OMG I'm so FUCKING BORED of hearing about that 'there's no money' JOKE memo. Get over it everyone. The fact people are still dragging that out 14 years later just shows how little they actually have to criticise.

God me too. If a Tory had done that everyone would have already forgotten.

nagasakiSunset · 04/07/2024 22:41

My Ds and all his friendship group/work friends voted. These are 19/20 year olds . He told me that so many of them have had a really shit few years and seen their parents having to use food banks regularly etc and they feel they can’t exactly complain about things if they aren’t going to vote! So they did and I’m hoping the turnout figures are reflecting other young people feeling the same and wanting change !

What happens if Labour shadow cabinet members lose their seats ? I know it’s unlikely but just curious.

Or even if Keir Starmer lost his seat ?!

Keir Starmer is not going to lose his seat.

Some of his shadow cabinet may… Thangam Debbonaire may lose to the greens. He’ll have plenty of MPs to select his cabinet from regardless.

Andrew RT Davies (head Tory in Wales) on Welsh BBC slagging off Sunak 😂
thoroughly enjoyable bit of telly

Hearing Alistair Campbell correct Nadine Dorries "less" to "fewer" was my favourite clip so far.

Watching channel 4, picture of George Galloway, as Rochdale is obviously one to keep an eye on, I swear to god I can smell that manky fucking hat of his through the screen. Twat.

DS and I (he is 18) went to vote together. DD 19 went later. They both said that all of their friends are voting as they have all realised the reality of poverty and the state of the NHS. DS said that his college have had to reduce their financial support for impoverished students as there are just so many of them that need it, so they decided to give less to more rather than give nothing to some. They are all voting labour. I think that they may be one of the first truly polictically motivated young generations since the 60's.

I really hope then that this is the reason turnout is high ! I’m sure it is 🤞

Reform aren't an opposition. Conservatives are an opposition. Libdems also. Greens would be if they get any bloody seats. These are parties with a clear rationale who can hold government to account. Reform, like all fascists, do not have a clear rationale. They will be noisy and obstructive for sure, but simply acting in a negative way in the legislative chamber does not constitute a political opposition

I did laugh at the notion that, "[PARTY] would be an opposition if they got any seats" 😂.

I understand, though; I'd also be a gold medalist if I had any sporting ability.

HauntedBungalow · 04/07/2024 22:53

All the young people I know are really politically energised. They even squat, which is something that kind of fell by the wayside with millennials I think. This lot are pretty direct. A lot of them vote Green, a fair few vote Labour. They all give a shit though.

LOL you know what I mean. Greens poll far higher than the number of seats they get, they'll be lucky to even get five, but because they have a consistent and coherent ideology and structure they can do the job that an opposition needs to do. Just probably will not get the chance to do it.

I'll be so unhappy if my Labour MP doesn't keep the seat.
I voted Labour.

DD and all her friends voted, either Labour or Green. I think they've had so much shit thrown at them the last few years it's lit a fire under their arses to get out and vote.

They’re going to have to use food banks even more with all the tax rises that are on the way.

Everyone I know is NOT voting Labour myself included.

I think this will be another brexit vote. Everyone so sure it's going to go one way and it doesn't

And do you know why it doesn't, because anyone who feels different or may still want to vote Conservative or reform get battered down so much they keep their mouths shut and stick to what they want to do.

I don't think it's going to be a labour landslide

Edited

….. 🤔

Nope. Their worst will still be better than the Tories' best.

ijustneedtokeepbreathing · 04/07/2024 23:10

Not nervous. Just a bit wistful and uncomfortable. Imagine what would be possible with a genuinely excellent party leader.

Including one who was unafraid to take a stance on protecting women and girls' rights.

Angela Raynor is a fucking inspiration. from her background to get to where she has - amazing. bloody brilliant and the fact it may annoy reform cultists all the better.

She's a vile foul mouthed hypocrite! Also having met KS in a non political setting more than once all i can say is what you see on tv is most certainly not what you get in person and be careful what you wish for!

AnotherbutcoolerJaneAusten · 04/07/2024 23:18

@lovelysunshine22 well the KS wishing has already happened and I guess we’ll find out what he’s like!

FFS 51% turnout and reform in 2nd place in Sunderland South.

Yes ok the headline is labour landslide but this story that seems secondary - low turnout, big fascist vote - is going to be key over the next decade.

I’m so pleased you heard this too. I mentioned this on another thread and couldn’t believe it. I kept asking DH if I had misheard the 11,000 Reform votes. I’m appalled. I really am!
