Mine do too - a) because they want independence b) because it's the only party that ever came near to defeating the horrible Tory in the Borders and c) they like Sturgeon.

Labour has always seemed too Glaswegian for my stepmum.

Single issue parties might get power once, but they are so useless once in power they are usually pretty quickly voted out again imo

This is the case with the snp, the tories once they became the brexshit party and - I am very hopeful - deform uk

Have to say, quite pleasing that Tice only won by a few hundred votes...I thought he'd storm it

Once the people of Clacton, Skegness and Ashfield realise what duds they've got I hope that by elections will be called 🙏

With the Lib Dems gaining Inverness, Skye and West Ross-shire, the final result is:

Ah, that's a rerun to the old days of LibDems in the Highlands and Islands. Be nice if the Borders (Steel Land) had gone back that way too.

user8800 · 07/07/2024 11:06

Btw, did any of you see 50p Lee win?

His body language and whole demeanor was OFF...ds and I both commented on it

Maybe he thought he'd lose? Get on the Tzv/after dinner circuit gravy train like farage etc al?

cakeorwine · 07/07/2024 11:07

I am sure that Labour will throw sunshine on Reform policies.
Their tax policies.
Spending policies
Some of their more fringe views on the climate crisis.
Discuss the importance of social care, an ageing population etc
Sunshine is the best disinfectant.

I wonder if the Conservatives will do the same.

Piggywaspushed · 07/07/2024 11:07

I noticed odd body language in his photo with Farage, Tice and the other winner. Farage the only one who looks like he wants his photo taken.

Oh, yes.
The more sunlight shone on these grifters the better

Not the case for SNP who have been in power in Scotland for 17 years, repeatedly succeeding in Scottish elections and general elections.

Thanks. It is a mystery to me why my relatives still vehemently support them.

It’s the independence issue I suspect. My DH is a die hard SNP supporter and it’s largely because he so passionately believes in an independent Scotland.

newnamethanks · 07/07/2024 11:13

Has anyone made a compilation video of Tories losing their seats? Not that I like to gloat but I may need it in moments of future despondency. Didn't see Anderson but the blue loser by a handful of votes in Poole was a picture. He was very miffed.

Yes, probably the same with my lot.

All eyes on Keme Badenoch - Tory party leader front runner but a little local difficulty. Elected with 2610 but 2600 postal ballots didn’t go out because of a foul-up….

Plus the Reform candidate was disowned. Labour have 21 days to push for a re-run. A clean Reform candidate and major tactical voting could oust her….

Moreover she could not stand as party leader unless she is an MP. If this scenario unfolds Kemi Badenoch would not be an MP until the matter is finally and fairly settled which at present it does not appear to be.

It may take a while, but their total uselessness always reveals itself

They’re completely incompetent in power (as shown but the current Scottish Government) and have been riddled with scandal.

They are a stark warning to all monomaniac parties.

Brexit was the Tories nemesis. However it was hardly a trojan fucking horse. Let us briefly (and possibly privately) thank Nigel Farage for delivering on the one promise he made to destroy the Tory party. A party so dim that when the cake with "BOMB" written all over it was offered to them, they said "Cake ? Must be for us !".even as they ripped the "may explode in your face" (in Russian) warning off.

newnamethanks · 07/07/2024 11:28

🤞 I'd be thrilled to wave her goodbye.

SerendipityJane · 07/07/2024 11:30

Remember the slur against Starmer when he suggested he'd keep Fridays special ?

Daily Mail now having kittens because he too a call from Biden after 6pm

"STARMER BREAKS FIRST PLEDGE" is the rather stretched headline.

Jellycatspyjamas · 07/07/2024 11:31

They’ve been totally useless for as long as I can remember - I’m hoping for change in 2026, but not holding my breath.

user8800 · 07/07/2024 11:31

Ds thinks Braverman will get the leadership, and I'm sorry to say I agree

The membership wants far right politics

And I'm not sure the white male potential candidates would give them that (possibly Jenrick?)

Ds thinks that even if braverman gets the leadership and merges with deform, their vote will be capped at 40%

He points out that 60% of the UK voted for progressive/not tory or deform parties last week

The low turnout is probably due to the almost certain labour landslide, which may not he the case in 5 years

I look forward to the deform candidates being booted out by their constituents and the tory party lurching ever more to the far right and becoming unelectable

IClaudine · 07/07/2024 11:33

If Braverman is elected leader there is no way they will win in 2029.

I bet she won't be though.

Well to be fair, they are often "ambushed by cake".

I'd be very surprised if an election petition succeeds, but here's hoping.

I can't remember who mentioned Priti Patel, but I reckon that is a good shout.

Victoria Atkins apparently wants to run as well

There seems to be no reason for the Tories not to continue their totally disastrous policy of not reading the room. Which means I'd have a crafty wager on a 2028 election with Labour winning and LibDems overtaking the Tories.

I please Lord "Frosty" Frost - whose powers of perception and negotiation are legendary around the world - has immediately deigned that it's being "too woke " wot did for the Tories. With insights like that piercing the gloom. I am sure the Tories are in safe hands.

Unless Tim Farron is recalling Agent Frost too ?

RedWinePoliticsAndHair · 07/07/2024 11:43

Signing in for some optimism.
