…and ended up with a Labour MP (due to splitting the conservative vote), how do you feel?

@amylou8 I’m with you 👌🏻Definitely all that you have said.

@TonTonMacoute
Labour have never given a shit about the countryside
Ain't that the truth. They have no clue about it, don't engage with it, ignore the people who live in it.
As someone on the centre-left who has a fair bit to do with farmers etc, it pisses me off.

@EdithStourton

TBF I don't think the other parties are any better these days. Liberal/Lib Dem and Tory candidates always had close links to their rural constituencies, but too many parliamentary candidates from all parties seem to be young urban PPE graduates who are only interested in the countryside as somewhere to visit for your mental health, to rewind or to cover with renewable energy installations. None of this will bring employment and prosperity to the people who live in rural areas.

The same thing is happening across Europe.

I hate the trend of looking down on others because they voted differently to you. So many superiority complexes seemingly oblivious that when they do this they are attacking democracy.

People have a right to their opinion either way. That includes questioning someones motives to vote a particular way. Or are you attacking free speech now?

This is an interesting debate to find out why people voted for a party which does seem to have its roots in fascism. It's not just happening here, it's happening abroad too, look at France.. rightly or wrongly this does horrify people because the last time a major fascist party came to power..Nazis, Hitler, holocaust,WW2. So you can see how things become emotive.

Attacking democracy would be things such as election rigging or tampering with ballot boxes, autocratic dictator installed to power, disinformation campaigns presented as fact or propaganda. This website is for peoples opinions and it's for people to make up their own minds or do their own research.

100% fine with it! I knew that was the likely result, I just didn't want to use my vote on Labour.

It's my vote, I can do what I want with it, even if you disapprove. 😂

It’s the undertone I don’t like. I can’t her on board with reform or the conservatives but I respect other perspectives. The fact there’s so many secret Tories is uncomfortable for me. Like when Brexit happened and the way people behaved towards those who voted for it. I’ve seen the same kind of superiority complex displayed on so many threads. Having a healthy debate is fine, belittling others and being condescending is not.

I think people did it as they are fed up of Tories and Labour

I’m not a secret Tory. I’m a Labour voter. Asking the question to understand how reform voters feel about Labour if their vote contributed to it by splitting the Tory vote. I would have explained more in my OP but I didn't expect my question to be received in such a negative way. If the same thing had happened to me, for example if I’d have voted green but ended up with a Tory MP, I would have an opinion on that which I would be happy to share 🤷🏼‍♀️

I think on a very basic level the conservatives have sone absolutely nothing to improve the lives of the working people. The people who actually pay for everyone else.
After 14 years the only people to benefit are those who are lucky enough to not have HAVE to work for a living. That includes the incredibly privileged at the top, the Sunaks of this word. Both he and his wife are wealthy not due to hard work but due entirely to inherited wealth. Plus those at the other end who live on benefits and make a choice not to work. The only reason those at the top chose to piss about ‘working’ is for vanity reasons. Those at the other end of the scale don’t work because it would incur losing their benefits.
So, I know this wasn’t the question but nobody who has to work for a living who has a single brain cell would continue to vote for this.
This is not in any way a post designed to support the Reform/Brexit party.

Emmanuelll · 07/07/2024 09:50

@Summerinspringtime it's a myth that people can choose to live on benefits. To be in receipt of benefits you have to prove you're looking for work and if you don't, or you don't accept any job offer, your benefit claim is cancelled.

I didn't vote reform.
But I imagine it's to stick it to the tories who messed around and lost all that support.
People voted Boris in, no one else and yet it seems like a life time ago when he took to the lecturn

And he did a great job 😂.
Actually it was so terrible what he did that I shouldn't laugh

SwingingVoter · 07/07/2024 10:32

@Moonshiners we can all say how awful he was the point being, people voted him in and then got an endless succession of different pm!
