Its interesting reviewing coverage of both UK and French elections.

The default positions appears to be right wing politicians should be in power - anything else indicates a failure by voters to understand the issues OR a fault in the system.

The natural order has been deposed by the stupid electorate. It is centre and left wing voters fault that the far right is on the march - look what you made us do, why cant you just do as you are told.

I posted quite a bit last week (and for months before) about the overcrowding in prisons. Having zero places in prisons is like having no available hospital beds - a failure of policy planning with dire consequences. Both have been extensively warned about for many years. It means the legal system can't function.

Such is the crisis Labour will now have to follow Conservative plans for early release to create space. There is no other way to handle this problem and have a functioning court system.

But the media are now spinning that as Labour's policy - rather than a very necessary emergency measure caused by chronic and predicted overcrowding.
Its not just shoddy journalism, it is a clear attempt to mislead.

@zonder The latest one I have seen is about Starmer means testing state pensions. Which has been mentioned by Labour absolutely nowhere. And of course the old favourite about Labour wanting uncontrolled immigration.

I feel like this far right populism wave is a movement that loses or gains excitement based on what one country does, so I think Geert Wilders will suffer quite a lot from our results and French results.

Luckily we don't have to listen to the bullshit. Labour has 5 years to sort out the absolute devastation of public services.

Presumably Reeves will be announcing a series of measures such as housebuilding targets that can be introduced by statutory instruments, and then a plan for further legislation in the longer term?

That's why kudos should be given to those parties that steadfastly supported PR, whether or not they were benefitting from FPTP (like the SNP and LibDems).

@AhNowTed.. Where I live new massive tower blocks and housing estates are and have been growing everywhere.

It was said this morning, green belt will be under threat. And yet we also have huge vast new office industrial estates pretty much empty and large office blocks not being used.
I can't see wherever I am (close to London) where more houses will go?

I've also just seen a dentist being interviewed saying, we are in the mess we are in because of labours dentist contracts. Get rid of the those.

@IClaudine - the French system is more akin to STV - but with the advantage that you can change your mind between rounds

The French are used to this and can and do change their minds between rounds, both as a result of seeing who had got a lot of votes and because some parties pull their candidates (because they have to as they didn't reach the threshold or strategically voluntarily)
