…and ended up with a Labour MP (due to splitting the conservative vote), how do you feel?

Tbf, even Streeting realizes that the NHS won't be fixed by throwing money at it, and that it has its hand out every winter, as though winter pressures are a surprise. So it's going to be interesting to see how he tackles it.

CrispSandwich14 · 05/07/2024 16:02

I voted Reform as they were the best of a bad bunch - wasn't expecting the candidate to win in my area - although I was actually very surprised he came second. I don't think anyone had great expectations this time around, but if Labour mess everything up support for Reform will continue to grow and it might look different by the next election.

Is that because you’re on benefits Jourl? I’m retired - I’ve paid enough tax thank you very much.

And still am - on my small private pension.

HashtagShitShop · 05/07/2024 16:05

I didn't, I voted Labour but my cousin who I enjoy the company of outside of some of her views voted Reform with her husband. We have (thankfully) ended up with a Labour mp after a ridiculous Borisite tory mp.

Cousin and husband are approaching 80s and at obsessed with "kier wants all them foreigners to come on in!" 🤦🏻‍♀️ there really is no arguing with her. She's adamant she's not racist but she sadly is

equisetum · 05/07/2024 16:06

Voted Reform.
Got the expected Labour gain from Conservative.
Totally expected the result.
Not disillusioned as the Reform vote across the UK was excellent.
We are in it for the long haul.
We have up to 5 years of the same or worse shit ahead, but 2029 will shape a better future for my children and grandchildren.

amylou8 · 05/07/2024 16:07

Reform undoubtedly knocked my MP Penny Mordant out.
Lab 14k
Con 13k
Ref 9k

Although I'd rather not have a labour MP or government for the next 5 years, it was inevitable. The Tories could not, nor did they deserve, to win.

Reform have come from nowhere, and on vote share are now the 3rd party. On a PR system they would have over 90 MPs.

It's a long term plan for reform, 3 years ago they didn't exist, they've done amazingly well. We're going to have to suffer Labour now for reform to grow, and they will, potentially in collaboration with a more right wing Tory party. After 5 years of Kier Snore Starmer and his successors. 5 years of high taxes and wokery, 5 years of uncontrolled immigration, the country will be desparate for some proper leadership and direction.

FARAGE 2029 (I'm getting hats printed if anyone is interested 😂😁).

Jourl · 05/07/2024 14:05

I really hope they raise taxes 🙏

Why do you want to pay more taxes? Or do you not pay any at all?

They aren't the best of a bad bunch. They're a bunch of dangerous racists who increase hate.

ZingySquid · 05/07/2024 16:12

I am actually genuinely interested in this thread and not in a haha way, since I am in a safe labour seat and can never get rid of my MP. I didn’t vote Reform, but I am interested in why people did.

Just take a moment to remind yourself of the racists who were called out within the Labour Party....

Oh the irony of you being against immigration but think you're so worthy of doing the same to another country.

CrispSandwich14 · 05/07/2024 16:13

@Yupthatsit I disagree. I have no time for the bad apples, but there are very bad apples in every party.

As many racists in the labour party as Reform? Haha..that's made me laugh.

Cornishclio · 05/07/2024 16:14

I voted Labour and got Labour because Reform took enough votes off our useless Conservative MP to eliminate her 20k majority. Happy days.

Yupthatsit · 05/07/2024 16:13

I think the irony was rather intended, but to illustrate that other countries are far more selective about who they allow to take up residence.

hamstersarse · 05/07/2024 16:17

I voted Reform and am very happy with the outcome. They are not the current Tory party who are barely recognisable as a Conservative Party, they are very different to the Tories so it’s not a protest vote.

I believe a low tax, small state is the optimum for human wellbeing. I don’t believe a nanny welfare state does any individual long term good. Of course, we all need a helping hand sometimes in life and I agree with that, but the culture we have built over time needs a shake up imo.

I don’t believe pouring money into the NHS will solve anything

I don’t think an attack on private schools will solve anything

I don’t think DEI solves anything

I think net zero is an absolute con which will solve nothing but cost every single one of us a lot of money

Reform had a lot of policies that make sense to me, the Tories would have done better if they’d gave literally stolen them. E.g. no income tax for frontline NHS staff for 3 years, free tuition for medical students if they stay in the NHS for 10 years. Vouchers to access private healthcare if NHS times are not met. Income tax threshold of £20k.is also pretty good.

they were also the only party who had policies around supporting farmers which is a personal reason, and farming is an absolute bureaucratic disaster which desperately needs reform and no other party had anything to say about farming.

So I’m happy they’ve got the number of votes fhey did and glad I voted for them,

Amd the fact people think Farage said he supports Andrew Tate just demonstrates how much the propaganda and slander has been successful.

It's a shame people have your mentality instead of looking at how they do things in Finland, for example.

People in this county expect amazing public services but don't want to pay for them. Or they want to keep all their money for themselves and sod society.

Missymoo100 · 05/07/2024 16:15

Because someone with a degree is more worthy of being able to move countries? Fuck no. A decent human being should always be more worthy.

Yes I’m against completely open immigration. I’m against us letting in just ANYONE. I am not against letting in worthwhile folks who work and pay taxes and contribute to society. But this country gives a British passport, benefits, a home and nhs access to anyone who sets foot on our soil the second they arrive. It has to stop.

my point was that I, as a decent member of society am trapped here because other countries do what we should be doing. Meanwhile I’m paying for all of the reprobates that arrive every day because we offer any Tom, Dick and Harry the world for nothing. Make it make sense.

pavillion1 · 05/07/2024 16:21

i knew that voting reform would still end up with a labour government. Even reform knew that it would be a labour win .
What it has done is get them into Parliament. That was what they hoped for . its a win win .

You could do with reading more about the subject as you aren't correct in what you're saying.
