Have you swapped your trainer liners for ankle socks?

Apparently this is now really uncool, and a huge giveaway of my enormously old age.

Trainer liners are awful. V uncool.

I’ve barely retired my skinny black jeans (even in this heat), but the socks seem an easier transition to help me stay ‘in touch’.

Thoughts?

But what about tan lines? If you wear ankle socks you will end up with white ankles which will look horrible with flip flops, in togs, etc?

Is it ankle socks that are fashionable now? I thought it was crew socks?
To me, ankle socks are barely visible above an trainer, crew socks come halfway up your shin.

I thought ankle socks were the sign of being a (shock horror) unfashionable millennial compared to a fashionable Gen Z in a longer pair.

Are you in the US? I think that's an American usage.

I’ve been wearing white sports socks for years! I joke the I started the trend 😂. Even DH has taken the plunge after I told him that his horrible Love Island style half socks give me the ick!

I love an ankle sock, always worn them. Never worn trainer liners.

JohnnySoda · 24/06/2024 17:24

Socks that stop at your ankles aren't good enough to be current.

They must be pulled up halfway up your calves like previous posters have said.

Which is obviously the most unflattering length, unless you've got legs as long and skinny as a supermodel! But I guess that's the point...

What are ‘millennial socks’ and are they really a crime against fashion?

Jennifer Lawrence is being called ‘brave’ for stepping out in these ankle-length garments – seemingly a low blow for crew sock-wearing gen Z

I wear ankle socks have been for a while now crew socks and also lettuce edge ones are quiet flattering with sandals !!
I don’t think trainer socks have been in style for around 2 years 😂
So uncomfortable as well !!

OptimismvsRealism · 24/06/2024 17:30

Ankle socks = shoplifter chic

Sorry but it's the children who are wrong

Trainer liners have always annoyingly slipped off my heels or let grit in.

I still lament the passing of slouch socks Grin

I had a bad situation a few years ago with socks constantly falling down on my feet. It didn't matter what style of socks, they all slipped of my foot.

I was on a knitting forum and there was a discussion about knitting socks. So I wrote on it saying that I don't knit socks but I knit other garnments. I explained my foot and sock situation and explained that if handknit socks would solve the problem I would learn. A person replied to me and explained the reason your socks fall down is because they are likely too small for your foot.

From that point onwards I bought men's trainer socks in size 7 to 11 and I never had a problem with socks falling down since then. I buy men's trainer socks because they fit me the best.

Primark, Tu and George all have men's socks in two sizes... M&S has them in three!

A quick Google shows that M&S does women's in two sizes, which is something, at least.

Thanks, I'll have a look.

Daffodilsugar · 24/06/2024 17:31

I never wear socks of any type. Ever.
Disgusting sweaty foot condoms.
Yuk.
I just wash my feet and occasionally my trainers.

ShiftySquirrel · 24/06/2024 17:36

I wore a loose black midaxi T shirt dress at the weekend, with some pretend Birkenstock style sandals. It was chilly so I had a cardigan on and some ankle socks.

In my head I looked down with the yoof... In reality I looked like a nun on holiday 😆.

I am neither a nun, nor on holiday, it's not a look I wish to channel again unless I take holy orders!

impressivelycunty · 24/06/2024 17:38

I'm never wearing ankle socks but these are a gift from god for those battling with trainer socks/ liners. Behold Muji right angle trainer socks in men's and women's sizes. You can thank me later!

WoollyHeadedMammoth · 24/06/2024 18:23

It's a false dichotomy; they are different items of clothing that typically serve different purposes. Saying that one must replace the other is like saying that maillots have replaced bikinis or that everyone is now wearing Chelsea boots instead of sandals or that pendants are out and earrings are in. It may be an unfair generalization, but never rely the Chinese government for fashion advice - this is the institution that brought us T-shirts with an image of Michael Jackson emblazoned with the word CELIBATE! and Playboy bunny branded clothing for toddlers. Ditto pre-teen would-be style dictators; they lack historicity.

Who dictates all these trends? I can't keep up!

Who cares 😂 I didn't give a monkeys when I was young, let alone now.

xxSideshowAuntSallyxx · 25/06/2024 08:49

No because I'd look a bit odd with rolled up jeans and ankle socks.

Even my gym leggings stop before my ankles so would look daft with ankle socks.

I'm also not 10 years old.

Don't your feet get sweaty anyway? Socks can absorb sweat.

Delatron · 25/06/2024 16:22

I have great ankles so this trend really annoys me! They are the best part of my body (the rest is going to shit!) - these trends are a conspiracy and only the young can get away with them. Let’s be honest.

Bansheed · 25/06/2024 16:27

Ha! I made the plunge today and bought ankle socks, after reading S&B

AlpineMuesli · 25/06/2024 17:28

It’s a cute look.
