it’s boring. I actually don’t mind a bit of nudity in the sense of, I’m getting ready for work and talking to someone about something that has something to do with the storyline.

Any film that is titled "Dicks On" anything I pretty much expect will be sex filled 😁😁

It depends on the film/show I guess, the sex scene in red white and royal blue is very good and a key plot moment.

Ones that aren’t needed and add nothing like the ones in James Bond are essentially just filling time.

I was trying the speech entry function for the first time, and it should have come out as 'Dixon'.

I know it was supposed to be Dixon but I thought the typo was funny.

It's not a sex scene but the one film that really annoyed me was The Kingsman. Towards the end the character played by Taron Egerton is running around a place where people have been kidnapped and held and the Princess of somewhere or other promises she'll let him give her anal sex if he lets her out (can't remember how it's worded). I absolutely detest that scene. That that's the reason to release her, not because it's the decent human thing to do!!

I know, I know, it's only a film, and a comedy at that but it makes my teeth grate.

I agree about that scene. It was infuriating. I LOVED Kingsmen but that one scene just kinda ruined it.

Youcantellalotofthingsabouttheflowers · 08/07/2024 21:15

Hate them if they are more than a couple of minutes . Outlander did my head in.
