Help with funeral music please

My Mum’s funeral is soon as we are struggling to find a nice piece of music to be played as people enter the crematorium.
Mum and Dad weren't particularly ‘into’ popular music. they liked shows and musicals, but we don’t want something upbeat for the entry music. Mum was 84.
Any suggestions please?

So sorry for your loss. I struggled with some of my mums funeral music, we were told that 4 was appropriate. I was happy with 2 of them but in hindsight i wish we had asked for Smile by Nat King Cole. I completely forgot it existed until I heard it about a week after the service

‘Ave Maria’, Schubert. Although I don't think it's actually called that, we had that played that at the beginning of my Mum's funeral as we entered the crematorium. My Mum was a baptised Catholic but fell out with the church years ago so religion didn't really come into it. We chose it because it is beautiful - I don't think she would have minded.

So sorry for your loss. We had 'The Lark Ascending' as the entry music for my dad.

My dad really enjoyed animal programmes - so we used music from David attenburghs earth series throughout the service.

maybe there is a series or film or particular director they enjoy.
Maybe that can be a starting point.

We had Smile by Nat King Cole as the entry music. It's nice but not too sad

Did she like, for example, the Vicar of Dibley? The music is the Lord's My Shepherd but a nicer melody than the hymn we all sang at school. My auntie loved the music from Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy which is "Nunc Dimitis" - a beautiful piece and very appropriate for a funeral. Or "Sunrise, sunset" from Fiddler on the Roof, maybe? Condolences on your loss.

It was once suggested to us by a vicar that entry music for a (traditional) funeral should not have any lyrics. This is because the vicar is speaking as the coffin is brought into the church/crematorium. So the music is effectively background only.
Elgar's "Nimrod" is popular, but does work well at funerals.
"The Lark Ascending" is another excellent choice.
I think if you stick with popular classical music, you can't go wrong. TV themes, show tunes, pop songs etc will very much "divide the room", and possibly make you wince in years to come.

Did they like Big Band Music - we played Moonlight Serenade by the Glen Miller Orchestra at the funeral of my grandma. It's a lovely melody and neither overly happy or sad and straddles the bridge between pop music and classical.

Most music is available in different arrangements, have you seen bridgerton for example. What was her Dave music tgen look for different versions x

Songbird - Fleetwood Mac would be lovely I think.

I agree that classical is good - perhaps Air on a G String (Bach) or Morning Mood (Grieg)

We played Judy Collins version of the Beatles classic “ In My Life “ for my mum’s funeral.

Take him home (from Les Mis the Alfie Boe version)

It was a lovely mix.
