How often are you in pain?

And how often do you take painkillers?

I'm in pain daily, but today is the first time I've taken painkillers (this week), which got me wondering...

every day I can't function without them. due to chronic daily migraine, bulging discs in my neck and back, dodgy knee and arthritis

Hatty65 · 20/06/2024 21:23

Everyday. But it's fairly low level and I rarely take painkillers. It is joint pain, chronic fatigue aches and arthritis.

DH has severe pain almost constantly and also rarely takes painkillers. He has oromorph and tramadol on repeat prescription, so his condition is serious. He tries to only take painkillers when he's in absolute agony for fear, as others have said, that if he took them constantly then he will need higher and higher doses for them to work.

All day every day

I take cocodamol pretty much every day. Usually 2-4 but sometimes more.

In pain daily but I don't take meds daily.

It's mostly just aches and pains in ankles and knees and heels.

If I want to go for a long walk I take ibuprofen half hour before I leave and paracetamol 2 hours later.

Genuinely, do some women not need to take them for periods?

I’ve got a list of gynae conditions but just assumed it was standard to take all the drugs for at least a few days a month…

I've never needed painkillers (or a hot water bottle or any other remedy) for period pains. Occasional mild discomfort at most.

CheshireCat1 · 20/06/2024 21:28

I’m in pain most days, I have rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis, I very rarely take painkillers. I do take biologics and DMARDs though.

BingoMarieHeeler · 20/06/2024 21:28

All the time but rarely take pain killers so it must be low level. I have a connective tissue disease. Sometimes it’s awful but generally day to day it’s ignorable.

RuthW · 20/06/2024 21:29

In pain and everyday with my joints.

Painkillers once a twice a week.

lovehisDobbyears · 20/06/2024 21:31

Never really and I currently have a broken ankle. I actually feel like I have a low pain threshold, too - I had epidurals for both labours to prevent the pain.

Laiste · 20/06/2024 21:36

So sorry to read so many are in pain so often Flowers

Pillowfights · 20/06/2024 21:37

Am sorry so many of you are experiencing a high & constant level of pain; it must be exhausting.

I have a shoulder injury which is thankfully on the mend; I only took painkillers when the pain became unbearable; likewise with my near constant joint pain. Didn't want to become reliant on them nor my body get used to them so they ceased to
work.

Headaches are a different matter, will pop a paracetamol fairly quickly! Luckily I don't get headaches too often.

Whooper · 20/06/2024 21:39

Daily. I don't take pain relief.

LemonCitron · 20/06/2024 21:41

Rarely. I take painkillers maybe a couple of times a year.

SallyWD · 20/06/2024 21:41

I'd say a few times a month - could be headache, back ache, period pain. I suppose I take painkillers a couple of times a month.

MiddleAgedDread · 20/06/2024 21:41

Daily
i have a nerve pain issue as a result of surgery. Don’t take painkillers for it as everything I tried didn’t work or the side effects were worse than the pain.
also have ongoing sciatica and regular muscle pain from exercise which is apparently meant to be good for us

AuntieMarys · 20/06/2024 21:42

Never. I'm 66 and nothing wrong with me.
Last time I was in pain was after my gall bladder removal 3 years ago..that's the last time I took pain relief

CMOTDibbler · 20/06/2024 21:43

Always, for the last 14 years. I don't take anything for that as its nerve pain and nothing really works. If the bony pain (from the same injury) gets really bad I take something, but mostly I just have to live with it all

Octavia64 · 20/06/2024 21:43

In pain all the time. I was in an accident ten years ago. I use a wheelchair.

I take long lasting pain relief every 24 hours and top up as needed.

EverythingYouDoIsaBalloon · 20/06/2024 21:53

More or less all the time. Chronic back pain and rheumatoid arthritis. I take a couple of painkillers most days at some point, it doesn't totally blot out the pain but I'm not keen to take too many seeing as it's chronic.

weegiemum · 20/06/2024 21:55

Every day.

I have a rare neurological disability which causes pain in hands/feet and legs/arms. I take amitryptaline and pregablin and they work pretty well. Neither are addictive and I've been stable on my dose for 8 years.

CrushingOnRubies · 20/06/2024 21:55

At least 2/3 days a month depending

Headaches
Periods
Bad back pain

Normallynumb · 20/06/2024 21:57

Daily. I have Cerebral Palsy which has deteriorated over time so
Muscle bone joint and nerve pain

Dinosaumug · 20/06/2024 21:57

MissionaryMumtoOne · 20/06/2024 21:05

2 days a month for my period I’m in extreme pain and take prescribed painkillers. Yet they still won’t diagnose endo and keep fobbing me off.
the rest of the time, hardly ever. Only get a headache if I get heatstroke maybe once or twice a year.

You get heatstroke once or twice a year?? Surely that's something you get once or possibly twice in your life and learn from it?

ALovelyCupOfNameChange · 20/06/2024 21:58

Nothing diagnosed
headaches 3 out of 7 days a week. Migraines at least twice a month, these last for 3-4 days
take painkillers for most of that, help sometimes don’t most.
