And how often do you take painkillers?

I'm in pain daily, but today is the first time I've taken painkillers (this week), which got me wondering...

Every day,I take pain meds every day throughout the day usually and I'm on multiple meds, can be upto 30 tablets a day(obviously not all pain meds)when it's a really bad pain day I'll use my tens machine, heat pads and deep heat as well.

You get heatstroke once or twice a year?? Surely that's something you get once or possibly twice in your life and learn from it?

I get heatstroke once or twice a year, I do my best to mitigate it with drinking water, seeking shade etc but there is always a day or two that catches me out.
When we get the temperature change (like the one due this coming week) I will have a couple of days of fainting

spikeandbuffy · 20/06/2024 22:01

Daily. I take dihydrocodiene every night for my back (cauda equina)
Then period week I start mefanamic acid before my period and add oramorph while I'm on my period alongside paracetamol
Once a week I do an injection that gives me flu symptoms so paracetamol for that for 48hrs

More or less all the time. Chronic back pain and rheumatoid arthritis. I take a couple of painkillers most days at some point, it doesn't totally blot out the pain but I'm not keen to take too many seeing as it's chronic.

Scoliosis, arthritis in that area I take 2 Gabapentin a day to function. Will add ibuprofen because of my arthritic hip if the pain causes my leg to give way and I'm going out somewhere .

totallyfedup · 20/06/2024 22:03

Like others everyday if I didn’t take painkillers I wouldn’t be able to get out of bed, go to work, function really. I don’t want to take them but that’s the reality and it is upsetting when people say “oh I don’t take as much as a paracetamol (looking at you SIL)” in that judgy way. I have fibromyalgia and am in constant pain it’s horrendous and if it wasn’t for my children I would seriously thinking about ending it as it’s no way to live. Lying in bed night after night unable to sleep knowing you are going to be exhausted and in pain the next day.

ApolloandDaphne · 20/06/2024 22:03

Naproxen every morning and paracetamol when I need it for joint pain.

PoopingAllTheWay · 20/06/2024 22:05

Every damn day

Never take pain killers - My kidneys are failing and iv got to be super careful even if i have an infection with antibiotics

Q124 · 20/06/2024 22:06

I ache from the gym sometimes. The only time I've taken a paracetamol is when I was in labour 14 years ago.

Reallytwoappointmentsinoneday · 20/06/2024 22:08

A relative is in a lot of pain in their legs due to an ongoing cancer.

they got a tens machine and have found it really helps.

Wizardcalledoz · 20/06/2024 22:08

Most days I have pain, sometimes a dull bloated throbbing pain feeling, sometimes sharp pains. I take pain relief most weeks but not all. I used to feel lucky if I managed 2/3 days without codeine so Im very thankful Im now at this point

RosesAndHellebores · 20/06/2024 22:09

Pain is mysterious.

I have walked on a broken ankle
Never had a period pain
An occasional migraine in my teens that hurt like hell
Have two collapsed vertebrae in my spine (L1 and T12) - severe osteoporosis
A couple of bulging discs lower down which have flared twice but I've managed to get to work
I have no recollection of Contractions that were painful (had epidurals due to fear/complications)
Very rarely do I take a painkiller.

Breastfeeding, infective mastitis and a breast abscess were however excrutiating.

Much more research needs to be carried out in relation to pain and how and why it is felt.

24/7

NoWordForFluffy · 20/06/2024 22:10

Low level pain and discomfort almost constantly. I have carpal tunnel syndrome which gives me persistent issues, particularly during the working week when I'm using the mouse / keyboard.

I also have degeneration in my neck and right shoulder which get sore / achey. Plus I injured my knee the other week, and that also hurts!

Other than that, I'm perfectly fine! 🙈🤣

I rarely take painkillers though, as it's low level pain, not something I'd take painkillers for.

Mrsjayy · 20/06/2024 22:10

I have chronic pain so it's underlying some days I take all my painkillers some days I take less just depending what I have to do, today was a sore day so.im in bed having taken as much as I can.

From the Gym .. Wow! 😳

Loafbeginsat60 · 20/06/2024 22:14

I probably have headache more days than not. Take painkillers half the time.

Then it's either my neck or my back giving me pain. Today I must have a trapped nerve in my neck and it's agony. So I've taken quite a few pills!

Moon30 · 20/06/2024 22:14

I have chronic pain so i take painkillers daily. I don't particularly like taking them so often but no other choice really.

spikeandbuffy · 20/06/2024 22:21

I'm a redhead too so painkillers aren't always effective
Dry socket barely hurt, badly broken ankle I walked on for a week. Yet my endo pain is unbearable

SharonEllis · 20/06/2024 22:21

All the time - joints, muscles etc. Never take painkillers except for occasional headaches.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 20/06/2024 22:22

Very rarely. I don't even get headaches.

butterfly0404 · 20/06/2024 22:23

Everyday and have been for many years, mainly due to osteoarthritis and tendinitis. I am allergic to codeine and naproxen causes severe gastritis so I can only really take paracetamol which is pointless and does nothing.

bozzabollix · 20/06/2024 22:23

Barely ever. Reading the many posts I realise I’m very lucky. Last time I took painkillers was during Covid a few weeks ago. Might have the odd twinge from my knee but that’s me overextending it.

IMustDoMoreExercise · 20/06/2024 22:26

Before my periods stopped I used to take paracetamol once a month for period pains.

Now I get indigestion every few weeks but don't take anything for it.

GoosieLucie · 20/06/2024 22:26

I get a little discomfort from time to time (feeling it now in my lower back and left shoulder) with various issues, but I wouldn't describe it as "pain" in that it doesn't stop me doing what I want to do and I don't need to take painkillers.

Looking at the responses here, I feel very lucky indeed. It must be awful being in severe pain on a daily basis.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 20/06/2024 22:29

I get headaches about once a month that I take cocodomol for otherwise I can't function.

Period pain monthly that requires paracetamol.

This week I've had period type pains all week even though I'm not on my period 😒 and needed paracetamol a few times as it was bothering me.
