Help with funeral music please

My Mum’s funeral is soon as we are struggling to find a nice piece of music to be played as people enter the crematorium.
Mum and Dad weren't particularly ‘into’ popular music. they liked shows and musicals, but we don’t want something upbeat for the entry music. Mum was 84.
Any suggestions please?

“Gabriel’s Oboe” by Ennio Morricone , it was the theme tune for the film The Mission .

Also would suggest the piano music of Ludovico Einaudi , there are lots to choose from - I like White Night , and Nuvole Bianchi which is slightly more up tempo.

I think “Smile” would be lovely too . 💐 xx

In Paradisum from Faure's Requiem.

This is a wonderful piece of music - I chose it for my Mum’s funeral entrance, and Vaughan Williams’ ‘Lark ascending’ at the end.

Sorry for your loss, OP.

Oh I love the Moon River suggestion

AhBiscuits · 26/06/2024 14:00

We had Love Changes Everything by Michael Ball at my mum's funeral. It was one of her favourites, but it was quite moving at the time anyway. It's a powerful song.

Meant to add Hansel’s “ Eternal Source of Light Divine “ , which was the entrance music for the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
There are some beautiful suggestions on this thread , OP - ultimately , whatever you choose will be the right one , because it will be a remembrance of your Mum .

If you want a piece of music to reflect your mums love of musicals then, I’d think about which were her favourites.

the sound of music 🎵 so long farewell
fiddler on the roof sunrise sunset

Thanks for the memories

Smile is a beautiful Nat King Cole song

RebelMoon · 26/06/2024 14:24

Emile Sande's version of Abide With Me

Sorry about your darling Mum . They really are irreplaceable.
We had I dreamed a dream from Les Mis for my lovely Mum.
We felt it was respectful and she loved Les Mis .

Sorry for your loss

Have your parents got a favourite song that reminds you of them. Listen to tracks your hearing around you as one will stand out.

I was fortunate enough to have asked my dad questions relating to music so we used one from the list. When we were struggling for music to exit to, as I jumped in the car a track came on the radio that reflected a saying my dad would say so we went with that.

We had Matt Munroe Softly As I Leave You for my mum.
Sorry for your loss xxx

@meimei80 YES! beautiful, delicate and uplifting. Probably my favourite piece of music
Or Mozart's Ave Verum Corpus - more sombre.

Words · 26/06/2024 15:06

Or yes - Lark Ascending. Stunning

WetBandits · 26/06/2024 15:07

We chose my Dad and Stepmum’s first dance song as the entry music for his funeral. Did they have one at their wedding?

Or if she liked musicals, an instrumental of Somewhere Over The Rainbow?

TitusMoan · 26/06/2024 15:08

Entrance music really shouldn’t have lyrics. It sounds all wrong.

Katherineryan1986 · 26/06/2024 15:13

Thank you all so much. I will have a listen to all of these suggestion.

Unfortunately my dad has no suggestions, he just can’t think straight at the moment, and they never talked about what they wanted at their funerals as the thought they would live forever ❤️

We had a instrumental of Songbird for my mum
The other two we used were 2 artists she loved
Rod Stewart - have I told you lately
Elton John - your song

With respect, that’s just your opinion. We had the full, unedited song with lyrics at my Dad’s funeral and it was perfect. It’s quite hurtful to read that someone else thinks it’s ‘wrong’.

Entrance music can be entirely whatever the family would like it to be, lyrics or instrumental, there are no rules so neither can be ‘wrong’.

We only had lyrics no music 😂

can you explain why it sounded wrong?

jay55 · 26/06/2024 15:54

I think some of the Bridgerton covers are very good for funerals, familiar but weighty due to the orchestrations and no lyrics.

We used flight to neverland from Hook for one funeral as they had loved children's books.

Maybe the overture from a musical she loved would work. A music only climb every mountain is strong but not too upbeat.

ScrummyDiva2 · 26/06/2024 16:22

This is beautiful. Jealous of the angels by Donna Taggart.
